  • One big mistake! take your hands off the wheel at impact. I hurt my shoulder pretty good like that. Other than that you were perfect in hitting the barrier with the right rear. Good job.

  • Hemade one of the worst mistakes any driver can make. Instead of looking away from the tires, he stared directly at them as he was about to hit them

  • @ItalkBoutStuff Which video did you watch?

  • what you should have done was used the gears to slow you down. Compression lockup. BUT having said that, its not the first thing that comes to mind when your in that situation. you handled it great for on the spot thinking

  • @babemokzar If you watch he goes straight for first gear I think. Great reactions, I assume it's not your first brake failure?

  • @richardjohnstone looks and sounds like neutral... you would hear the engine rev up if it was first... regardless. he composed himself well remained pretty damn calm and did very well for split second thinking

  • on the track in that situation you should apply clutch braking with handbrake...

  • That could have gone MUCH worse. Good job keeping yourself in one peice!

  • Why did he steer into the grass?

  • why neutral?

  • Ahwww man, What a bummer!

  • Damn scary ride. For the short time you had to react, you did pretty good. Not perfect as everyone loves to point out, but chances are they haven't had brake failure at the end of a long straight ;) Glad you're ok.

  • good job on knowing the track well enough to realize that you had a better chance at minimizing the damage if you got the car turned around and heading for the far wall with lots of runup to slow down to a decent speed for a collision, props for that man good job, though idk how bad the damage is its alot better than hitting the wall head on, this is a perfect example why you should use stainless brake lines on any car that sees the track, even if it was rubbing it wouldn't have failed

  • i think that was the best you could do man. just one Q? do you know about how fast you were going at the point of impact? i just amused the airbags would go off at that speed.

  • @Taylorjlarkin I would guess 40 or 50 at the point of impact. Even though it doesn't have side airbags, I'm pretty sure most cars have g-sensors that know which direction you're impacting. Since I had a sideways impact, the front airbags wouldn't have done any good in this situation.

  • Radio: Insert cd, problem?

  • you did the best maneuver by not hiting with the engine.....better luck next time

  • Had you not panicked, could you have just driven to the left more? Looks like a lot of real estate and a break in the tire wall where you coulda just kept going. I'm making my first trip down to VIR in November and I'm an instructor, so I'd like to learn as much as I can about the nuances of the track ahead of time.

  • Ive had this happen to me on the road, you should have used your hand brake more, you only pulled it up twice.

Not much you can doinasituation like this, first your bolloks fall out your mouth and then you attempt to do something.

Gutted you didnt grip the grass a little more and get round the corner to the left....

    Least your ok i guess.

  • definitely ricer

  • @0:26. This is what Chuck Norris does when his wing mirror folding mechanism packs a sad.

  • Good thing you were wearing a HANS, or you might've been done for the event. I have stainless brake lines on my JDM Accord, 100% improvement in response feel, and I like the added safety. Good reaction and judgement when you went off. ;)

@ColtonKuhn1 Turn 1 is an increasing radius hairpin turn, simply turning in too hot would've spun out onto the grass, flipped, rolled, perhaps worse. Tire wall's closer too. Search Youtube, you can find videos of this. Mazduhsp33d did the right thing.

  • hmmm should have turned into the upcoming turn maybe there wouldn't of been a crash?

  • good job putting it sideways. On grass there`s little you can do and it happens so fast.

  • I would have tried to hit it straight on, a car's structure is designed to absorb the most energy in a full frontal crash.

But the bigger question is... why would a new Subaru fail a brake line ?? I bet it was aftermarket with shoddy installation.

  • seems like lost him sir...idiot

  • Funny how the CD player seems to believe he would like to change a taste in music.

  • i would of turned left and step on the gass...trying not to hit

  • @ObeyySpyro Don't mean to bash your comment but you never know what you'll do until you're in the situation haha. Unless your trained that is. Even still, it all has to do with how you react in emergency situations and how clear your head is at the time which is pretty unpredictable.

  • @Aypaxable Sorry my cuzin posted tht /:

  • Fair play for managing to get the thing slowed down as much as you did!

  • he did the right thing .............

  • @jwcarreira he paniced he didnt do the right thing. he should have stayed in gear and slow the car using engine brake and not apply the headbrake forcefully but gently and slowly....so no he didnt do the right thing

  • Why did u not hold the handbrake??? Better on the pavement not on grass get more traction but still good save u slew down alot could have been worse

  • hey man i race arielv0 on forza this guy is smart. No ... NO hes an idiot.

