Cant find a cheap rooter gate anywhere, although I have seen some awesome ones but they are nearly 500 dollars! Any suggestions cant find Kerrville rooter gate anywhere
They only headgates I've seen for that kind of money are made out of aluminum! I've seen some pretty good ones at places like Tractor Supply (haven't tried one), and you can order a good looking double door (salon door) headgate from Forestry Suppliers (haven't seen one in person, or used one, though).
Dr Gallagher, thanks for the video. I was able to build one including the rooter gate from your video. Caught our first hog a couple of weeks ago. Nice job to Jacob and Chancey as well.
We used a "Kerrville rooter gate". Many Farm & Ranch stores sell them, but finding a good one can be tough! If you would rather do it yourself, there are a couple good diagrams in "Feral Hogs in Texas" which you can order or download from the AgriLife Bookstore. Just Google "AgriLife Bookstore" then put "Feral Hogs in Texas" in the search box at the Bookstore website. Good luck!
Based on some other work we are doing, most hogs can't get over a fence that is more than 2 feet tall. The reason we like the round corral traps is that there are no corners for them to pile up in, and they seldom go over the top. Sometimes you do find a young hog that will climb, though!
