  • One of these day music companies will realize that putting a song on a video is FREE advertising! And making it unavailable (or taking it off) will just make the consumer not want to purchase anything from said music company bc it makes them lose respect from the consumer... It really upset me that this work of art you created has to be EDITED and ruined because of big corporations...

  • those were the days

  • Fucking You Tube Nazis. I'm getting tired of this Copyright bullshit

  • WHAT THE FUCK! BRING BACK TRAFFIC!

  • What the Hell happened to the music?! This totally blows chunks. Where is Mr. Fantasy? This USED TO be a kick-ass video. Now it is repulsive.

  • This sure "SUCKS" with this crap music. The original was awesome!

  • Brought back a lot of memories. I used to drag race a 69 Roadrunner back in the day. Wish I could go back.

  • Yay!!! it works!!! sweet!!!

  • Ahmen ...Boycott WMG. I will play Mr Fantasy on another screen good idea.

  • Do you have the original vid saved on file??? if yes could you send it, or even burn to disc, as i would love to watch with the original music, was my favourite vid on the tube till music was ripped off!

Can even hear it in my head while watching it! makes me sad when the little thing we enjoy in life are taken due to red tape!

  • Hey :D

First Thank you for this great video! I wish I lived back in that time....

I saw the vid a couple of months back, and I really like the music on the original post... Could you PLEASE tell me what the songs were??

Dick Landy Is my absolute hero!!

Thank you and Greetings from the netherlands!!

  • I mute the sound on this video, and open a second one with "Dear Mr Fantasy" playing. WMG can fuck off. Their actions only make me less inclined to buy music.

  • This was the BEST video on youtube but some JERKS , no scumbag money grubing whores took the original soundtrack off. Thank you drilsgt98th!

  • Great video!! Not so great music... Where's Dick Landy's voice? I'd like to hear the CARS too!

  • dude , check my other vids for the original cut of the documentary. dick landy speaks quite a bit in it.

as for the music....we can all thank warner music group for pulling the original songs off of it.

  • all the new laptop "drivers" could only aspire to be 1/4 (pun intended) the driver Dandy Dick Landy was and still is in my eyes. automatics have nothing on him. any moron can make one of them shift . may i always be blessed with the left leg disease "clutchitis"

CARBURETORS ,PUSHRODS , BIG PISTONS AND 4 SPEEDS FOREVER !!

  • so this morning i was at the deli getting breakfast and i hear on the noisebox "mr fantasy". so all day while i was working on my Duster and Dart , all i could think about was getting home to watch this video with the excellent choice of music and W.T.F.!!!!!!!!!! this is by far the best video out there and now it has lost some of its feel. i will forever remember that song for this. SARGE , thanks for the best video on the internet and for your service and sacrifice for our country.

  • its amazing how much has changed since then. those cars look so flimsy. (awesome but not safe) You can't do a burnout from the lanes to the line, we've moved the starter back behind the cars. No one uses armco rail anymore. Its like a saw. but I suppose the biggest difference is no one names their car any more. now its "our royal purple, summit racing pontiac" and it used to be "watch out for BLUE THUNDER". That was something a kid could fall in love with.

  • What happened to the traffic? Fucking you tube.

  • SHAME ON ME!! this is the first time I've seen this!!!!!! dang sure NOT the last! GREAT POST!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what the hell this video's music used to be mr. fantacy by traffic....what the hell is this? awesome video....but better with appropriate music :)

  • To drillsgt98th, After giving you this footage I like it. Only because you and I have a passion for old school. To all that have have seen this video it was taped off of espn in the early 90's buy me and was forgotten until now. Drill you did a ok job, Jbee

  • drillsgt98th ?? Can you upload this video again and maybe they won't catch it right away or is this going too far?? If WMG is thiss stuck up I don't think I want any of their music from now on!!

  • What happened to Traffic's Dear Mr Fantasy soundtrack ??

  • yes my friends, they removed all the soundtracks. nothing i can do about it. all i have left is the vids with the original audio which is hosted here on youtube.

