  • I am very happy to see the vidoe This is the 4th flight of Space Exploration Technologies Falcon 1 from you, hopefully the others also are happy for You

  • I Love The Video This is the 4th flight of Space Exploration Technologies Falcon 1. It Can Increase My Knowledge

  • Nice Video This is the 4th flight of Space Exploration Technologies Falcon 1 That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You

  • I Really Like The Video This is the 4th flight of Space Exploration Technologies Falcon 1 From Your

  • Your Video This is the 4th flight of Space Exploration Technologies Falcon Is Very Useful Sharing

  • I came here because it was my birthday

  • Just as amazing, maybe even more so than the first shuttle launch considering this is a private company not a government run bureaucracy!

  • Would this vehicle pass emissions? I can't get my car to past emissions

  • '

where is this island for the rocket launch

  • @bestamerica Not 100% sure. Looks like it could be a small western island on cape Canaveral

  • @bestamerica This SpaceX facility is on Omelek Island (Kwajalein Atoll) in the southwest pacific.

  • ryaneGT,

    '

    okay thank,,,

this rocket is so great launching,,,

same as my R/C model rocket launcher at the dry lake

  • This will always be, for the wealthy elite.

  • @KrypticGuy666 Private space companies will start out marketing to wealthy passengers but in time, like the airline industry, tickets will become affordable for the average person.

  • @KrypticGuy666 -- Yes, for a long time, this kind of thing will be funded and used by the wealthy elite.

So it's a damned good thing that humanity has a wealthy elite.

  • 3:45 is that ice on the camera lens?

  • 9-28 is my birthday

  • And to think this rocket is only about as powerful as the Mercury Redstone. Yet it can do a lot more, like actually put something in orbit.

  • Big congrats to Space X , Elon Musk knows how to do things , who were the actual brainies behind this , who designed the combustion chambers and the turbopumps, were there old folks from Rocketdyne, did they did it on the old Von Braun numbers,,, when you need big liquid rocket power the formulas don't change over the years, what worked in the60's still does the same today,,,,,,,,,anybody know???....ahh! .remember the Saturn 5 had 5 engines @ 1.5 million pounds each the difference is gigantic.

  • The formulas do change, since SpaceX is using a pintle. Turbopumps and gas generators are also quite a lot simpler.

  • It's good to hear them using metric units for the commentary. I wonder if they also use metric units for design and hardware specs (fastener sizes etc)?

  • Anyone else noticed the "oh-oh" at 0:18 right after the woman says "We have lift-off"? :D i luld

  • 5,000,000 stars!...oh-boy-is-this-great!/milwaukee

  • So from a layman's perspective, what happens to the parts that fall back? What if they hit something?

  • You'll notice that they launched from an island and the trajectory of the flight up to the cut off of the second stage engine takes place over water. NASA, the European Space Agency and the Japanese Space Agency all do this. It drastically cuts the risk to anyone back on Earth.

  • US has shuttle replacement?

So why NASA recentrly ordered many flights on russian rocket and space ship?

  • This isn't a shuttle replacement. It's an experimental rocket launched by private investors.

The ARES rockets are in the testing stages now but they won't be certified as flight worthy before the projected retirement of the shuttle fleet.

  • Gotta make Space profitable so humans will be able to take that next step... Just recently a huge area of Mars was found to contain "Opals" worth billions on Earth but the costs to go there and mine them would eat all the profits... Gotta make space-travel cheaper!! I wonder if SpaceX landed a man in the Opals fields of Mars if they could lay claim to the mines??

  • Yeah, I know they added a delay to get rid of residuals in the CC, but the pitch over suggests bad mass distribution/CG, and a lack of mechanism for small attitude adjustments. I realize this adds complexity, but for manned missions I imagine they're going to run into troubles with qualification.

  • Staging still looks ugly. There's a marked pitch over and a fair amount of oscillation after. I don't recall seeing this in NASA vids, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

  • They added a delay after first stage shut down to prevent another loss like flight 3. It's pitching because there's no thrust it can use to steer until the second stage lights up. A few seconds of free fall doesn't hurt it. They successfully put flight 5 up a few days ago. :)

  • Is it necessary to smooth that out? Might be overcontrol. We're talking about 10 million dollar launches here, the way of the future may not necessarily be graceful.

