  • Comment removed

  • @mcflugger jealous im guessing?

  • @camzyparks yesa thats correct lol

  • this is the scv i like lol

  • Bass 5= FREAKING BEASTS much respect for him

  • Bass 5 = Bass Drum King

  • Anyone who says that bass 5 isn't the man is jealous because they can't carry bass 5..

  • MEZZO FORTE! :D

  • Jesus that Bottom bass is low....

  • :55 y is he looking down like the hole time

  • anyone else think its funny that vic firths' trailer for all their feature vids starts with an intro that only has the cadets drumline in it?

  • wish I had a center snare like that back when I was marching......90-95....HOT

  • these carriers look alot like yamaha mono posts

  • @justabackup That's because Randall May International makes both Pearl's and Yamaha's carriers.

  • the snare line is good i just hate the way the center chick duts

  • @tenor1vm lol duit? duit? duit? duit?

  • @chutdigadut haha yes she sounds confused

  • although i march show band field shows i admit this look pretty fun

  • dude these are some seriously sexy AAND clean beats taking place here!

  • Well we all know how females move up in this world and it has nothing to do with how good they are, take that back, it's all about how "good they are". Cheers.

  • at :54 far right tenor player has his carrier body plate upside down

  • @Evanespant actually a few of the tenor belly plates were flipped lol

  • !best corps point blank!

  • Holy crap, that bass drum is more than half his size! Must have been a complete beast to do that.

  • GO WILLIS!

  • who evers duhting sounds like a seal =D

  • @drmrguy1979 well you are incorrect

I heard from someone who marched two years with her that she was pretty bad

  • @phantomarsh

SHE WAS GOOD ENOUGH 05-08, she must have been one of the best snares for them to

    pick 4 x in a row!

  • KG!

  • @DrmrGuy1979 i kno but thats wat i heard so i was jus sayin wat i heard but she BA

  • Obviously she wasnt TOO much of a tick box, marching of SCV and being their center snare isn't exactly a small thing...

  • wait! is that a girl on center snare?

  • yea i heard she was a tick box

  • @Frickashade bad or good thing? and i think thats pretty cool. shows she has what it takes.

  • @thsma2009 tick box means that the player messes up good reps or messes up just in general but on the good side she can out drum me ne-day i've watched her in the lot nd she was hella good

  • @Frickashade OH i gotcha!

  • ya dude... she was a center snare of one of the best drumlines in DCI. of course shes good

  • thats messed up dude

  • ticks don't tap dude.

  • @thsma2009 Yeah.

  • excellent work!

  • what does that guy say at 3:33? it sounds like he says " XO Forte" but thats just me

  • haha he is saying mezzo forte

  • lol idk what i was thinkin... XO and mezzo sound the same...i guess i just heard it wrong haha.

  • no thats fine haha i have this podcast on my ipod so i like to watch it a lot

  • I wonder why only the snares have covers off...

  • hahahaha the girl dutting at the beginning is annoying as hell... it sounds like she's barely got any breath and she's going dut? dut? dut? dut? dut? like with an upward inflection... lol go vanguard!

  • is there any drum corps that uses pearls with evans heads..

i know those who use both remo and evans for Yamaha.. and dynasty who use remo and evans.. but pearl only seems to have remo. love remo btw

  • thats cause bad heads on good drums sounds bad.

  • our drumline at my school uses evans heads on pearl drums.......

  • i think you'll see the Pearl/Evans combination with BD this year

  • Watch BD in 2010.

  • For some reason Remo, Pearl and Vic Firth have some attraction to each other. The only thing that disgusts me about that combination is that they used that combo for Drumline.

  • thats the best combination

  • @GP3PocketSnare lol its funny how every drummer hates that retarded ass movie

  • @justabackup Even Nick Cannon hates that movie!

  • @GP3PocketSnare And what would you suggest it be used for?

  • @broncosnare2006 Suggest what to be used for?

  • @GP3PocketSnare AMAZING combo for battery in my opinion

  • troopers

  • well blue devils will in 2010.

and the new evans hybrids sound great.

  • and how guy will that be

  • we use that combo at my high school. those heads pull pretty easy but they sound and feel great

  • Troopers use Pearl drums with Evans heads.

  • i've always thought that scv has the biggest bass 5

  • bluecoats 2008

  • my school has scv's quads and basses from like 04 or 05 or something like that, and yea, the bass 5 is massive...its like 2 sizes bigger than our older bass 5

  • yay for left hand leads at 1:12

  • they went to vanderbilt university.

  • hopefully i'll be playing on one of these drums next year.

  • no you won't... they got new ones... oh snap

  • do you know where these drums went? i'm sure they didn't just disappear.

  • so did you buy one of them?

