  • @sootch00 What if you are flying international. And you are also a tourist??

  • Don't try to come to California. They will fry you on the 6 o'clock news. We are a bunch of unAmerican communists here

  • Good vid.

  • You wont BELIEVE some of the Micky Mouse cases I have seen come back to us to be Screened. Ive seen card board boxes, cases missing a hinge or not enough locks and anyone could reach inside and remove items from the case. We of course send them back out to the passenger.Ive seen them run out to the gun store near our airport, buy a case & locks and come back.

we xray your gun case so we can see whats inside. I can even tell if its LOADED or not:) Glad it was a good visit for you .... Herb

  • we xray your gun case so we can see whats inside. I can even tell if its LOADED or not:) Glad it was a good visit for you .... Herb

  • Lucky you my friend. In New York it's hell. God forbid you need to take a connecting flight through New Jersey. So many horror stories. I wish I lived out west or in a more free state. I hate New York, I love my AR-15 though, lol

  • I have that same case

  • Very Nice!? Restricting your liberties is NOT Very Nice.

  • why so many guns going to war pal

  • @MultiAngryRussian You can never have to many guns.

  • @audiservice2 I travel overseas for hunting with my guns and I use a Pelican case the only 2 complaints I have is, after the flight the latches are almost impossible to open and Pelican doesnt make a lock for that cases, the one's they make are small

  • Ive come home to bags with the lock cut off

  • is the airport in the beginning RDU?

  • what about airsoft guns? do i need to fill out papers as it was a real gun or just put in my checked baggage?

  • check-out Open carry.org-- it,s a very concise site, I think you can get any and all the firearm info you.ll need right here

  • Great information. I am surprised that a lock on the trigger is not required. Thank you for the insight.

  • Very informative sootch00. Thanks for sharing that bit of info. How you packaged you firearms and ammo was one of the things that I was wondering about when you mentioned you flew out to the TNP shoot. Keep up the good work.

  • What kind of holster did you have for your mk2? I'd like to get one for my mk1 target. Thanks for the vids!

  • Sootch00, would you mind disclosing the airlines you used for a data point? I plan to use Delta in about a week and will likely post up a video response when all is said and done.

  • @sootch00

Delta was fine. Charged me $25 per, just like normal checked items (4people/4bags). TSA at SJC in CA was a bit weird. They don't allow you to be present while they inspect your cases. That part kind of freaks me out since I was traveling with about $2K in firearms (rifle, shotgun, 5 handguns) and had no way to verify they had re-locked the cases correctly. Honestly it sounds like they cared more about checking for explosive residue than if the firearms were loaded or not.

  • to travel with a firearm do you need any type of license like ccw or anything like that ???????

  • @audiservice2 just use a pelican case

  • i have a question, does the tsa require that you disasemble your rifle? or did you do that for space purposes?

  • @johnnye222 no

  • @audiservice2 I am in total agreement!

  • Great vid Sootch!! The whole experience seemed to be a positive one.

  • 12 pounds is enough to blow up a plan so only 11....

  • @jsh1284 whats wrong with airsoft

  • I have to get one of those Law books ASAP, But I'm Heading to Utah (Nebraska) in 2 weeks, you had handguns in your case when you traveled. Did you need gun license to carry there. I was planning on shooting with a friend and wanted to bring my LCP and SR9. I understand and watched video. But tips for laws on the ground. Thanks Again !!!!!!!!!!!! Also I will be staying about 15 Minutes From Cabelas :-)

  • does this apply to all airlines or just that one

  • Your luckier than the Isreali Security Team who had their Glock Pistols stolen.

  • so he never gave them away for the contest but handed them out to you guys at the all star gathering?

  • you would have such a hard time getting away with that in New Jersey

  • One final thing.....lol. Airline agents make this mistake all the time. The firearm declaration tag goes INSIDE the pistol/rifle case. NOT outside case and especially NOT on outer luggage case. If you get a pissy no it all airline agent who demands otherwise, ask for a supervisor and/or TSA.

  • Thats another thing. I see people mistakingly putting TSA locks on the firearm box. NO!!!! Do not put a TSA on the firearm box!!! Get your own lock, either key or combo lock. NO ONE, even TSA, should have access to your gun. If TSA needs to recheck, they need to get you to unlock the firearms case!

  • I will offer this little tip. If the lock box your putting your firearm in has more than one locking point(for padlock), put a lock on each locking point.

I was traveling with a small box with one pistol in it. The case had two locations for locks, but I had only one lock on it. The Airline agent called TSA over and TSA said each locking point must have a lock on it. It was not a problem, I just bought another lock at one of the airport stores.