  • This is incredible

  • NASA lost butt-loads of Rockets leading up to the Moon Landing!! 3 Astronauts including "Gus Grissom" were killed in a fire that started on a rocket before launch, Gus Grissom was to be the first man on the Moon, he was killed in the fire 2 years prior to the Moon Landing!! Despite the tragedies, the USA didn't back down from a challenge and continued flights! When 350 people are killed on a Jumbo Jet do they stop flying them?? NO... BTW 50,000 Americans are killed in car accidents yearly!!

  • Qantas holds a record of never crashing a plane, hopefully SpaceX can show off a similar quality standard.

  • unlikely, space launch is very dangerous.

I think as far as the Insurance is concerned they WILL loose a few rockets. All in a days work.

  • "LOL. McDonald's quality is subjective. What are you looking for? 5-star dining or something quick that satisfies the urge for comfort food"

Are you kidding? McDonald's is some of the most unhealthy food in earth and is one of the major causes of obesity in this country. Do you think any doctor would approve of eating McDonald's more often than very sparingly? I'm sorry man but you're almost crossing the line into corporate apologetics.

BTW, I never said free market capitalism existed yet.

  • Maybe they will sell the technology to NK.

  • I think its awesome SpaceX can do this, and North Korea can't.

  • thank you elon :)

  • MY B DAY IS SEP 1

  • get ready for flight 5!!

  • GO PAYPAL

  • i built and installed an oven for this company at their El Segunda, Ca location. Awesome company! Wish I worked there.

  • I can't wait to go to the moon! :)

  • Virgin Galactic, Space X...

Hopefully more companies will plug in the space competition. Private money are more effective than government money. And private space exploration wouldn't stress government budget.

  • This stuff is exciting. Imagine you worked on such a project for years and now you sit there watching it, and it's all in the hands of automated mechanisms (you hopefully designed right).

  • Ditto HiAdrian's remarks. This is one of the most exciting space film/video's I've ever seen. The only other emotion one feels is extreme envy for those lucky few who had worked on this project and got to witness the fruits of their labors.

The spirit of 1960's NASA lives on!

  • Awesome, very amazing to see this accomplishment

  • Jeez, I had a feeling an accomplishment like this might bring about right-wing "free market" fundamentalists because this is a success of a private effort. I really hate when people try to bring politics into spaceflight because it really is an apoltical, pan-human triumph. 'Socialist' countries like China and the former Soviet Union have rockets just as reliable (some more so) as ours. Technology and know-how is what makes it fly.

Whatever you politics, reach for the stars.

  • I believe in a free market, and I am insulted you called me right wing!

  • "I believe in a free market, and I am insulted you called me right wing!"

I know that not everyone who believes in a free market is right-wing. It's just that in the post-Regan era most people who call themselves "free marketers" are usually right-wingers of some sort. But I don't believe what right-wing parties practice is actually a free market in any meaningful sense.

  • Of course not right wingers practice capitalism. And the greatest trick they ever pulled was convincing people that capitalism is similar to a free market, it is not. It survives on lies, deceit, and a controlled market by the top 1% of investors. That my friend is not a free market.

  • You are right. in that Republicans are not free marketers. If you want a free market, go to Somalia. I also think it is ludicrous and misleading to use ignorant terms like left or right.

  • I agree with you guys. I'm a lefty and I'm all for an ACTUAL free market. But that's not what we have in real life. I actually admire SpaceX because they're probably closer to real free market company than military industries and other big corporations. They're a startup company in a highly competitive market (because so few other private companies are doing it) trying to be competitive by actually producing great quality and low prices.

  • Are you being funny? The market is not competitive because "so few other private companies are doing it." The more competitors, the more competition. The less, so on. But there is competition to gain access to the current monopoly on spacelift. Anyways, if you are interested in real free markets go to mises . org

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know why you thought I was being funny.

"Anyways, if you are interested in real free markets go to mises . org"

I've been and I'm quite well-acquainted with the man and his theories. I'm an amateur economist (and a space nerd). I agree with some of his theories and disagree with some others. He has some interesting ideas but his vision of "free markets" but there are several theories on markets and his ideas aren't mine.

  • Good, serious discussion. I am unable to see the logic in the less competitors theory. I would argue that the quality and work that has gone into SpaceX's success has more to do the desire not to throw money away. The spoils are great for those who can prove themselves. Suffering a failure like that of North Korea would scare away investors and raise the cost of the venture. I am also not so sure that there is no government money swirling around these companies. DARPA runs deep.

