  • I understand that Sullivan wrote this after the death of his brother

  • A MOST WONDERFUL VOICE THAT NEVER FAILS TO TOUCH THE HEART. ONCE COULD NEVER TIRE OF IT.

  • What a wonderful recording and what an outstanding singer Webster Booth was.It is sad that he seems to have been neglected and largely forgotten for many years.I really hope that there will soon be a revival of interest in his work and that he will receive the credit and acclaim which he is surely due.Thank you so much for posting this superb version of a great song.

  • Wonderful in every way.

  • what a voice

  • Indeed, Webster Booth has done something very special with this song. He really touches the spirit of this song. He sings it beautifully, sensitive but without any false pathos. Really a top artist. I'm very happy that his voice comes to us so clearly and convincingly in a recording that was made a lifetime ago.

  • Stupendous!

  • This song struck the heart of A very lonely child. I only heard it. A few times but I have spent my life looking for The Lost Cord. I thought youtube would have it when I first heard of youtube. It didn't. I was still seeking The Lost Cord. Then Today because of a death I looked again. This was the rendition that touches the Lost Cord the best

  • Booth was a boy chorister at Lincoln Cathedral, and had a thorough musical training. He never quite transcends the 'English Choral Tradition' sound, and has a slightly nasal quality. But his top notes are firm and true. Any performance of Elijah or Messiah in which he sang would have been well worth hearing.

  • Not quite up to the Caruso and Gigli renditions. A better organ performance would have made a big difference.

  • Wonderful!! Wish he were here today, I would would ask him to sing with me. Then I would think that I had died and gone to heaven. :)

  • This guy is beautiful. Thank you.

  • Such a beautiful and haunting song....It sounds like a song that would be played at a funeral.

  • Not quite up there in terms of lyricality and purity of tone as Mc Cormack. Can't imagine Booth setting the standard, as a tenore di grazie in the same way.

  • One of may favourite Singers of all-time. BEAUTIFUL! I love that man! Had such a 'gentle' voice and this Song is a fine example of that - without losing any 'masculinity' - a difficult combination to achieve. Lovely! Thanks for Posting.

  • Wonderful, what a full rich voice

  • I have just herd McCormack version of this and quit frankly websters voice puts him to shame

  • this man was one of my mothers boyfriends

  • Just so beautiful. Thanks. Good tenor.

  • A lovely voice! Very good expression! TY!

  • A performance as good as McCormack! TY.

  • Webster rocks

  • My parents used to have a 78 of this song (not by Webster Booth) which I loved to play. He has a wonderful voice and does this song full justice.

  • what a lovely voice. I remember hearing him on radio in WW11 with Ann Ziegler.

  • Ann Ziegler & Webster Booth. Another ,probably the best dueteists of all time They bought us thro' the second world war