  • @audiservice2 Good Advise my friend. Better to keep a low profile. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 Its pretty pathetic that even at a highly secure installation like an airport firearms can go missing. The TSA is a joke, Walmart greeters with badges. Thanks for the info sootch!

  • @sootch00 thanks for the vid. Built my dad a long awaited surprise (Ar15) solved a few of my flight questions,

  • @jsh1284 That guy is a total tool. He came on my channel and spammed negative comments as well. Way to put him in his place dude.

  • this is a very intelligent video

  • I aways wanted to carry my gun on a plane... I even called the airport, & ask them what i needed to do... I never had the balls to do it... I DO NOW... What a great vid... 5 stars...

  • What brand of case is that?

  • Awesome Sootch.. Thanks for the info.

  • I flew to California a couple of times with handguns and WITH high cap magazines for the Steel Challenge. It was quite easy and eventless with pretty much the experience Sooch had. Only rule was I could NOT sell my high cap mags in California. Also with ammo, as in my case I needed more ammo for the match than I could fly with. You can always ship your ammo to your destination if you have to. I shipped to the hotel but made arrangements first so they knew it was coming.

  • yeah im in ncarolina we have some strange laws

  • duuuuuuuuuude! it's like you looked into the future and read my mind! i just finished watching the allstar vid by Nutn and started thinking that you prob flew there. I've always wondered what the procedure was on flying with rifles.

  • New subscriber but long time TNP fan. Keep up the great work. I heard from one of my shooting buds that he had issues with the New York Port Authority. He went to a competition in NY and followed the TSA and the Airlines regulations. Had no problems going to NY, but when he went to leave, NY Port Authority seized his firearms stating that he could not transport across Stateline. It cost him $1000’s of dollars in lawyer fees to get his guns back from them. Just something to keep in mind.

  • Good info, Sootch. I was always concerned that the baggage handlers may help themselves to my handgun. Nice to know that's not the case.

  • So long as it's in checked luggage, and your following the rules, the TSA isn't going to care.

You will run into employees that are unsure of procedure so it would be a VERY good idea to goto the airlines website and the TSA website and PRINT OUT the rules and regulations regarding carrying firearms and have them with you to show to the employees if something comes up.

These days everyone is worried about losing their jobs so having the official regs with you will only help you.

  • I realize that the book cannot address all firearms laws, however it leaves out some major issues which would apply to travelers. For example: restaurant laws. Everyone I know who travels relies on restaurants at some point during their journey. The book simply does not cover this or similar issues. What the book DOES address are state-by-state legal issues transporting a firearm in your/a vehicle. So it's really more of a "Laws About Transporting Firearms in the 50 states"....

  • Hmm, suprised how much gear that case takes. Excellent!

  • Been waiting on this video... Fascinating info!

  • @FirearmsARTechnition I think you are confusing movies with real life. Passengers simply do not have access to baggage areas of airplanes; there are no "secret passageways" between the cabin and the baggage.

BTW if you really want to sound like a player perhaps you might trouble yourself to learn the correct spelling of "technician".

  • As always, great video.

  • Inaccurate info. TSA is allowed to open your case at any time at their discretion. They can ask for your key if you have it. However, if they want to bolt cut off your locks, they can. It's best to get a TSA-approved lock so that they have a master key and they won't cut off the lock. This is not limited to guns but anything, especially electronic equipment. I bet they may have rifled your case during loading at one point and that's why the latches were opened.

  • TSA has the information on there website. And I prefer Basspro but I'll go to either.

  • Great tips sootch00! I'm heading down for a hunting trip with family in VA in Nov and was thinking of bringing my gun...but wasn't too sure about it. This has helped ease my mind a bit.

    Thanks!

  • Hey Sootch, one thing to bare in mind is that some airlines require the metal type of storage boxes for the firearm, plastic ones are too easily broken into. I think Delta or United are like that. So it's wise to check with your carrier before getting to the airport.

  • hhmmmm...."Standby"....? another brother in aviation?

  • Sootch, this is pretty unrelated, but do you know of any places in the SC/NC/GA area where you could do a tactical run-and-gun sorta thing like the sledgehammer? I'm trying to find somewhere to do stuff like that, but this area of the country isn't as easy to find super-secluded areas. Thanks for the vid, too - I've been wondering about this stuff for a little while!

  • @jsh1284 this is the internet crackhead i dont have to do correct punctuation unless im doing an essay paper so shut up your annoying

  • Top secret? Let me guess Utah. Cabala's in Lehi for one.