  • Very true.

  • However, capitalism, like Marxism, doesn't necessarily pan out in reality like it does on paper. While in theory a lot of competition breeds quality and low prices it doesn't necessarily work out that way in real life. McDonald's faces a lot of competition in the food industry yet their quality is terrible and their prices are relatively high considering the low quality of the food. Then there are cases like local restaurants which have little competition but have good food and prices.

  • LOL. McDonald's quality is subjective. What are you looking for? 5-star dining or something quick that satisfies the urge for comfort food. Salt, fat and carbs... yummy. I would need an example of a local restaurant that charges low prices but offers 3- to 5-star dining. But I digress. Can you demonstrate a time when free-market capitalism actually existed?

  • Ukrainian rockets also use such engines. Are there engineers from Ukraine in the team?

  • Not sure -- but the engines used (Merlin & Kestrel) were developed in-house by SpaceX, from scratch.

  • Ukrainian rockets do not use SpaceX engines. Only SpaceX uses SpaceX engines, and it will stay that way until SpaceX decides to sell the design.

  • Congratulations!

  • What on earth are you ppl talking about - this is a rocket launch.

  • Bravo SpaceX!!!

  • q lixoo

  • congrats on your successful launch. thanks for posting your video for us to see...5*'s

  • wow!! One day that will be our kids.

  • so this spaceship did not have to go in circles

    but straight??

  • Awesome! It's good to see the little guys do this kind of thing, akin to the indie-filmmaker making a good film, proving to hollywood that it can be done without all the bling bling.

Don't get me wrong. I love NASA. I just wish people would realize that it's vital to us so many ways.

The great Sci-Fi movies may have be prophetic in their depiction of future space exploration being held in the hands of corporations.

The space pioneers deserve our support.

  • Oh man lots of typos

  • Very nice ... congratulations. You worked hard for this moment. I'm suitably impressed. (Now please improve the dang audio links so we can enjoy these vids a little more?)

  • Masha Allah.

  • lol this was my birthday

  • Yes it does. Your two videos aren't even real videos...they're just slide shows with music playing.

  • Chinas first space walk, first fully privatized orbit. It's a good time for space exploration.

  • Watching this in fast forward is pretty sick

  • your right dude ...it is cool in f/fwd..!

  • Awesome, well done!!! been watching this for a while and so pleased to see such awesome results :)

  • Was it manned or unmanned, who launched it and from where?

  • Unmanned satellite launcher, launched from Omelek Island in the Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands.

Launched by Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX).

  • ???????????

  • Congratulations - big step for the entire world!! Perhaps some of us will see space in our lifetimes! :)

  • you can see space everytime you look up at a clear sky at night

  • ufoabductee, YouTube isn't a great place to start telling your story because everything people say here is a lie. So that must mean...

  • more trash in orbit!

  • @gio31brasil, all parts of the rocket jettisoned in the video will be recovered in the ocean. The rest of the rocket, because it is in LEO, will burn up in the atmosphere in only a few years.

  • thanks for the info!!

  • Actually, the second stage is in orbit more than 100 kilometers above the orbit of the international space station.

Unless it collides with something, it will be there for more than 100 years.

  • you're an idiot. just because something is a 'conspiracy' its immediately stupid and was thought up by a man in a mental home somewhere.

you can lie to yourself if you want and think that our goverments, countries and democracies are perfect but you cant convince your self its not happening when it does, which will probally be about 20yrs

  • You're an idiot. Just because I dismiss your nonsense for what it is, you automatically accuse me of having unbridled faith in governments. I have nothing of the sort. What I see is an historical analysis of the world's woes, not something that excuses me from having to do anything about the world's problems by pretending that they're all due to a bunch of people conspiring.

  • what the fuck do you mean you see a historical analysis of the worlds woes? lol i dont know what to say so ill try to sound smart by stringing a few words together.

anyway this is done. you've already admitted to my first point which is you dismiss anything deemed a conspiracy without looking into it at all, so you cant argue with me if you dont even know what im talking about

  • It was a typo. What I meant to say was that I SEEK an historical analysis. Unlike you; you just want to blame everything bad on a few guys in a dark room, which absolves you from any responsibility for trying to change things, because you can always say "This is all their fault" (and since you can't point to who "they" they, you'll always be free to gas-bag about "occult symbols" and other inconsequential nonsense). This is the way of cowards.

