When it comes to the photos many of the ones (such as the first image you show) will have cost the photographer to make, hiring models and spending time setting up the shoot etc, while some photos taken on the fly will sell most that sell well are well thought out and planned, so these things take a lot of time.
It is also not just about the photograph, keywording and writing proper decent descriptions plays almost as big a role as does the photo. It is alos worth noting that having one or two images uploaded will not be of much use the people who make a living from this have thousands if not tens of thousands of photos on multiple sites, so this is by no means the quick money making scheme people think (I know you have not claimed it is that is just a warning).
Stock photography is NOT as easy as you make it out to be, while there are some that make big bucks there are many more who do not. And while technically the equipment used is not so important and composition does not have to have much "artistic" merit the images have to be technically perfect, well composed, and most importantly clean, so no blemishes that would be on the lens/sensor and NO digital noise (most non SLR type cameras struggle with that).

Great videos! But you are not telling something. iStock has very strict requirements. My photographer friend has only 30% of his photos accepted. I'd say newbies have no chance at all! Video is easier, the rate is like 90%. I have 700 videos up and only get $200/mo.

Even if you don't make 7700 a month, it is still another source of income for someone to use so that they don't have get on their hands and knees working for some schmuck for minimum wage. @Khamite72 Well, it very well may be exaggerated, but even if you cut the figures in half there is still good money to be had. The important thing is convey some sort of theme in the pics. Think in terms of what an advertiser might want to use to convey an emotion and call the viewer to action (buy). Also, the pics have to be great quality. Punch up the impact factor in photoshop.

I know for example web designers, graphic artist, or people that just like pictures they use those sites.I know some photographers that do this but they also have real good cameras. I think i stock also has video and flash now so if you can make videos or flash you can sell that too if your good at it.

You cann't just copy that and be the next guy who posts photos of that kind.
Because you will be trying to exploit a niche that is already oversaturated.

You said it's a good idea to know basic Photoshop. Do you think it's necessary to pay the $400 for the professional Photoshop, or the $80 dollar version sold at Costco? Or even better, something like GIMP (free)?
@Redsox82696 You will want Adobe Photoshop CS5, Photoshop Elements is worthless. Both photoshop knowledge and the knowledge of how to create a technically perfect image and sellable image are essential.

@FATKATKY RESEARCH!!!! First find out the minimum size the image banks will accept. If they won't take any images below a 5GB size then a 1GB camera won't work for you. Also, there are places yu can rent DSLRs (online & offline)
@spencernolanritz Basically, because it's easy, one stop shopping. Example: a graphic artist working on making a brochure for an advert wants an image of a martini. They just go to the image bank & search "Martini" and they get it instantly. BOOM! Why would anyone spend the time to hire a photographer when they can get the image instantly. Also, the images on the stock image banks are very high quality.

there are multiple microstock agencies that you can upload to, and it's a great idea, but be aware that you will most likely make around $.20 for small size downloads, not $1. it's also important to realize that most things you might shoot have already been shot, so it's hard to get a creative, quality image that hasn't been done before.

There are NO privacy laws regarding photography in the UK.

Great videos! But you are not telling something. iStock has very strict requirements. My photographer friend has only 30% of his photos accepted. I'd say newbies have no chance at all! Video is easier, the rate is like 90%. I have 700 videos up and only get $200/mo.
Finally, if a file sells for $10, you get $2 and they keep $8 which is outright robbery. Do you want to make someone else rich? Selling there is just like working for some greedy schmuck. Start your own stockphoto website instead!

it's not so good as you think.you need to upload an id or driving liense photo and pass an exam and then upload 3 photos for approval which will most likely NOT happen.you need to be very good to fit for them.They rejected me 4 times so gonna try to shutterstock which is the same shit actually.

This is such a coincidence, Im playing a game right now that has an economy sort of like real life. I've been making some serious cash on that game doing things out of the ordinary like this. It's so easy to make money on this game, while 99% of the other people who play it struggle.
Anyways, I always figured that it's a game, making money isnt like that at all in real life. But since watching your video, it seems that there are actually methods that can make some cash if u use your brain

@rainxxxx Yes. I actually have done most of the things I talk about. Thats how I got started in these videos. Someone asked me how I made my money & I did a video about flipping websites. I did that back in the day & it was pure gold for me. Now I am pretty much retired. I sleep in, don't have an alarm clock, I travel & generally live the slacker life. I still do some online stuff for extra cash here & there plus I go to Vegas once a month & I seem to be able to make good money there 2

@KingHuman Dude, I tried to flip websites and I SUCKED at it! So I gave up. Now, I'm just struggling to find something I can do online to make a decent living, never mind, retiring. Now, I'm doing the Fiverr thing and though I made $56 at it in a week, my lowered rating has kept more business from coming in. But, I stopped at the Fiverr site and haven't branched out or scaled it up or ramped it up at all at the other clone sites. So, I'm just twiddling my thumbs waiting on a miracle now. ;/

@HaatoSK Yeah... like anything, it takes time to make sales. You're not going to upload images and have them sell the same day. You have to look at the long term sales. Maybe look at it as a yearly amount. Remember, this is something to TRY. Maybe it will work for you & maybe it won't.