  • @jsh1284 @FirearmsARTechnition you seem to be the retarded one not thinking theirs many spaces in a plane and yes i may accidentally kill you you have been owned again son dont talk back i didnt say you could talk you dont have my permission to speak so SHUT UP or i may have to own you with a bullet to your monkey brain i might have to expose another gay on my channel which is you just remember you dont wanna mess with the big dogs so get on your knees and obey your master

  • @FirearmsARTechnition Was that a death threat you just made to Jish1284? I have no clue what the previous onversation was about but that's a good way to get your channel suspended quick, and in servere instances you could be charged with a crime. You would be wise to avoid speaking in such a manner.

  • @FirearmsARTechnition I would bet a lot of money that you are no older than 12.

  • If I ever fly with firearms will refer back to this video. Thanks sootch

  • Top secret . . . if I told you, I'd have to kill you! Love it Sootch!

This is a foundational video which will be helpful to many people in the future. Well done!

  • @jsh1284 i am so get it straight kid

  • Sootch, good video. I fly several times a year with pistol in my checked bags. Southwest Air is very gun friendly. It takes about an additional two minutes and at most airports you can do it at the curbside check. God bless traveling the US with a gun.

  • Once you arrive at the destination, where do you pick up the checked firearms? The baggage office or does it just show up on the carousel?

  • I didnt know you were in the SC area I am around the Anderson Greenville area myself! Is funny how all the gun laws differ from state to state. I sure hope they get them all reciprocated soon! glad you had a safe trip!

  • I have been waiting for a vid on this very subject! Thank you for taking the time out of your trip to put this together. I will be traveling to the east coast this fall for a family deer hunt and this helped remove some of my skepticism.

    Thanks again Sootch!

  • Great job Sootch! I plan on sharing a few of my experiences also. I can vouch for how polite the TSA was. Between them and the people at the ticket counter, the staff really made it easy to travel this way. I was pleasantly surprised! P.S. Thanks for the shout out for the Gun Law Travel Guide! You rock.

  • This is a really great video...

  • Hey! RDU :P They will NEVER finish that terminal...

  • i have to admit, I was wondering how you brought your stuff from the East Coast to the .... Super secret area that I wont speculate on. Thanks Sootch for posting this, you simply the process greatly!

Also had I known you were in Skyharbor, I'd have driven up to and bought you a burrito! Arizona, this is VERY gun friendly state!!!

  • @jsh1284 hey idiot its possible to get in the luggage from the passenger area there are many hidden compartments in airplanes you aparently dont know of depending on the size of the craft theres a number of spots one under the toilet and in the lil kitchen area also the pilots carry firearms with a very hard door to brake down you FAIL!!!

  • thank you very much for this video.

  • Thanks! Great video!

  • dude when is this thing gonna be uploaded im gettin ancy

  • AWESOME! *****

VERY informative. I travel to Arizona a lot and definitely can use this info. Thanks Sootch, you rock bro!

  • Flyin' LUV with a stopover in PHX, so I'd bet on to SLC :)

Thanks for the good info on TSA travel regs!

  • Great video I had no ideal how to fly with guns great info.

  • thanks sootch :)

  • how did you store the knives?

  • I dunno about TSA, but I know airport personnel handle Politicians much differently... A relative of mine used to work pre-9/11 and even then they were taking little pocket knives off of you. A Senator came through and had a gold/diamond fancy pocket knife. My relative didn't hesitate and said, "Hand it over." Everyone else was like, "Oh no D: You can't do that!". Once again, my relative didn't hesitate. She eventually took it, and the other workers told the Senator he could have it back later.

  • I haven't flown in nearly 7 years. I've just driven cross country lately.

  • Awesome vid, in NY once you get your pistol permit you can carry it concealed on your person when driving. But then again we are also restricted to ten round magazines in both pistols and rifles, boo!

  • "is that a gun?!" "yea"

    "are you going hunting"

    "You can say that.."

  • Good info Sootch.

I always get stuck by that crappy window by the engine whenever I fly too!

    ✭✭✭✭✭

  • is 'here' Nevada/Utah by any chance? lol

Good vid. When I travel, I put my locking pistol case inside of a suitcase and I've never had problems!

  • Thanks for making this vid Sootch. I had lot of questions about flying with firearms that this cleared up.

  • Sootch Great video. I have not traveled but now know that I can. The book, The Travelers Guide... is a must have in oder to leave home.

