This is probably one of the very earliest performances by a major artist to feature the Fender Precision Bass. I believe that the bassist was Monk Montgomery, whose brother was the legendary guitarist Wes Montgomery.
At the time (early 1950's), the electric bass was known as the "Fender bass," regardless of which company (i.e., Gibson or Kay) manufactired it.
Many bassists hated it and purists considered it a "bastard instrument."
Lionel Hampton reportedly loved it loud and would turn up.
