@joehavian a trick played upon him by Ares - Ares still saw him as not a fully fledged blood-thirsty spartan. Ares' trick ended up with Kratos killing his wife and child in a mad frenzy, their ashes covering his body (hence named the Ghost of Sparta) so all would see what he'd turned into and so for vengeance, he decides to kick the Ass of Ares :)