  • This was a great video, very informative! A suggestion.... a new case, the best case of all time pelican rifle case EXTREMELY SECURE and VERY TOUGH... buy one you will not be sorry, plus it has a LIFETIME WARRANTY..

  • @aj45colt Yeah, $250 was not in the budget after all other expenses for the trip. Pelican is the best.

  • One question, I thought you had to have a TSA lock on your gun case, I think its those types of locks that any TSA personel can open with a universal type key. Never flown with one, but I see you bought your own lock.

  • @chanderson1 No Chris, when you fly with a firearm it is locked and only accessible with your key. It is a great way to fly if you do not want people getting into your luggage. They have to get your key to gain entry. Very safe. check out Deviant Ollam, Packing and the friendly skies. This guy is awesome with his knowledge and experience flying with firearms and ammo. More vids Chris, you are awesome.

  • thanks sootch I didnt know you can fly with firearms without FFL license.... verr infomative

  • love the new music!!

  • @survivalstuffonline I'm going to guess he separated the upper and lower to make it easier to pack everything in there. I have to separate my upper from my lower because my rifle case isn't long enough.

  • Wow what a great video, I've always wondered about this process. Thanks dude. I guess nutn hooked you guys up with buddy passes huh?

  • Comment removed

  • @jsh1284 hey fruitcake any terrorist can bring firearms on a plane all they have to do is go in the luggage room and get their weapons during flight come back up where the passengers are then shoot them all up its that easy is the airport that stupid? im not against this at all but its dangerous

  • im glad you did a video about this.... i was very interested in how this worked

  • bear in mind that

    REGULATIONS

    are not

    LAW

thank you for your time and consideration.

  • Great video Sootch! It's a good thing to hear from someone who actually has experience. I have always wondered what it was like, read through TSA regs, but had never heard anyone's experiences.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for the info Sootch

  • Be careful if you have a stop in Chicago. There are many horror stories where people have flights cancelled while there and have to claim their weapons. Once you leave the airport you are breaking the cities laws !!!

  • @midwestiowashooter Chicago sucks (trust me, I live in downstate IL and they ruined the whole state for us). You gotta watch out for other lib hot spots too. I read an article about a guy who got charged with possession of an unlicensed handgun and hollow point ammunition. He was going under the travel protection, got delayed and due to circumstances beyond his control became a felon and got his stuff seized.

  • The Urban Shooter podcast had a great instructional on flying with guns; if I had to guess it was almost a solid hour of information; however, I forgot which episode it was.

  • Thank you for that....However one note of caution if flying in or out of JFK (atlanta,ga) airport, majority of TSA are completely incompetent in there job. They can give you a huge hassle. Good luck and God bless!

  • America is the only country in the world where you can take a firearm in your luggage. Lol.

  • Very Very good video!!! Something that I haven't seen before and really always wondered about. Solid video and great info as always. Although I live in NY and suspect that it may be a little more complicated in NY area airports.

  • o yea you have 2 be 21 to buy a striped lower in sc witch i just found out. any body know why that is

  • Nice vid. I brought my pistol to Alaska for a fishing trip last year, and I accidently put an EMPTY mag in my carry on. They only noticed it because my ipod looked odd to them. That was a 45min ordeal that resulted in me forefitting the mag to make my flight. But overall pretty easy process.

  • North Carolina to Phoenix to Nebraska! Those damn airlines and their messed up flight routes, heh.

  • I have a little Pelican case for when I travel with my XD subcompact.

  • Cool, good information for traveling. Love to find more info on driving state to state with a firearm. I'll check one steptoofar's site.

  • Ha ha my dad needs to see this. He works for a police dept and forgot he had his baby glock in his carry bag while traveling for work. whooops!!!

  • Interesting. Great info. I thought most of it was like you ended up experiencing but it's nice to hear first hand. Of course, in the fail state I live (NY) it's pretty much illegal to transport any unlicensed firearm, but most states should be fine.

  • Your in Utah, it's not really a big deal.

  • Glad you did this video!

  • TSA... thousands standing around lol. my dad works for delta and we have to fy stand by. but i like ... free air travel til 23 cant beat that.

  • @nygrappler1. Thanks..

  • This was a VERY interesting video. I have never flew with any firearm. Let me ask, do you HAVE to disassemble the firearm like your AR was? Good information. Thanks.

  • Good information. Most people don't realize that you can actually take guns on a plane. I guess it would be a helluva long drive if you wanted hunt big game in Africa.

