@farstarfilms - Technically speaking - all you would need to do is buy and install or upgrade to a 64bit operating system. The Core i7 CPUs are 64bit based. You'll also need to make sure that there are 64bit version drivers available for your system as well.
WoW64 is native to most 64bit versions of Windows Operating Systems. It's basically an emulator of sorts. It allows you to install and run 32bit applications on a 64bit platform.
why does Microsoft make it so technical and inaccesible? there should be an icon on the desktop saying if a system is 32 bits or not. there should be a built in Anti Virus icon too!
Here's the results if you don't want to sit through the video before commenting!
Same PC running Vista 64bit so these results are comparable, i.e. this is the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit Vegas on the "same" PC.
Vegas 8.0c 32bit = 4m 35s
Vegas 8.1 64 bit = 4m 13s
Older PC running XP. This is not comparable to the above, it only shows the gain in going from a Dual core 3Ghz AMD system to a Quad Core 2.83Ghz Intel system above.
These benchmarks are completely invalid. The two systems have FAR too many differences to compare. Two completely different OSes (comparing Vista to XP is likely enough to change the results slightly) one system has twice the RAM, not only do the processors have different speeds, one has more cores and is based on a completely different family.
But he does acknowledge that fact near the bottom of the great comment tree, so I suppose it's no big deal :)
Thanks for relying, and yes, fortunatedly I know a little bit what is it about, but... I have a little problem... Do you know why do a program indicates me incompatibility with my sistem? It says that there is a problem about the system x64 because the program is for x86.
I believe any 64bit version of Vista contains WoW64. It's what allows you to install and run 32bit programs and applications on your 64bit Windows based PC. It's an emulator basically -
Ok, I see. This guy has two different systems, 1 is 32-bit, and the other is 64-bit.. He is trying to compare what is faster, 32 or 64-bit. Never mind completely different testing environments.
Apples to Oranges.
Hey dummy, if you would have done all 3 tests on 1 machine, either one, you'd get similar results.
nice tests but the results are not accurate since you ran them on different hardware. And you might want to lay out the results in the description section.
ok I have a Gateway laptop MD7818u Intel Core 2 Duo Laptop with 4GB of RAM and i was wondering if I can upgrade the ram to like 12GB or 6GB , Also when i bought my laptop it says it has 500GB and when i Check for the memory storage section it has two separate Hard Disks one says OS and the one Says Data but I dont know if you can combine them to have one main hard drive.
My main problem is that I used Sony Vegas 9.0 Pro with a no good Celeron that has a single processor, and when I render a video it took like 1 hour, 20 minutes, 30 seconds. With Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 & Nvidia GT 200, the video will be rendered in less than 5 minutes & 10 seconds.
if you play a lot of video games, then ^$-bit because it allows you to have over 4GB of RAM. The maximum with 32-bit is 4, while on the 64-bit you can go to over 12 (depending on the motherboard)
In my notebook I have Samsung branded 3Gb DDR2 800 Ram (6-6-6-18)and I am running 64Bit Windows 7. Do you think I should upgrade to OCZ 4Gb (5-5-5-15)? I mean would it make any difference? Thanks in advance
so these comparisons are on different systems? I'd like to see a comparison on the same system, one running windows 32 and another running windows 64.
Yes, this was done on different systems at time sort of spur of the moment. I'd definitely get a more accurate performance rating if this was conducted on a single testing platform with both versions of the same OS. I may revisit test this year or if I come across a 32bit version of Vista I can trial on an extra hard drive.
I can only base my opinion on Vista 64bit because that's the OS I own personally. I haven't had any major issues with it so far - a few minor ones though. The real problem I have is the lack of true 64bit applications out there - over half the applications I run are running under 32bit but that isn't Microsoft's fault though. In regards to XP 64bit - the biggest problem is the lack of driver support for it from what I've been told. That is why I went with Vista 64
If your motherboard has support for that much then technically speaking - yes. Unfortunately though - 32bit will only recognize a maximum of 4GB and that may or may not require some tweaking in the OS. Normally 3.5GB would be the maximum recognized by your OS - if we're talking about Windows.
So your version of Vista is 64bit? If so that is good news but you still have to make sure your hardware can support 8GB of RAM. What kind of computer are you looking to upgrade?
If you buy the retail version of Vista Ultimate you're supposed to get both 32bit and 64bit versions in the same packaging but they both have their own unique product keys. I participated in one of the Windows Feedback Programs and I got it for free.
I was impressed with performance gains too. Those times were based on HD footage, so I'd imagine that rendering SD footage would be just as impressive. I really like using Vegas Pro so I'm really looking forward to the next release as well.
Actually Vista 64 is able to determine what code [32bit or 64bit] the application is and run/install it accordingly on it's own. The user isn't really able to change how the application will be executed.
No you can't. 32bit Vista and 64bit Vista are separate operating systems. Best case scenario would be the possibility of running a dual boot setup. The caveat to that would be the amount of RAM you have in your system because as you know - with 32bit systems the highest amount of RAM available would 3.5GB. In the end it wouldn't make much sense to have both since 64bit Vista will run 32bit most applications in emulation quite well.
Good vid. I know one thing, Cinebench seems to speed up at least by 10-15% when on a 64 bit system. I've also heard Photoshop CS4 making some big gains when in 64bit mode.
Thanks!! I'm looking at picking up the After Effects CS4 upgrade towards the end of this month. I can't wait. AE CS3 renders on my 32bit system take forever.
IridiumVIII, great vid what do I need to buy or download to make 32 bit run like 64bit ? I am thinking of buying a i7-640M dual core that has 32bit.
Thanks so much,
MD

Why are you comparing 32 bit and 64 bit when the 64 bit system has more power than the 32 bit system hardware wise anyway? -_-

They work faster, as can be seen from the results posted above. The load is the same.
