I'm looking for people that can speak english, spanish or another language, and love the piano bass sound and design to manage Fender Rhodes Piano Bass page (Fender Rhodes Piano Bass on facebook). Please post it and like it.
Hi toetsenisten van Haarlem en omstreken. Ik zal mijzelf even kort voorstellen: Ik ben Gijs Beusenberg (oude drummer van o.a.
@OldBassMan I'm no musician so I can ask a dumb question: If you have synthetisers and stuff why don't you create the bass sound from scratch by yourself :) ?
@konked I can see the point. I'm interested in how the sounds we hear are produced so I know how a synth or a sampler works VCO, Filters, VCA etc :) But should it be sampled it ought to be in good condition to produce a decent sound instead of some muddy "oomph" - or rotten meat for the beef :)
are these ones still on sale these days bro?where d'you think I could get one?d'you have any suggestions.....................pls help!I looked it up online couldn't find anything on it!
Jack white uses this in "My doorbell" live at VH1 and im wondering how you get tht distorted sound he gets on it. plz listen to tht vid and reply to me
The Rhodes works on the same principle as a guitar: pick ups for the keys. The more oomph you put into your playing, the more single notes and especially chords will come out with that Rhodes growl. It also depends on your amp quite a bit. Depending on your settings, you can set yourself to play pretty softly, but once you punch it, you get awesome overdrive.
Hi, JoAq. Depends how old the bass is. The newer ones have a lighter action. Late 70's early 80's The ones before were heavier. I used one in a band, my left hand got pretty strong after a while.
just one question? why would you use this in a band? a normal bass is far mor versaitle and in my mind better sounding (ok, i'm a bassist) ;-) . and if you wanted to use a "keyboard bass" youldn't it work on a normal rhodes, too?
please reply, the existence of this device is a mistery to me :-D
Captin, Yes and yes. I had a band I had the bass and the Stage 73. Most of the time I used the low side of the 73 for the bass & when a piano song came it is there. I had practiced the rotating left hand Manzarekish lines { Doors were a favorite. } just natural to get one for Doors covers.
i you're playing a vox continental like Ray did, then the low end of that wouldn't cut it as a bass - hence the rhodes bass. More low end, more 'meat and potatoes' so to speak. But obviously a real bass player with 2 hands would be recommended :-)
@Eurobubble70 yes, i know they did on most of their studio albums, but the early stuff that they are best known for like light my fire mostly features the rhodes bass. and i've never seen any footage of them playing live with a bass guitar.
Man, what an amazing sounding keyboard! I currently have a Mark 1 Stage 88 and a Mark V Stage 73, a wurly, clavinet and B-3. Now I really want to get my hands on a piano bass. Would you consider selling it? Please let me know either way! Thanks. By the way, great playing as well!
This is cool but these days I would much rather just get a full length Rhodes piano. Don't get me wrong though I love this thing. I saw one of these in a second hand shop for a couple of hundred dollars. Bargain I know but I have no use for one.

I played one of these along time ago. I found them to be kind of sluggish and difficult to get just the right tone through a bass amp. And you better know how to work with the tines. They break and can lose their original sound. I was happy at that time to replace it with an Arp Odyssey and latter with a keyboard that has many sounds to chose from.
You can alter the pitch of any key on any Fender Rhodes keyboard. Unless they changed anything about it in the new re-issued models. You can also modify the tone of each individual key.
Originally you shold use a flat plug on the Rhodes, so then there are no problems in placing the hole where it is. Flat plugs are used on electric guitars, ordinary guitar cables...)
Perhaps you are referring to a Vox Continental combo organ. This being one of several combo organs Ray Manzarek (The Doors) used early on in conjunction with a Rhodes piano bass. I don't believe Rhodes electric pianos made red/reverse hue piano basses, 73, or 88 key Stage/Suitcase models.
Then again perhaps you are referring to the quite rare Rheem Key Bass, (seen on the musical group devo's 'whip it' music video) which actually fits your descrption.
Fender rhodes did made a Campbells soup color Fiberglass top in 62-63. It was called Fiesta Red. The had plans to do others in that color but only the piano bass was made into production.
Rheem Kee Bass (I spelled it wrong in the last post) piano bass keyboard? To see a picture of it, if you are unfamiliar with it, just google the words: Rheem Kee Bass combo organ heaven.
No. In fact I have never seen in person or heard the sound of the 'kee bass'. My brother plays keyboard. He has a Rhodes mark I suitcase 73 and a Yamaha YC30 combo organ for a vintage setup along with a Yamaha Motif workstation. I play the drums, but have an interest in brands and makes of different instruments.
Ok cool. Yeah, it has a cool look for sure. It sounds more synth like... than what I like, but is pretty cool. I've noticed the prices going up on them too on ebay. Looks like a fun board.
Incidentally, I just noticed a website where you can virtually click on the notes of the instrument to hear how it sounds. Google: (virtual rheem kee bass) for that unique option if you like.