  • here must be Utah hu? #LOL

  • Good video sootch. I wondered how that process worked. Sounds like no big deal if you follow the rules and behave respectfully. Funny how that makes things run smoother in most instances. Also kinda cool seeing you pulling up to RDU (my home airport). Did you come all the way up here to catch a flight?

  • I'd also recommend if you're going to an unfamiliar airport, to try and arrive early just in case. I've never had a major issue with flying w/ firearms, but in Detroit, they actually sent a special agent out to check my guns in. He took his sweet time comming from the back and it added about 20 minutes to my check-in time. Good thing I was early. Also, I think you said you need to lock the ammo. The ammo can actually go in an unlocked bag, just be sure to follow the rest of the ammo rules.

  • Thanks you for this video.

  • dude before i even watch this i want to say thank you. i am doing this in august and have been lazily putting off getting the info i need. this is awesome.

  • @URBANAMERICANTAC i would also like to add that the best locks to use are TSA approved locks. these locks are made so the TSA can open them with out "youre" key. this is good because you might not here them paging you if they need the case opened. if you dont respond to them looking for you then youre gun wont make it on the plane. just a heads up.

  • @URBANAMERICANTAC Yeah, I used TSA approved locks by Master on the TNP trip, worked great. I've heard that they will cut the locks off if they can't reach you.

  • Hey boss. Thanks for the video! I will be traveling with my pistol to another state for the first time. Thanks for the heads up on what to expect. I'm not as nervous haha.

  • Cool... I've been wondering about this subject.. Well done.

  • @FirearmsARTechnition I think you are confused. He said nothing about carrying it on the plane. He checked the guns as luggage ... completely legal.

  • @ZombieTactics Reminds me of the first season of Lost where Locke has this huge box of knives and they're like "wtf? how did you get that?" and he smiles "I checked it".

  • @FirearmsARTechnition Only Air Marshalls or approved LE can have a gun as Carry on, but anyone can have checked firearms. Go to the TSA or Airline Website that I listed in the description.

  • @sootch00 "Only Air Marshalls or approved LE can have a gun as Carry on" Cool So Air marshalls and the pilot can have it loaded in the plane?

  • Great detailed information and we appreciate you informing us of how you were able to travel with both your firearms, rifle and ammo. Thanks again for posting.

  • when my bro flew to vegas, he brought some guns. but, he had half of his ammo loose, my mom had to fly to the airport to pick up the loose ammo. i told him "why don't you put those shot shells in the original box?" think he listened? nope.

  • I have flown throughout the country before numerous times and had gone through the same exact scenario.....they are quite responsible about they whey they act and handle your firearms...I havent had a bad experience yet!!!!! Thanks for the vid brother...god bless!!!!

  • your now in SC, cool that's my home state, Welcome to the neighborhood!!

  • Great vid Sootch. Valuable info. I just travelled with firearms for the first time a few months ago. No problems at all. I locked everything in a Pelican case. Thanks Sootch.

  • Good to know...What about mailing Gunds or ammo...I am moving back to Alaska soon and can't take my guns through Canada. Any thoughts on that?

  • @mikeleeross You'll have to send guns to an FFL Dealer. You can't use the U.S. Postal Service but UPS or Fed-EX can handle them. Ammo shipping is only restricted by age. I heard that you could ship to your personal address without an FFL but That's just a rumor. Alaska is a serious Gun Friendly State : ) Good Luck~

  • @sootch00 thank you.. and yep Alaska is a very Gun friendly state. One of the few reasons why my family and I are moving back.

  • very interesting! I would of thought it would have been easier to ship it UPS ahead of time ( insured of coarse ) since I thought it would have been a nightmare to fly with. Good stuff Sootch!

  • Thanks Sootch. That was great info. I have never traveled with my firearm, but I have wondered what it would be like if I had too. That really helps. Looks like you had a blast at the TNP shoot. I have enjoyed all the videos posted with you and the all-stars. Peace, have a good one Sootch.

  • This is very informative. I always thought you couldn't have ANY ammunition on the plane. Thanks for the video sootch.

  • Great video Sootch, I've always wondered about this.

  • Perfectly timed! I'm traveling today and was thinking of bringing my carry sidearm in my check-in baggage...

  • Cool video! I was a supervisor for TSA after 9/11 for 4 years and I know it can be interesting.

  • @hakjason I was very impressed with the way TSA handled my cases and their attitude. Thanks for keeping us safe my friend!

  • I didnt think it would be that easy, Im surprised.

  • Good subject. Can't believe I haven't thought of posting one ;-)

  • good to know, job well done

  • 1st. :) thanks for keeping the vids coming sootch00.