  • Well handled sir

  • if you could know how to drift in that corner... a little handbrake and gas should do the job in this situation! Drive safe.

  • Good save mate. Nice reaction...

  • LOL at the STEREO!

  • wow i would have 4got all about the e_brake lol good gob on keeping ya kool

  • Blimmey lol. Soiled underwear moment, dont you just hate it when the brakes dont work hehe.

  • Good save man... I've been into that turn a number of times carrying atleast 120mph and each time I am quietly praying that my brakes work... It's that straight and the back straight of VIR that make me nervous simply because you have to have 100% confidence in your brakes or you are going to have a nasty crash. Good on you for saving your Suby though!!

  • gotta give it to you man... reasonable reaction. Sorry about the car!

  • lucky one your passenger window was also open and it didnt brake :)

  • Handbrake at high speed= stupid

  • @BuffProductionHD it's just you that's stupid ..

  • 0:31 "well shit..."

  • i've had my brakes go out on the street at 25 mph, that was the scariest thing that i have ever experianced, I can only imagine what it was like for you!

  • @tunerguy82 Yeah, I had a similar situation once. About 30 mph on the street, hit the brake, it goes to the floor and nothing happens... YIKES! I had a blind corner coming up, so I yanked the handbrake and spun the car to stop it.

  • Gutted for you mate, Not sure how else you could of sorted it either...

  • great job keeping your cool

  • I'm surprised you kept your cool after the impact. I would be laying down the F-bomb left and right.

  • why the handbrake ......X_X

  • @MrF1C10 read the description =p

  • Id say ur skills saved u buddy, good job, hope all continues to go well for ur future runs!!!

  • Hey, nice save. What were you driving?

  • @jimhbs85 STi

  • Ignore the armchair racers, great job minimizing the damage.

  • In all honesty you did a fantastic job. You knew that by going sideways you would bleed off more speed than going straight on. Good job and i hope your alright. You hit like 40mph slower than you would have if you had gone straight into it.

  • You turned the wrong way. I didn't say to turn into the wall. I said you should have turned down across the apex. The track is 40-50 feet wide. You left the track before the corner. Had you used the track surface, gone across the apex, you could have used that 40-50 feet of pavement through turn one to scrub more speed.

  • Good job recovering mate, I'd shit my pants in that situation! I was talking to someone the other day about changing my fluid...

  • You my friend did an excelent job trying to save it, good use of handbreak but not lock to avoid spin, and a little flick to hit the tires in the passenger´s side!

  • Hats off to you guy. You managed to remain calm and got yourself in the best ditch out scenario as possible. Takes skills to pull off what you did.

  • why did you put it into neutral ?

  • @erelaxx

probably so physics would take over and friction would slow him down faster than if he was in gear. imo you did a great job controlling the car, it would have been a lot worse.

  • mad driving good try man

  • Good response timing...not a lot of people check their brakes anymore...this is why its important.

  • panic got you

  • Not alot you could of done there mate good job with the efforts you took to minimise the damage. The majority of the critics on this probably drive their toyota camrys fast round intersections thus become racing experts.

  • Nice save. Love the commets coming from people that have probably never even been on a race track. Hitting the tires sideways spreads out the impact causing less damage to the vehicle which you did perfectly. Break failure at high speeds will cause anyones stomach to drop.

  • Glad you hit the tyre wall and didnt end up going towards those trees. Nicely handled - some people don't realise just how fast a crash happens.

  • is your radio still alive looks a bit broken ?

  • Sti right?

  • Stop questioning what he was doing. He did everything right and minimized the damage

  • Dude! You're my hero man...you handled a bad situation brilliantly! =o)

  • Honestly, I think you handled that very well

  • considering the circumstances you did well. nice recovery. You didnt hit the tyres that bad, if it was a noob cunt driving it would have been much worse. Nice one dude.

  • Why he put neutral???? use engine break and your breakes warn you before failure. change you break oil (Motul 600)and good pads before go to this big race ways.

  • @arielv0 I was going for third. Engine braking wasn't going to stop the car though. Did you read my description at all? My failure had nothing to do with my fluid or pads. I'm very happy with my ATE Super Blue and Hawk pads. I've had no issues with my brakes since this incident.

  • @MAZDUHSP33D very smart how you mitigated this crash with the e-brake. not many people would think to do that, and i guess this guy didnt read your description. i love vir, never driven it but love spectating there

  • @MAZDUHSP33D I don't know why you are trying to explain yourself to someone with no concept of the English language. That looked like a nasty hit. Glad you were OK.