hey Kinghuman, I have been watching you for about 2 years and I must say; you know a lot of strategies of making money. I am 14 and I took business into my own hands. I make duct tape wallets and bracelets, and i am national and I am doing really well. I just applied for partnership but i don't have a good feeling of it because im not that popular on youtube. uh i don't have a digital camera but i always walk past monuments all the time tall buildings and skylines.this seems very do able but you need a very good camera.i mean you can't just pull out a cellphone and start making money. I don't care what anyone says. Even if you don't make 7700 a month, it is still another source of income for someone to use so that they don't have get on their hands and knees working for some schmuck for minimum wage. You can combine it with other tactics on here to make yourself a nice income. Not everyone is going to be good at everything. So you gotta try different things to see what works for you.

@Khamite72 Well, it very well may be exaggerated, but even if you cut the figures in half there is still good money to be had. The important thing is convey some sort of theme in the pics. Think in terms of what an advertiser might want to use to convey an emotion and call the viewer to action (buy). Also, the pics have to be great quality. Punch up the impact factor in photoshop.

lol I don't know who said that people don't make money from image banks you must of never been on one. I know for example web designers, graphic artist, or people that just like pictures they use those sites.I know some photographers that do this but they also have real good cameras. I think i stock also has video and flash now so if you can make videos or flash you can sell that too if your good at it.

More BS just to make a video? It is pretty easy to go look up the most downloaded photos in 4 years. $8,000 over 4-5 years is not shit. You are finding the most downloaded ones and using them as examples, but in reality most of the photos are not selling, or selling once in a great while. It is kinda like posting about a millionaire who won the lotto and saying you can do it too!!! But posting the billion losers, well that is not so fun.

@KingHuman the reality is that even if you are a professional photographer who uploads great, commercially-focused content, there is ZERO guarantee that you will make any money off of selling photos.
The supply is HUMONGOUS.
iStockphoto is flooded with photos of corporate guys in suits and all that business catalog shit that supposedly sells.
You cann't just copy that and be the next guy who posts photos of that kind.
Because you will be trying to exploit a niche that is already oversaturated.

@Svet69 First off, if you're looking for GUARANTEES, then being self employed isn't for you. Next, I didn't say to COPY the best selling images. I said that should lead you to your OWN IDEAS. Thirdly, if supply is huge then there is usually a good reason. It's kinda like saying not to even try to sell on ebay cuz the market is flooded. That "I give up before I start" attitude is why most people never succeed. Hey, I don't care if you do this or not. I don't make a dime if you do this.

In a very small and fucked-up country where there's virtually no market and just limitations.
I do photography, I do 3D modelling and animation, I do sound recording, I play as a session guitarist for musicians, I sell tons of crap on eBay and so on...
Believe me, I know the freelance market very, very well.
I wasn't saying that you can't make SOME cash from photos. But $7000 per month is impossible. Your example proves it.

I know what I've made with my images and I KNOW there is good money in it if it's done right. Naturally, there is an art to it just like anything else. You can scratch at a violin or you can be a concert soloist (virtuoso). There are levels to everything.

But guess what: the guy in your example has made that $7000 in 4 years, not in 1 month!
And since he is the top seller on iStock, it seems that you have not surpassed him. Which in turn means that you have never done $7000 from photos in a month.
So there's a big fallacy in your video's title.

According to the recent PDN Stock Income Survey, the average annual earnings of a microstock photographer are under $4,000." And more others are making under between $400-$800 on average. This is with around 100-400 images they've already uploaded.

The formula for making money is find something that makes money and then DO IT AGAIN & AGAIN!!!! What I see there is something with HUGE potential. Who is going to upload one image and stop??? Think in terms of 100 - 300 images on several sites and do the math. If you want to upload ONE image & make $7K a month you're in dream land brother.

Yes that is a lot of downloads but its a very long time that the photo been up. And yes I mean some of these guys have thousands of photos therefore they are making some kind of money. @FATKATKY RESEARCH!!!! First find out the minimum size the image banks will accept. If they won't take any images below a 5GB size then a 1GB camera won't work for you. Also, there are places yu can rent DSLRs (online & offline)

@spencernolanritz Basically, because it's easy, one stop shopping. Example: a graphic artist working on making a brochure for an advert wants an image of a martini. They just go to the image bank & search "Martini" and they get it instantly. BOOM! Why would anyone spend the time to hire a photographer when they can get the image instantly. Also, the images on the stock image banks are very high quality.

there are multiple microstock agencies that you can upload to, and it's a great idea, but be aware that you will most likely make around $.20 for small size downloads, not $1. it's also important to realize that most things you might shoot have already been shot, so it's hard to get a creative, quality image that hasn't been done before.

A quick piece of advice for anyone in the UK.
If you take a photo of anything or anyone, from a public area, (e.g. someone/something in their house and you are on the public footway but can see them, or someone walking down the street) you are free to use that image for any purpose and do not need to obtain permission from anyone.
There are NO privacy laws regarding photography in the UK.
Nor do you violate any aspect of Data Protection Law.
Anyone who tells you different is plain wrong.