  • @drillsgt98th what i do is open two windows one plays dear mr fantasy and the other your video muted works perfect

hey drillsgt98th dear mr fantasy goes so well with this video its a shame they removed the soundtrack and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

    USA #1

  • @drillsgt98th What an awesome video. I run dear Mr fantasy in another browser while I watch this. There's something about the combination of that song and watching Dandy Dick Landy pound through the gears that almost brings tears to my eyes. The good old days! Thankyou!

  • I watch this video about once a month and now there's no soundtrack? Can't believe this copyright junk. Welcome to our new economy my friends.

  • about once every two weeks for me.

  • Crap!!!!!!! Best video on Youtube

  • I can't believe they removed the audio. The music is 40 years old! I wonder who is protecting Beethovens interest everytime any of his music is replayed?

  • SOOO awsome, make me wish i was around during those times...

  • someone want to chat

  • what's the song?

  • Dear Mr.Fantasy by Traffic

  • Great !!!

  • Inspiring stuff! Musics pretty cool too.

  • jrsn2guitars are you talking about the same sox and martin that runs at great lakes dragway now? There is a older mopar called sox and martin that runs there.

  • there are many copy / tribute cars made to sox and martin mopars. most of the originals are now either destroyed or in museums.

  • Friend of mine has a real documented 67 Sox & Martin car.

  • Simply the BEST Muscle Car Video on the You Tube!!!

Congratulations and thanks for sharing this whith us!!

  • How cool is Dick Landy smoking a cigar while driving down the 1320 slamming in the gears!! Excellent footage!

  • ...and Grumpy Jenkins, can't forget him, still smokes those cigars today!!

  • @68SSCAM He never smoked it.Story is that one day someone gave him a cigar, and he put it in his mouth, and never lit it,but was never seen without it.Basically he had an unlit cigar in his mouth at all times.

  • I was at the US Nationals at Indy the first year of the Pro Stock class. I'll never forget the sight of those cars pulling up to stage, doing three or four dry hops before staging. They looked like a bunch of leap frogs! It was so cool! They don't do that anymore. Ronnie Sox won the first pro stock race at the US Nationals in his beautiful Sox and Martin Hemi Barracuda. Check out the pictures and movies that I took at that race. Great video! Great music! Thanks for the compliment on my video.

  • Thank you very much , this is great song.

  • in czech is only one dragster ( Big Red Team ) ford 32 body with BBC 1000 HP and as truck is International Harvester school bus with red color, dragster have bad driver and times is very very slow

  • The second song in the film is Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.

  • The second music is: Simon and Garfunkel - Sound of Silence.

The first music is: Traffic - Mr. Fantasy.

For me, the best video and the best sound in one package is here!!

    Congratulations drillsgt98th!!!

  • great video. you cant beat the old race cars for looks and sheer horsepower

  • One of the best videos on youtube! Fond memories ,good music, cant beat it. Post as many as you wish!!!!

  • Defo my favourite vid ever, watch it constantly! should use the same music with other footage, its perfect with it! well done on a perfect capturing job, i want to be there.

  • The site of those clips is at Ontario Motor Speedway in Cal. So that would be the Supernationals, the year would be 1970 as Garlits switched to a rear engone car in 71 unless thats a short clip from another strip. Thanks for uploading it. It brings back fond memories of those racers and that era when I was a teen. I wish more people would upload.

  • its 1971 and it says in the vid its OMS. check the other versions i have of it. its a documentary with the date imposed on it. i dont think theyd shot the documentary with the wrong date on it. glad you like.

  • garlits debuted his revolutionary swamp rat XVI at the winternationals in 1971. You can see a short clip of one of Garlits older front engine cars in that video which did not run in 1971. They must have used footage from a variety of races then at OMS. In the video description you typed "Summernationals" However the "Summernationals" were only held at Englishtown NJ. The only national events held at OMS (Ontario Motor Speedway) were called the 'Supernationals"

  • absolutely, it is the supernats, when i posted this i typed in the wrong thing. even the narrator in the original version says it the supernats. that part was my fault.

