  • Manchester Pride is a positive celebration. I would imagine the main reason there was a negative reaction from the officials is because of this fact, tho I'm sure there was an element of 'censor'-fever with the officials.

Making a 'statement' about the authenticity of the high charge of the wrist band and where the money may or may not be going doesn't really have a place on the actual day of the festival & actually 'on' the parade itself. It's not an appropriate thing to do.

  • Well, the easiest way of dealing with those whom value 'avarice' above the true concept of 'Pride', is simply boycott it and go elsewhere. That will make them think again. But no one does and these people know it, hence they will continue to charge whatever they want. Why should I have to pay to go into a pub in Canal Street? To hell with it.

  • the money raised at pride goes towards organisation, security, electricity bills and towards charities such as HIV programmes and [ironically] youth charities.

i think you're picking holes in the gay movement where there are none.

we're fucking lucky we even have pride without people like you making us look bad.

  • did you try this again a this years festival

  • Love Pride and i dont mind payin as i know it goes to charitys an plus it stops any riff raff and people who hate gay and lesbian people we can be free in the village @ pride time without being judged or harrassed :]

  • Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!

  • Its funny that what started as a protest event is now being protested against itself. The organisers should understand that events give opportunities for people to protest - its the basics of events management and was how this event came about in the first place. A much less deal of it all would have been made if the organisers would just let these youths carry on with what they wanted to do as long as they conducted themselves in a proper and non-intrusive manner.

  • Well Done! Its about time the 'Grasping' elements of Manchester's Pride were shown for what they are. Gay/Lesbian+Pride = £££££ is so wrong. Its almost like paying a protection racket....

  • Hi Nigel Martin Smith from Essential, even an AIDS Vigil can be fliered for punters, so why not ask ya minions to keep their class prejudices to themselves. Ta for ya honesty in implying that ticketed entry is designed to keep out working class people, as we weren't all born with silverspoons in our mouths - or elsewhere!

  • These kids should be ashamed...they obviously dont have a clue!!!...

actually was quite wound up by the f**kers ... its in the city centre...unfortunately manchester can not be like soho or Brighton..if you want a pride full of skanks ,waifs and strays that will detrimentally damage the pride we know and love..then yes make it free...i personally would love to put my size 12 platform boots up your arses...get a clue ...shame on you

    Ms Rhoda Hoarse

  • Rhoda, ignorance and aggression is part of the problem. Attidues like yours perpetuate the hostility that exists within "the village" which the pride parade also seems to exhibit. Feel free to "put your size 12 platform boots" up my arse. You are obviously someone who feels violence and intimidation is the only way to solve things, how sad.

  • STOP PRESS! Chinese government are looking for new "outdoor event control managers" to beat, bully and censor the great unwashed into submission... I think Jackie has all the credentials for the job! Gay Shame! Police did the same thing at Stonewall, riots ensued and some of us still fight for queer liberation... Stop Campaigning, Start Consuming - Jackie has spoken!

  • Another anonymous profile? Would comment on your videos, but you have none and appear to have no friends or subscribers... Maybe we'll see the heavily edited HDV footage of the Parade one day (did the NHS pay for that also?!) but in the meantime, all you need is a camera, computer and internet connection to expose political censorship and the oppressed becoming the oppressors - Gay Shame!

  • If you're going to pick something apart try doing it armed with the facts as you just make yourself sound uninformed and hostile with only one intention other than to comment on the actually video.

  • Interesting how leatherpup may be protesting at this when she was in fact seen in the pride womens space the very next day....hmmmm....hypocrital.

Dont you have anything better to do with your time then protest against actually raising money. Grow up people and understand the real world

  • "Leathepup" is infact a man and was not at the Women's Space, that would have been impossible. Neither was in at the Big Weekend. Even if anyone else seen in the video did go along and enjoy the Big Weekend, well doesn't that make her even more positioned to be critical of the event? The Parade entry in the video was an OFFICIAL PRIDE entry and has been for many years. Protesting against profiteering isn't the same as being "anti-pride" people can attend if they wish, even if they are critical

  • Maybe a forum on the pride website is the way to hear from ALL parties involved with Manchester Pride, Ive been suggesting it for the past 4 years ??

  • im so getting on your next float

i work fuking hard and i had to save up weeks to go this years pride my first one and now im skint

not only that but the prejudice i recieved for not looking like a lesbian was unbelievable

    keep up the good work

    kay

  • Hi Wynnie, lots of people would welcome that, unfortunately a you have probably encountered.. "Manchester Pride" themselves (or at least the vampires who have hijacked it!) feel they are above criticism and will not engage in a public debate that holds them to account fully informed of all the facts which they cannot simply censor or walk away from. Keep up your fight to get a message board on the Pride website, Julia Grant placed on on the Manchester GayFest website many moons ago!

  • articwolf, go do some research. Everyone knows about the charity element, but since when did charity become a byword for legitimate? the way the funds are distributed is well dodgy and unfair to say the least. naming no names but the charities that do get money from Manchester Pride already have massive incomes. many charities have had to close down due to proposed funds from pride that have been swallowed up by the big boys....

Manchester Pride has become a private party.

  • could not agree with you more pride is a rip off . does anyone see the accounts of pride , pride is now for people with such big heads who happen to think there it, they make me mad.

  • Er hello? Is there none of you that has clicked on the fact that Manchester Pride is a CHARITY???!!! It doesn't make profit, it pays it's bills like any charity and the rest goes to various good causes, yours obviously not being one. You don't complain when the Great North Run charge £20+ entry cos you know it's going to a good cause. Manchester Pride is one of the only pride's that does this and it's one of the few in the country that hasn't gone bankrupt, but not if you lot get your way.

  • as one who was at the first GAy Pride Picnic in Hyde Park in theearly 1970's, I commend the youth in Manchester for their stand against profiteers, Gay Pride began as a free picnic , it is so sad that the current organisers have lost sight of the roots of Gay Pride, I am pleased that the youth have not , more power to you all .

  • what is free speech now thought pride ceo should be sack!! the young gay & lesbian our future should not be bullies in any way like our sydney gay & lesbian madri gras but we work together for young & old from all walks of life was well

  • It's horrible that anyone should be treated in this way at a Pride event. Particularly young people who may be taking part for the first time.

Congratulations to those who stood up to the bullies and especially to that young woman who sat on the banner! Love the bit of you all dancing past the judges on Princess Street with slogans fully on show.

    Love the p

  • well.... I hear the Pride Not Profit and Pride is a Protest movement are planning a massive float for next year!

  • Haha... you do know you're not getting in that parade again, don't you? ;)

Oh and there was a terrible misprint this year... instead of "Manchester Pride '08" it was supposed to read "Manchester Profit '08"!

  • The Pride 'leaders' are doing the job of oppressors - first of all queers, and second queer youth in particular. How fucking dare they try to take those placards? It really shows how insecure they are, and with good reason.

  • Nice one!