  • wow your as ignorant as you are stubborn.

don't you think any conspiracy like theory goes any deeper than blaming the people behind it? Do you honestly think people just make up these things? No, they dedicate alot of time, a real lot - some even for 30years now - to researching and trying to unravel the web that the global elite have caught us in.

And if your trying to say that the ppl who believe in these theories are "lazy", look up zeigeist - revolution the title should be self explanitory

  • "Do you honestly think people just make up these things?"

Often, yes. It's common for people to see things that aren't there. In a large enough set of occurrences, there will always be patterns that appear to signify something deeper.

  • well you can believe what you want I suppose, but how you can persuade yourself you're right when you've never looked into my side of the argument at all is beyond me

  • "how you can persuade yourself you're right when you've never looked into my side of the argument at all"

Or indeed you into mine. It always amazes me how some people who push conspiracy theories present themselves as "open minded", yet EVERYTHING they believe has to to framed in terms of a favoured narrative. You've simply assumed that I'm close minded because I don't happen to agree with you.

  • No, I call you close-minded because you've told me already that you never looked into it, twice.

and what exactly is your side of the argument?

  • If you think that "occult practises" are anything of any importance...well. The government is perfectly happy for people to believe in these conspiracy theories. It distracts them from the actual dynamics of power by getting them to focus on personalities rather than institutional imperatives, which is what actually matters. If you can get people to focus on occult practises and masonic lodges, then they will be distracted from looking at how the socio-economic system ITSELF is what's wrong.

  • hmmm, I'm not quite sure if thats actually the way you speak or if your trying to sound smart, what is an 'occult practise'?

anyway, i seem to slightly agree with your post.

But I must tell you I did not gain my views and opinions from watching conspiracy theories, i looked at the Worlds problems, things that are going on around me and other political issues.

and I think there is no way that there cannot be some sort of conspiracy/corruption.

I know I haven't explained myself very well in...

  • Nope, not me trying to sound smart. Not even how I normally speak. I'm simply repeating what YOU said. Is this how you normally talk, or is it just you trying to sound smart?

  • Is that all you can pick out from those two posts! that was just a wee side note I thought of when reading your post, I dont see how you're repeating ME (aren't caps great ;p) I never realised I was using odd language, didn't think I was, so yes at least this is how I type, perhaps not how I speak however.

  • Okay. Clearly you're a hypocrite who doesn't have the integrity to admit his own words.

The way I'm repeating you is simply this: I'm repeating you, as in rewriting something you wrote.

  • wow what a stubborn asshole you are! I was trying to be nice and see if we could agree on something but you continue to attack me.

And lol 7legion is right, you really are done. still going on about speech eh?

  • ....this post but as I was saying I dont believe in a grand conspiracy that would 'shake the core of our very existence' but it is possible.

Anyway i have watched certain conspiracy theories and found that many of their beliefs (But not all) are sharen with mine.

I will continue to follow what I believe and its only getting easier for me to do so as What I thought would happen unfolds.

perhaps we could agree if we did not instantly think of each other as enemies

  • Yes, you were trying to be nice and yet you had to throw in the comment "does it make you sound smart"?

NOW we can be nice to each other.

  • oh, and by the way, what exactly have you changed in the world with your mystical knowledge?

  • Wow! This reminds me of the Mercury missions. I hope they can pull off with a passenger next time. Yet, I still dig Scaled Composites' unique way of getting a vehicle to space, though I dunno if they already figured out how to make their Spaceship One practical for re-entry.

  • how many days do they stay in space

  • This launch represents an incredible moment in space exploration! Elon Musk has realized his and many others dream of successful, private space flight! Salutations to him and his team for this monumental achievement.

  • dude, waay too many video games...but this indeed kicks ass

  • i dont quite get you but i presume something to do with the first moon landing?

  • Yeah your right. All the medical, technological, entrepreneurial, military and legal innavations are all pure fantasy.

  • exactly! :)

  • hahahaha-troll

  • Trolls are real.. hehehe.

  • how did trolls come up in this

  • perfeito!

  • This is amazing! Was this manned?

  • FAlCON PUNCH!!!!!!

