used to go there in the mid 80s .. they only had a few rides left and arcades .. was a nice place to go at night and eat and have fun up there. i guess its all gone now ........
Grew up in the '60s and early '70s, used to love going to Salisbury Beach. So sad that there are no longer any amusement rides at there. Used to be so many rides: roller coaster, ferris wheel, Hymolaya, the spinning tea cups, etc. I guess now, in our lawsuit-centric society, they'd be afraid some little kid would get injured and sue them. But how much fun, was it, to go to the beach, swim in the ocean, and then go on all the ride...oh, and eat a lot of cotton candy and pizza and junk food.
It is a very simple fact..Once the "Kings of the Midway" (Wildcat and the Frolics) were destroyed, so went the massive ,continuall crowds, at Salisbury Beach. A developer would be wise to resurrect a like type midway/boardwalk..The North Shore certainly has the population and the need , to support it..
That coaster looked to be amazing. Too bad it is gone now...along with all the other rides that used to be there. The people that took out the rides ruined Salisbury Beach :(
Regarding the liberals against buildind Salisbury beach, if you ban alcohol within the few blocks of the "center" you would keep the "bad crowd" out. It works for Wildwood down in N.J. Hey anything to bring the glory days back.
Excellent video. I think if the city decided to build 2 more arcades and add about 15-20 rides, Salisbury beach may be able to get some of it's magic back.
there was a second rollercoaster, closer to the beach and just north of this one that was not running in the 70's. anyone remember the name of that one?
@rickdragster09 thanks bud! seems like everything started to change after the blizzard of '78. salisbury screams for a nice amusement area and a world class wooden coaster
its a damn sham the beach end up they way it is now to many librals down there running the show there was a group of business men that walked in the town hall that owns a company out in penn that were the original builders of the wild cat coaster they want to put another coaster at the beach to many voters run against it what a sham the town hall and the voters said we dont want the bad crowd down here any more wow only if rodger shaheen was still alive hes porobably rolling around in his grave
I went to Salisbury Beach A LOT in my youth. I remember as we were nearing the beach me or one of my siblings tried to be the first to see either the ferris wheel or the coaster.
I road on that coaster at least once. It was terrifying.
Sorry to see it's gone. I visited the "Center" this summer during my vacation to MA and NH, visiting family members.
It was fun but not like it was when I was young.
I don't live there any more - I now live in New Mexico.
What a great video ... I remember the few times when I dared to go on the thing when i was younger... You could see the whole Atlantic Ocean from the top... That is if you dared to open your eyes. Even today if I sit on the beach late at night as the fog rolls in I can almost hear the sound that coaster made slowly crawling up the tracks and then the screams as it dcropped
How GREAT! The only image I can remember of the Wildcat was when I was a kid around 9 or 10 and I was sitting in the way back of my parents station wagon while riding to an aunts houses in Sailsbury. We drove past the Wildcat and even at that age I was mesmerized by wooden roller coasters so I remember looking out that window until it was completely out of view. I saw the Revere Beach Cyclone the same way. I really appreciate the post. Thought I would never see it running, thank you, Rob/Boston
No. the Wilcat at Elitch was built in 1936. There were seberal Wilcat models in the earlier years. The Wilcat in Salisbury, MA was destroyed in 1976 after being deemed unsafe.

You are so right! The need IS there. It would be incredible if something like this existed once again. Such memories I have of this place.