  • that was a terrible but funny joke lol

  • i dont care what anyone else says, i think this is pretty sick lol

  • My point was just that both Mr. Angelis and Mr. Queen felt that better experiences could be found elsewhere...whatever the reason. For Queen, it was to study with Mr. Ralph.

  • Continuing with my entry, both Nick Angelis and Jeff Queen ( individual snare champs) left SCV for less well know in 1993; so, I don't know how good the line could have been, if say Queen left for the Black Knights. How embarrasing for SCV.

  • Like I said, I resumed watching in 2004; so, my comments must be restricted to that timeframe and beyond. In 2005, the percussion switch to matchgrip and looked and sound ridiculous. They deserved 8th place. When the Bluecoat percussion outplayed SCV last year, you can safely assume mediocrity; although, the Bluecoats ascended to a whole new level last year.

The kids today aren't any better than us. I have made it a point to master hybrids as well as everything else.

  • If you review your second communique' to me, then you'll understand why I qualified my statements in that why that I did.

I think that it is clear that you didn't agree with my statements; otherwise, why response? I have no problem with dissent.

Regarding quality, I have only begun watching DCI again since 2004. I would say that I haven't been impressed at least since 2004. It is so bad that Carolina Crown might overtake SCV this year.

In the late 80s, SCV ruled and now...no.

  • You completely missed the point. The Santa Clara Vanguard has been mediocre for YEARS.

I agree that score alone isn't a sufficient test, especially when the very top corps can literally be separated by tenths of a point. For SCV, it is about a blantant lack of quality year after year...for many years. No one is more disappointed than me. I was a huge fan in the late 80s, because SCV was on the frontier of everything good. Now, that is not the case.

My comments are fair and valid.

  • From 1987-1989, I marched PR snare.

On a related note, my statement is sound inspite of my corps experience. Perhaps, you should take a course in logic.

  • Santa Clara has been mediocre for years. In 2008, they clearly continued that tradition.

  • Mediocre in relativity to what, perfection?

  • In relation to almost any other top 12 corps. When you have an easy book, it is easy not to tick. Don't pat yourself on the back.

  • oh lol cuz u hav all teh boocks off eferii top 12 core of teh pas decade orr s0 and u hav cumparedd tem. hahaaa

  • There is no need to have the books, you can hear it when they play. As an example, the Bluecoats were so much better in percussion in 2008 than SCV.

  • Yeah, and how Bluecoats were so much better than Phantom Regiment in percussion in 2009. lol

Anyways, I'm not even a SCV fan, but you're acting like they can't even play a clean triplet roll or sextuplet run once. Just because a corps' percussion section is mediocre in your view (which has yet to be declared as valid with presented empirical evidence) doesn't mean they're going to cause the end of the world. Grow up.

  • Despite the Corps finish this year, PR percussion was in the top three as normal.

Any line can play triplet rolls and sextuplets cleanly. Of course, SCV didn't even play anything that interesting.

  • This kicks Ass

  • i love SCV. love them. but i have to ask, who thought 6 tenors was a good idea. a bad ass idea, sure. but a good one? idk.

  • What's with the six tenors? They're clean, but you don't need that much tenor sound.

  • not according to them :D

  • How to you switch positions when crabbing

  • stop and go

  • Thanks for nothing

  • carefully >:) otherwise you end up on you're ass

  • well sum schools and corps mite do it differently idk, but most ppl will have you take a "dead step", or were when you should cross your foot you don't, that way when you go into a different position your feet aren't crossed. hope that helped, seeing as you didn't think the other guys comment was helpful =/

  • Thanks bro

  • this was taken in pottsville!

  • bass 5 is so damn big. and it was clean

  • i love SCV the whole corps

wish they had more footage of the basses

  • VIPERRRR!!!

  • whats up with the belly plates being upside down on like half the tenors?

  • Those harnesses are designed that way for maximum comfort, especially for taller people. You can seriously modify nearly every piece on the harness for comfort. Plus they are under their uniforms anyway, so who cares what they look like!

  • i think theyre upside down so the tenors can be supported by the abs insted the lower belly area. im not sure though, the bolts wouldnt come off my snare harness plate so i personally havent tried it

  • ill have to try it, we have brand new carbon fiber carriers with the j-bars though. got them for free from the yamaha booth at adla :)

  • i did it for my bass, my tech said it was for the really tall guys, cause the plate was too high.

  • Where's the downbeat?!?! This show always confuses me.

  • cant hear the Dr. Beat in the back??? lol

  • i only hear the girl Dutting everyone in... She does sound like the doctor beat metronome though....

  • My bad, i posted that before the clip was finished, lol

  • Its in 3/4

  • why does the bottom bass play with his mallets parallel to the ground? i've seen the bottom from phantom regiment do it to, and it's just weird...

  • What is the correct way to do the crab march? Someone break it down for me.

