Opeth wanted Heritage to be different. If you've watched his interviews and listened to most of their records you'd probably know. They make each album unique and different to what they previously released. Mikael says they never want to go mainstream and this is how they do it.

I think what Mikael's trying to say is how much he is a fan of Alice and other 70's albums, not the directly/conscious influence some might expect. It's also obvious that he feels the need to change and evolve as an artist. I like Heritage and expect a great live show to follow.I will be seeing them live this week and look forward to both the new and old songs!

I was 21 in 1993 and stopped visiting record stores around that time because vinyl had pretty much vanished from the shelves, even hear in Finland. Little did I know that I could have found them dirt cheap in second hand shops - wish I'd had a music geek like Mikael around to tell me about them, lol... Good for him to stick with vinyl when it looked destined to become a dead format of music.
