  • Mavis and Mayfield! Man I can't take it. What a bass line and the subtle string arrangements

  • Classic sound. Always loved Mavis and The Staple singers! I love this song so much...I just ordered the soundtrack. They don't do it like this no mo!!!!!

  • Thats what im talkin bout

  • MAN, I LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • I'M DOWN FOR A "PIECE THE ACTION"...

  • I'M DOWN FOR A "PIECE THE ACTION...

  • so under played, should have 500,000 views!!!

  • This song was so funky and soulful. I can remember hearing this song over and over in my house. Man, why are we black people so darn soulful?! LOL

  • This song is downright soulful. It has the ability to put you on those 9 to 5 feet and make you shake your booty in ways where people will say, "You stank". With all laughs aside, this song is fun, deep and sensual, due to the music of Curtis Mayfield and the singing of Mavis Staples. This was indeed, a great collaboration.

  • What can I say.........delicious,delicious,delicious,delicious,delicious,delicious,delicious,delicious,delicious.........a piece, a piece, got some news for ya, can be funky for ya', slap my bootie for ya', bump the bootie for ya'........!!!!!!

  • I LIKE

  • i cant stop grooving in my kitchen, pancakes anyone?

  • I can't believe this joint only got to#47 on the R&B charts in 1977! what a classic! What could have been the other 46 songs that was better than this?

  • UHHOHH IS THAT MR. MAYFIELD I HEAR IN THE BACKGROUND??? DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THEN THIS???

  • A piece of the Action. One of the best soul sounds ever made!

  • Wow; never heard this song outside of the movie!!! Never really paid attention 2 it. Now I gotta listen 2 Uptown Saturday Night (Thanks Ma 4 passing your childhood on to me! =) )

  • Real music. Feel good music. Make you want to clean the house and dance music,lol.. I love it.

  • Mavis laying it down with funky style! Still my favourite OST hit from the Poitier & Cosby trilogy of Uptown Saturday Night, Let's Do It Again and "A Piece Of The Action".

From an era where music was all about the vocal talent, the musical genius and not how much flesh or booty you can get into your video: a time when artists only needed radio.

There's no school like the 'Old School'.

  • Still got what she had since the STAX period !

  • Mavis was the epitome of soul!!!!! Her grunts and moans were just! Whitney who? Singers back then were distinct and worked what they had. Patti, Gladys, Aretha etc... secularly anyway. Gospel has always been distinctive and created those types of singers. Which is were the aforementioned singers came from.

  • great song

  • Voice like water......Gwarn mavis ...Proper material.......Nice One Dantoine93.

  • @filthyfunke - dang finally someone who thinks like me. I am no fan of slow or falling in love music. It's all about funk for me!

  • A pure classic!!! For those who don't know the composer, arranger, writer for this classic is no other than Curtis Mayfied!! Check out his early and solo work...and the soundtrack to The movie "Claudine"...the man was a genius!!!

  • @Vonslik69 genius is a under statement

  • PURE SOUL MUSIC AT ITS BEST!!!!!

  • as much as it pains me personally, gotta admit that after this song it was okay that funk faded out, cos this song really got it all. forget about it - sublime.

  • funky delicious:)

  • So much soul.......the well is truly dry today.....

  • I loved the movie in the 80's, but as of today this is the first time I've heard the original song. Thanks.

  • This has so much soul. I wish I was around then, it's sexy without being slutty

  • I LOVE this song. Curtis Mayfield did his thing when he wrote and composed this song.

  • I do agree with you when it comes to the music Filthyfunke, but I'm a old school girl and the people that texronox named are all good. I love Musiq and Anthony Hamilton and Jill Scott. They are actually good and Textronix forgot one of my favorites.. Maxwell.. He's damn good!!!

  • @filthyfunke

I wouldn't say that. Musiq has a style like Stevie Wonder, And when Jill came out 10 years ago people called her the new Aretha Franklin.

  • I gotta agree with ol dude below me. I bettcha tha 70s was off tha chain. We need a time machine.

  • WHERE DID THIS MUSIC GOOOOO ?????

i wish i born these times when their was bangers like dis!!!!!

  • I have and they are great. As well as D`Angelo, Maxwell and others. It`s just if it`s not auto-tune or being raunchy it doesn`t get the exposure it deserves. The charts used to be dominated by talent that was original. I avoid the radio when it comes to current music. Thank goodness for You Tube and Media Player, etc.

  • Soul music will never be the same. This was the end of an era. I can`t believe I was able to experience such great music growing up. What a priviledge!!!

  • you must have never heard of Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott and the others

  • Yes Sirrr, ONE TIME FOR DA OL' SKOOL

  • Delicious Delicious delicious.....Yeeeeaaahhhhh Niggggaaaassss !!!!

  • NOTHIN SHAKIN BUT THE BACON

  • Mavis+Mayfield = FUNKALICIOUS!!

  • WOW, leave it to Mavis to sing lyrics that you dont quite understand. Check 3:34. What is that? But its funky!

  • I dont know either, but I can dig it!!!

  • Don't forget the 'delicious main attraction' lyrics too!

  • She said ..."He RIDING DA JONES ON THA SHOW

  • No...what she ACTUALLY said was: "E. Rodney Jones on the show." E. Rodney Jones was a popular DJ in Chicago back in the '70's.

  • That's just what it is. Funky!!!

  • Mavis puts chills in me singing this

  • Sheryl Lee Ralph was in this movie quote(my ass bleeds for you). I have this on vinyl, does anyone know if it's available on cd? And this song sounds like mr. welfare man from claudine.Picture aretha singing this back in the day she probaly did at one of her concerts doin a cover of it

  • I mean Curtom Story

  • Okay, I have been searching for this song my entire life! My mom took me to see this film when I was a kid and I loved this song. I never heard it again until now. Mavis betta SANG! Curtis Mayfield was a genius.

  • The soundtrack was available on amazon...and also this song is on the Curton Story anthology.

  • Thanks for the heads up! I just purchased it.

  • de-li-cious!!!!

  • A Delicious Main Attraction!!

  • Finally! I have been hoping that this was added to Youtube. Does anyone have Coochie Coochie Coochie from this album. I love Mavis. Like Prince said, her voice is the epitome of SOUL!!! Here Here Mavis!!!

  • #47!? That's a CRIME!

  • That's the joint right there!! The dance scene at the end of the movie, classic soul, that's us.

  • So true.....that movie never gets old....especially that last scene!

  • Never gets old indeed. At the end of the movie i put on the surround sound and dance with my 2 year old, she loves soul music just like her old man.

  • That's so sweet. You and your daughter.

Isn't music wonderful when it's done right.

And that scene is like black unity captured on film.

    I love it.

  • Thank you!

No doubt!! Black Love!! I might have to watch it again tonight!! lol

  • funky

  • One of the greatest songs ever produced. This is when there was black unity and things were better in the World. Now we have a failing economy and America is on the decline, but after listening to this classic I feel much better. Thanks for posting and Thank God for Old School music and artist.

  • I wish someome would post Chocolae City and Koochie Koochie Koochie from the piece of the action albun, those cuts are the shit!