  • @arielv0 If not in neutral it could have broken gear box. Mainly if you crash head on though.

  • Why didn't u have the Ebrake on until you stop

  • @Karim1Sauk1dere Because I would have gone spinning around and hit the wall with who knows what part of the car. I didn't want to hit straight on so I turned and yanked the ebrake one more time.

  • I had a brake failure at road atlanta going into 10A. Really nothing you can do and you did the right thing for the situation. Engine brake and ebrake and hope the grass doesnt carry you into a wall. Sucks to see damage to a fellow track guy but hey, everyone will met a wall someday.

  • I have seen this video many times before... I must say you did a great job! Sliding sideways in my opinion saved a lot of damage, especially keeping the air bags from coming out. I watch this video over and over trying to think of what I would have done differently, not much if any. I figure you were doing about 130 mph when you found you didn't have brakes, again great job!!

  • Wow. Best case scenario crash right here. Luckily you east coast guys can off off sideways. Over on the West coast, we go off into dirt or sand, and if we go sideways, we're f*cked.

Glad you're ok man. Any photos of the Subaru afterwards?

  • is it just me, or is that the biggest fuckin rear view mirror ive ever seen?

  • @Rodiak41 Oh they make em bigger... much bigger....

  • The stereo's reaction to the crash is hilarious.

  • so im assuming you put it sideways to help drag off some speed (as the wheels dug in)? what about keeping it on the track a little longer with the e-brake, maybe could take off that little bit more speed? im not saying you didnt do a great job, im just thinking what would be the optimal situation :) i guess optimal would be working breaks, eh? hahaha

  • Brilliantly done! you handled it flawlessly!

i would have just shat myself and probably died... lol

  • props man u actually handled this really well. u got the car almost perfectly sideways to the barrier to maximize energy dispersement and u were watching the hole way until the very end. i personally would not have been able to think this fast

  • well.. at least you got it on film!

  • There is really not much you can do once your on the grass except go for a ride and hope you don't hit anything (especial if the grass is wet its like being on ice).

  • Man, scary. I'll glad you were ok. I just put my vette into the tire wall at CMP a couple months ago (lost it at the kink) and I was also very calm. Car just sitting up on top of the tire wall (back wheels 3 feet off the ground) waiting for the emergency guys to come. I think I was more scared a couple days later when I thought about what could have happened (much worse).

  • what failed on the brakes?

  • @lookout11569 Brake line bracket didn't stay put, which caused the line to shift far enough that it began to rub the wheel. The wheel rubbed enough of the line that when I went for the brakes in this spot, the line burst.

  • Good job, you handled it nicely when you new you were screwed. Ignore the negative comments.

  • damn man, i feel bad for you. glad you're ok

  • Your lucky that you walked away from that. I had the same issue once with the brake line in a autocross event. Pedal fail right at the fin line but was able to stop in the parking lot with the parking brake.

  • he's like "just chillin'" in the end ;)

  • i think i would react in a similar way, but i think i would choose to slide on the right, not the left...

  • @vindicator2008 And hit the wall with the driver side?

  • what was putting it in neutral supposed to do?

  • @orangecrush21 I put it in 3rd in hopes of trying to slow it down with the engine.

  • @MAZDUHSP33D was not 3rd

  • @Pupixario Can you tell me what gear it was then?

  • @MAZDUHSP33D Maybe I am wrong I don't know I was making a comparison with my car sorry :)

  • @MAZDUHSP33D good thing u didn't go to 2nd or 1st because the engine would have blown

  • good job on the touch of the e brake and neutral

  • Wow lucky you did not roll it. going sideways in the grass like that.

  • 0:28 PLEASE INSERT CD INTO PLAYER

  • you should probably stay on the track to reduce your speed and try to stop in the gravel. A crash on the side of the car is dangerous for your neck. A crash on the front is more safe for you but not for your car. But the problem and the reaction to avoid the worst have to be so fast.

Nice save through and glad you're OK.

Hope you will be back on track !!!

    Sorry for my english ;-)

  • maybe cud hav thrown it into a low gear to bring the speed down?

  • man, nice job in saving it man, IMHO that alone makes you an awesome driver that you know how to re act and handle a situation like that at high speeds and make it so you walk away from it!

  • shouldve e-braked right....traction isnt to well on grass.....