  • When crabbing to the left, you march right foot over the left. When crabbing right, you march left foot over right. You stay on the balls of your feet at all time and when coming to a halt, you plant the foot of the last beat and bring the right foot in to an attention position.

  • couldnt someone else dut for her!?

  • omg those DUTS ARE SOOOOO ANNOYING.

  • aka scooops

  • all this talk about bd vs. scv. who's cooler or better

i think the book for scv is a lot FUNNER to play than bd.

people still play music for fun now days right?

  • those are sound projectors. they help project the sound towards the crowd

  • Yawn to the opening book.

  • Chick lead snare? What?

  • just reading the comments on here, and i noticed some fights amongst BD and SCV/PR/etc..

whats the beef between BD fans and all others?

  • blue devils fans and members/ex-members think that the blue devils are hands down the best drum core out there. i think blue devils have cool shows, but this music is more fun to play.

  • ha ha ha their duts sound so wierd

    cause of the girl.

  • hahhahaha it makes me wanna kill somebody :)

  • +seriously though. gusseck needs to do his thang again.

  • He did a great job with the battery that year. As for the front percussion the music wasn't his forte and he wrote stock music which is why overall they had a low percussion score.

  • WHY wont Murry write the book again!!!! He can write circles around this shit just like in '05

  • Oh, I had no idea. I must have missed her at the last WGAZ show I went to...

  • lol damn when is that chick gonna age out, shes been there forever

  • I believe she did this year.

  • Yeah, Cat aged out this year. She's now a snare tech at Academy.

  • and mine at paragon, brock

  • man the bass line at 2:58 gave me a chill

  • dude what about 2:05 ???? lol

  • god 5th bass is huge

  • or the drummer's a small man. Or a combination of both. But indeed, that bass looks giant!

  • awesome dudes! u r great!!

    bd yeah!

  • ouch! hittin rims on the close up!!

that had to bug him for months.

  • LOL.. vic firth caught me readjusting on a close up. it sucks.

  • i love funky six-man tenor lines.

  • i'm sorry but there's too much camera movement. I almost got dizzy watching this video. The corps is moving more then you need to. not bad though, but please, less camera movement.

  • SCV always has a sexy book. One of my favorites every year, regardless of their placement.

  • Rudlka89 - The difference is BD doesn't play the same notes, which means they are not musical. Think about it...

  • yo. the blue devils had a musical book in 2007 and look how that was received by the youtube populace. blue devils fans are tired of dealing with bullshit double standards.

  • I think BD fans should stop thinking they are devine and just worry about their corps. Yeah, ScoJo is great. I'll give you that. But dont act like hes the only caption head out there. Murray has done some great things at SCV, including writing MUSICALLY. That is something Scott Johnson hasn't really succeeded at as much as Gusseck and Casella.

  • Gusseck (and many others) are too concerned about groovin' in the lot.

  • This is and independent drum & bugle corps, no school affiliation. It's similar, but in a few ways, very different from band. They are one of the best, though.

  • Whoa... huh?

  • what was that visual at 2:04 ... wax on wax off??

  • those are some nice ass beats right there :-)

  • Anyone who has that lick at 3:12 written out plz send it to me.

  • How many corps has Mike Jackson been with? I know he marched bass for Vanguard back in the day.

  • Mike Jackson never marched in SCV, he marched with the Blue Knights in 1992 on the snareline. I think he also marched with Suncoast, but I may be wrong on that one. Jim Casella the previous arranger besides Murray Gusseck marched 3rd Bass with SCV from 89-91

  • Man I forgot how big a 5th bass drum was.....

  • i still like mike jackson better. ;]

  • i cant rlly tell but at 1:57 the snare in the middle is my drum instructor

  • I SEE ISAAC :D

  • Man 3:04 visual gives me chills one of the simplest most best visuals ever

  • tenors do it at 1:53 too

  • SCV's battery writing is phenomenal because it's actually musical.

  • I agree not all that dancing around like BD and Phantoms line is awsome also my two fav lines

  • Funny that you're criticizing Blue Devils when you have them in your name.

  • thank prof. brian mason for that. he is an amazing writer.

  • +1 for Murray Gusseck, also.

  • BD would play the same notes, but everything at full extension. Oh yeah, what place did BD get in drums this year? 5th? Ouch. Maybe next year's drum break won't be a reiteration of the standard 4 on the hands 2 on the feet drum kit lick...lame.

  • bahahaha keep telling yourself that one, bud. What place did they come in? oh..second? What place in drums..oh wow. 5th? But let me guess, they're still soooo much better than everyone else, right?

  • Yo, Shail, if it was BD, they'd be playing it their style, and in their style, it wouldn't be the same, and that's probably why they'd get shit. Come on, you know that.

  • you suck bd's cock on every thread.
