  • What a great musician and pianist ! At this artistic and pianistic high level, impossible and useless to compare such pianists between them. Everyone of them gave his own reading and performance !

  • when u play piano u live to 90 without problem

  • @johannsebastienbach Cziffra :'(

  • Rubinstein was great but for me my all time fav must be Horowitz that guy was just really good

  • Wonderful, thank you!!

  • Is he still alive? This interview looks like it was taped a while ago

  • @DoctorD47 no he died back in 1982 at the age of 95

  • @DoctorD47 no he died

  • In the list of things he has a 'prodigious appetite' for they forgot WOMEN! Ruberstein was an infamous ladies man.

  • I love listening to him play chopin and others

he doesn't rush it like some people ive listened to

  • He's almost the greatest pianist of the 20th century for me.

  • "nie dam się!" :)

  • I heard he was such a fun person to be around...

  • Horowitz had the looks, Rubenstein had the talent.

  • alguien me puede mandar la traduccion al español? gracias

  • @op111emdh nadie te la va mandar chico..no vas a saber nada de lo que dice pero lo que te puedo decir es que rubinstein tiene bolas..!!!ma que hombre..!

  • A magnificent interview!!!

  • @Mafiagcferrando01 It's the "Heroic" Polonaise in A Flat, Op. 53.

  • FRYDERYK CHOPIN!

  • A True musician.

  • @LVader20

  • pop culture is pure dacadentism...

  • compare him to silly clowns like Lang Lang

  • i luv you rubinstein . i look up to you and when i touch the keys i always try to be like you .

  • But Rubinstein has made it clear that no one should be like him. ;-)

  • My favourite pianist.

    The best ever!

  • Great man.

His autobiographies "My Young Years" and "My Many Years" are entertaining reading.

  • Thank you so much! (:-D)

  • What an extraordinary man.

  • Who is interviewing Rubinstein?

  • Well, Rubinstein was right it is very hard to translate. "Nie dam się" translated exaclty word after word would sound like "I will not give myself", what in Polish means just "I'll do my best to be strong, brave, successful, I'll never veer from the way of beliefs and opinions I've made up, I will always love life and no one will lay a finger on me 'cause I'm able to protect myself". Can't think of any longer nor shorter translation of these 3 words =)

  • What's his exact motto? The translation is way off, I don't think nay is even really a word in polish, or at least not related. nie dam sie, mentioned before in the comments doesn't seem to translate at least according to google. Does anyone know how to speak Polish?

  • "Nie dam się" can be rendered as "I won't give in". It is quite an emphatic way to say it.

  • thanks!

  • I love his accent. :)

  • Is the accent the only thing that you love about Rubinstein? Well I first thought you were an ignorant pop fan from the South till I checked your page

  • Comment removed

  • Yes it is "Christophleipzig"

  • Why do people love to argue about whatever? I am an absolut ignorant regarding classical music, I am an absolute lover of Pop culture, but that doesn´t mean I can´t be inspired and totally turned on by someone like Mr. Rubinstein! Is he the pianist of the century? I would say his love to life is greater than that!

  • @vierdiez Nope., horowitz was by a long shot.

  • @Vesivian Whatever, I think you misunderstood my comment.

  • NIE DAM SIE!

  • Rubinstein is amazing... People look up pianists on youtube and hear them perform 10 or 12 pieces and make a determination on whether or not they were good pianists.

Rubinstein played for... well at least 70 years. He retired at 89.

No one here can honestly say they are familiar with all interpretations of all the music he played. He was respected by his peers as more than an equal.

Just read what Joseph Lhevinne has to say about him. And Lhevinne was concert pianist quality.

  • At least to me, rubinstein's playing makes many others seem stale, I started searching him up on youtube after I heard one of his recordings, and I didn't hear much about him beforehand.

  • Great video with a lot of history. Is that Robert McNeil, the interviewer? He looks so young in the video. I figure it must be some time in the mid 1970's.

  • be honest. your jealous so your lashing out like a child. I guarantee he's better than you.

  • He admires a race that sticks together. Well, one race that sticks together, anyway. The rest of us shouldn't.

  • could you be more especific?

    why do you say that?

do you say that so many people think the oposite just for coincidence?

  • the medio`s manipulation is in many aspects but I don`t think in this; could happen a good pianist not been famous but in general famous ones are. Better than you or me sure he is...

  • I do not play piano at all, but I am the audience, do you think that only pianists can say anything? do pianists play just for other pianists, I don't think so.

  • no, I don´t think that only pianists can say there opinion, but if they do I believe they (we) will have more arguments to do it.

The audience can say something about there preferences, if they like it more or less, but not about especific things of performing in music.

  • you are completely wrong, in your world nobody would talk about anything, because nobody isn't expert enough. Full stop. I do not like people thinking the way you show, I do not agree with you, and I do not intend to discuss that.

  • argument and talk, is the only thing i said, but maybe you don´t have it anymore.. and take it easy child, in this forum anybody can said anything elsewhere, you ever can open your mouth...

  • Isn't it funny that the people you seem to admire, ARWENA55 (e.g. Paderewski, Sauer, Friedman, Neuhaus, Casals) all admired Rubinstein? You don't like Rubinstein's piano-playing? Fine. But if you are going to take it a step further and publicly spread your unfounded sweeping generalizations ("all just for money"? please...) and unsubstantiated opinion of him being a BAD pianist on EVERY SINGLE RUBINSTEIN VIDEO on youtube, it might do you some good to demonstrate the slightest musical knowledge.

  • OH MY GOD! Rubinstein a mediocre pianist? arwena55, you are an idiot

  • you are joking, right? Puknij się w czoło!

  • Great interview. I can't wait to see part 3 and 4!

  • Great! Where is part 2??

  • please filippeo post the second part soon...

    I love this interview!

  • Yes, please post part 2. Thank you for this!

  • Great video! Thanks for posting!

  • i love this interview soo much because it shows that besides being one of the greatest(my personal favorite) pianists of the last century he was a very deep thinker and had acquired true wisdom. my father(who is not a musician but had the fortune of seeing rubinstein in recital) told me this is the greatest interview he has ever seen. hopefully others will enjoy it too. ty filippeo