  • oh shit. couldnt of put it any better my

    self

  • Great driving mate , you saved the car from alot of damage

  • 0:28, look the CD Player =)

  • @BOTTeamOfficial Lol! now that u have crashed.... what would you like to listen to sir?

  • glad youre okay man. that s***'s scary.

  • why you pull the handbrake so hard and then push it down?

in your shoes i'd kept the handbrake pulled as hard as possible even on grass.. ^_^

    am i right?

  • opps, meant to type 4th gear. either way, im still sure it was north of 100mph.

  • You did a damn good job friend. It wasn't your fault, these things happen in racing. You knew what happened, tried the E-brake, and u also downshifted. You also looked to see were the car was headed and im sure you would have made a correction if there had been a corner worker not paying attention and was in your path. Happy racing mate, these things happen and I hope to see you back on the track soon. Good luck!

  • IMO you did a great job in trying to save it. could've been a hell of a lot worse

  • @MrJdmposer Not really, he turned the wrong way, use the track if you can when. He should have spun the car on the pavement using the greater friction of pavement v/s grass to slow the car if this is his chosen course of action. He still had plenty of room but panicked. You can see the last brake marker passing at 23s. He lost control intentionally before leaving track and hit sideways. It's safer to drive straight in to an impact. This car has almost no safety gear.

  • @robweenerpi I turned the wrong way? There's a wall to the right. I could have kept going straight, but there was no way my e-brake was strong enough to spin the car out on the pavement. I most certainly did panic, but my gut reaction saved the car allowing me to keep driving that weekend and I didn't get hurt. The car had a 4 point roll bar, 5 point harnesses and I was wearing a HANS device. I would have been fine to hit head on, but again I didn't want to damage anything on the front end.

  • @MrJdmposer I agree, great reaction. I too would have tried to avoid the head-on into the tire-wall.

  • did anybody else notice right after he crashed the stereo face slid out.

  • @OUTLAWZPRODUCTIONZ haha it did like!

  • @nevvo

lol, i think it was the cars way of flipping him off.

  • @OUTLAWZPRODUCTIONZ

Yeah I was going to ask if that was a safety feature.

  • similar problem except the opposite direction gas pedal wedged wide open but fortunately it was into turn 4 and i was able to shut it down fast enough phew. guess you got steel brake lines now.

  • damn thats pretty scary, even if you just watch! I glad nothin happened to you!

  • I would of down shifted every gear & pull back the E break slow & not turn

  • @benzguylv yes i think this is the right thing to do, just pull the e brake softly and shift down every gear, he maybe hadn't hit the tires that way. I dont know why he just goes in neutral and rip the e-brake for just a moment????????????

  • @apostolosff Its not that easy at those speeds. He was in the top of 6th, going north of 100mph. When you suddenly lose brakes its not like you have eternity to find a solution. And if anything, the tires is exactly what you want to hit because that is basically the softest things you could hit at a track. At those speeds, screw the car and any damage it sustains. You as a human body want to hit the one thing that will slow you down the slowest.

  • man that was brilliant nice driving, dont think anyone could have done anything else

  • This was my first incident on a road course. I've spun out plenty, but never hit anything before. I wasn't hurt and I've been taught to sit and wait for EV unless the car is on fire, so that's why I didn't immediately start doing anything. What do you mean by 'lose the gear bar' ?

  • @MAZDUHSP33D

So, I'm guessing you promptly ordered a new pair of fire-suit pants........

  • @SlyHobbit Eh, it wasn't that bad. I've had close calls that scared me worse.

  • haha this guy is the calmest guy i saw after crash into wall, the way he lose the gear bar looks like this happens a lot to him lol

  • Dear VIR - PLEASE install some damn sand traps to slow cars down, jesus. nothing but grass so you can WATCH the tire barriers coming to eat your car.

  • the CD pop when he hit the tires :)))

  • Looks scarier inside the car than when you see these outside. Glad it didnt roll. Good job. :)

  • Glad it didn't end your driving weekend, Justin!

  • This actually went pretty well. Good job! This area was using rescue boats a few years ago due to flooding that week.

  • You did a pretty good job considering the speed you are traveling there. Downshift, and grab some e-brake.

Glad it didn't turn out worse because it sure could have been.

  • Nothing worse than the dread of seeing yourself going sideways like that and knowing there's nothing you can do.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw this WRX by the pumps last weekend and was wondering. Either way out of all of the things that could of happened (especially at T1) I think you handled it especially well.
