So, let's view this from a different perspective - the western media were able to follow events from an official point of view on the channel. They could stream live speeches translated into English by Khamenei - so doesn't that add to their coverage by providing the balance that they need when adding it to the citizen journalism they also were able to broadcast? This point has been totally overlooked in this debate.
Perhaps if Iran hadn't been subjugated to such isolation this channel would not have been launched - the fact that it even exists displays a level of progressiveness in the Iranian conscious. Surely that is a voice that needs to be heard? All media has its cultural and own impartial view given the topic and origin.
And.. And as in most media organisations the websites and their staff are not integrated into the output of broadcast. So the web doesn't always reflect the broadcast material. This type of debate about who is better than who in the media is counter productive. Press TV does give a voice to a host of issues not only Iranian.
To add: Look at the coverage on BBC and Aljazeera since the Urumqi riots, they publish updates on the riots by leading with the Chinese government line, which is actually probably more of a Reuters line (on the websites). There is no background to the oppression that has existed in that region for decades. But when it comes to covering Tibet, it's all over the leads - is that because the Dali Lama is a sexier headline?
The fact that some one from Press TV agreed to join this programme speaks for itself. The fact that those interviewing him or commenting were speaking to perhaps the wrong person at the channel exposes the lack of background the researcher did in preparing this show. The fact that Press TV reports the official line is to be expected isn't it? As other channels also report the official line, and then chose not depending on the content.

This very segment is, in and of itself, ideologically driven; as, almost certainly, was the decision of Ofcom to attack Press TV.

This segment is, unfortunately, based entirely upon a false premise. The premise being that Press TV provides biased news coverage, meanwhile every other news organisation broadcasting either in or into the UK is, if I am to use Fox News newspeak, 'Fair and Balanced'.
The coverage offered by Press TV is, of course, subject to bias. But the very notion that this makes Press TV unique is absurd.

So, let's view this from a different perspective - the western media were able to follow events from an official point of view on the channel. They could stream live speeches translated into English by Khamenei - so doesn't that add to their coverage by providing the balance that they need when adding it to the citizen journalism they also were able to broadcast? This point has been totally overlooked in this debate.

To add: Look at the coverage on BBC and Aljazeera since the Urumqi riots, they publish updates on the riots by leading with the Chinese government line, which is actually probably more of a Reuters line (on the websites). There is no background to the oppression that has existed in that region for decades. But when it comes to covering Tibet, it's all over the leads - is that because the Dali Lama is a sexier headline?

The fact that some one from Press TV agreed to join this programme speaks for itself. The fact that those interviewing him or commenting were speaking to perhaps the wrong person at the channel exposes the lack of background the researcher did in preparing this show. The fact that Press TV reports the official line is to be expected isn't it? As other channels also report the official line, and then chose not depending on the content.

I'm sitting in a chair in Montana trying to understand all this. Press TV is a part of BBC? It's funded by the Iran government? This man seems to talk in circles and makes no sense. He reminds me of a high politician I asked a simple question of. I stood there, smiling as he smiled at me as he talked. mahmodakurd- the BBC is far from perfect but it is often critical of the British government. The Gaza issue was controversial but that was not a case of siding with Israel. Mark Regev was grilled by BBC journalists on those events.

The BBC were willing to report from Isreal showing Isreali footage during their war on Gaza and even though both sky and the BBC were offered live footage from Aljazeera and Press TV they declined so to my amazement when the supreme leader of Iran made his recent speach Sky showed the live footage with Press TV interpreter The BBC does not show or report anything that puts Isreal in a bad light. the BBC are in the pockets of Fox and sky are in the pockets of CBS

The issue is government controlling by the Supreme leader, the funding issue only matters if the controlling occurs. Since the BBC is not government controlled the funding issue is irrevelant. And the BBC is funded by tax-payers actually!