  • How are you getting thumbed down? That was brilliant.

  • hahaha good one man

  • Watch out in the next couple years for the devastating DRAGON PUNCH.

  • congratulations well done.

Wow, they mentioned this is a company !!!

    Double Wow...

  • I wayted this time so much, finally falcon is up!:P thank you all!!

greetz from finland ( helsinki )

  • awesome!!!

  • Земля в иллюминаторе.. впервые вижу такое красивое видео о запуске ракеты =-) надеюсь лет через 30 у всех будут приватные космолеты ^^

Поздравляю всех тех кто трудился над таким хорошим проектом!!!

  • This is neat.

  • Oh and btw Kaidokert the United States has set a goal of returning to the moon and then on to Mars. And that will mean even more new technologies that the "free market" will be able to work into their space enterprises.

  • Kaidokert, I'm not confused. The United States was in a space race with the Soviet Union and had to develop technologies that did not exist in order to get to the moon. technology does not spring straight from thin air, it is based on research of scientists that have come before. Without the work of NASA scientists (and German scientists who defected to get away from the communists) there would be no space technolgy, no satellites and no SpaceX.

  • WDYM there would be no satellites ? You must have missed the fact that lots of space technology has been developed outside NASA ? Satellites ? You do recall the little "Sputnik" thingy, right ?

  • Sputnik was the first satellite

  • great job, the future of space exploration is in private companies hands

  • Allright! Congrats to SpaceX! 4th time's a charm!

  • NASA = Never A Straight Answer

  • (+1) LOL!!!

  • which country was it launched from?

  • ahhh i'm scared of heights! but that was awesome

  • Lol if you are that high up i dont think you would fall. So dont worry :P

  • Tuned in just in time to see this live. Pretty exciting to see a genuinely historic event as it happens.

  • It seems you're a moron. This is a private effort. It's privately funded. People like you are an embarrassement.

  • The fact that you told me to die shows how uneducated you are. Shame on you and the environment that you are being brought up.

the fact that you did NOT deny that you are being controlled by the zionist shows that you ADMIT that you are either a zionist jew or just a brainwashed moron. Enjoy your miserable life and WELCOME TO THE WORLD WHERE THERE ARE PEOPLE AWAKEN. A NEGATIVE person like you can never live a decent life.

  • Glad you got em all figured out. Rest easy in your mastery of the human condition, for you are all knowing and can take comfort in your superiority. So please, can we leave the irrelevant speeches behind now?

  • Okay, clearly I do NOT have a mastery of youtube replies. This was intended for zigzaggy whatever.

  • zigyzigy you worthless piece of shit, this is a Private non government related space craft. Stop believing every single pathetic, worthless and garage piece of shit conspiracy.

  • The FACT that the US government is in bankrupt is a conspiracy??? It's VERY OBVIOUS that the US is in this situation. Moreover, your beloved PRESIDENT BUSH have said it very recently about the crisis of this country. I suggest you to eat some organic food to wash out your stupidity.

  • Oh of course, everything relates back to bush. Get a life and stop arguing over Youtube and fucking watch the video. And besides this has nothing to do with the US Government.

  • You're the one who's argueing and started first. Let me tell you about the CONSPIRACY FACTS. People like you voted and supported him years ago and now you say it's Bush's fault. YOur also part of it you got it? You need to STUDY, read some GOOD books, Use your brain that has been kept and wasted for so long. Get a life? Part of my life is to wake up people form being ignorant like you. Too bad that your brian is too small to understand what I'm trying to say.

  • WOW CONGRATULATIONS !

  • EPIC

  • This is a great accomplishment! The first private company.

    Regarding taxpayers funding NASA...

A HUGE portion of NASA's budget goes into education programs and non-"in-space" things. "Poor people" aren't paying for space-ships. Poor people get far more from tax receipts than they give. I agree that private space is the best way, but don't bash NASA. NASA gets less than "Poor People" use to by drugs with food stamps.

  • lol flat earth socaity i wonder wut logic they will make up after watching this video

  • I really don't understand dis video.... sowe guyz...........

  • A first grader can...

  • We have seen the furthest parts of the universe and now know it is more diverse and strange than science fiction writers ever imagined. Thank you NASA and all the _private_ contractors (Grumman etc) for all this and more. And congratulations to Space Exploration technologies!