  • Whats song is this????

  • "Dear Mr. Fantasy" by Traffic. 1967.

  • Thank You... Nice song? Just never knew you sang it... :)

  • Go to Beaver Springs Dragway north of York, Pennsylvania on Sunday, July 13th (this Sunday) and you will see this live. It is the Nostalgia Super Stock Nationals. Tons of vintage Super Stock cars and early Funny Cars.

  • I would love to find a copy of the original where you can hear the cars and hear what Dick Landy is saying. I met him several years ago. What a great guy.

  • i have the original. should i post it?

  • Yes. That would be great.

  • thanks for all the responses. im glad you all love it as much as i do. this footage was on a lost vhs tape that i received from my friend joe. these are my heroes, men from a greater time.

  • best video on youtube

  • What a fantastic video!

I remember most of those cars.

Please post more videos if you can.

    5 Stars......... awesome!

  • Great video! Thanks. Also the music is right.

  • that era of racing is what its all about no throttle stops just pure heads up racing racers of today wouldnt have the balls to drive those cars

  • You said the pure truth patanneranner!

We never knew what we HAD, till we lost it!

  • one of the main reasons im putting a 4 speed back in my car. because thats the way they are supposed to be./ when drivers could drive and not just push buttons and hang on for an air shifted ride. :D

  • Hell yeah. I heard that Ronnie Sox actually slowed down when he put an auto in his pro stocker, he was such a fantastic driver.

  • thanks sarge, truly a film of legends. more please!

  • ecellent video. i cant stop watching it.

  • I was 7 or 8 months old in the summer of 1971...and my father had a car than...good video

  • Thanks for showing it the way that it used to be. I miss the 70s the 80s,That was the best drag racing. When our cars where all diffrent.

Chevy Ford Dodge Amc and so on and so on.

  • The B E S T of the B E S T!

Thank you and many greetings form Germany!

    Marcus

  • awesome video!!!

    great video

  • awesomeeee. i was born and raised racing =] started racing jrdragsters at 8 and stepped up to the 68' fastback stang when i was 17! thanks pops =] 'if you're not gaming the tree, you have no game!'

  • i can remember going too that same drag strip, ontereo motor speed way when i was a kid man i loved those days when the floppers did there short hop and along with prostock those were the days.

  • Nice power shifting

  • And i cant see one single import.Nice

  • Amen to that. Those were the days. Thanks for the great video.

  • When the Cuda's and the Challenger's were the new ones on the market...

When the classic rock was all the soundtrack for such things...

When the engines were as big, as today's Japanese cars...

    These were the days!

  • OUTSTANDING!!

    the good old days!

    reg light bulbs.

    Real cars!

    What a era!

  • woooooo!!! what is the first song? great!!!!

  • Dear Mister Fantasy by Traffic. Great song. I like the Big Sugar remake too.

  • wonderfull stuff nothing is like the heyday of super stock

  • Awesome vid thanks for posting it! Great footage.... things will never be like that again but we can all have our fun!

  • would have liked to hear some of the real sounds of the racing

  • The golden age of drag racing for sure. Watching Dick Landy banging the gears is something else. His left foot is a blur when hitting that clutch.

  • There is nothing better than watching old musclecars drag racing. thanks

  • pro stocks that were actually stock bodies.....what a concept!

  • Crossover delay? Trans brake? Stutter box? They never heard of them. Drag racins was much simpler back then...and dare I say better.

  • what an awesome video !! ...thanx

You can see a live performance of this exact song, done by the original guy (Steve Winwood) in July 2007 at the Crossroads Guitar Festival... watch?v=Awjvm_-72Us

  • even as a die hard bowtie freak i must admit those mopars ruled the strip and nobody can take that awy from them

  • amazing and wonderfull. one of the best vids i know!

  • awesome footage!!!.."kingfish cuda" was baddass..anybody remember the "sassy gremlin" driven by paul pittman??...it was in the gasser class.

  • Awesome vid. Great footage.

  • A time when Pro-Stocks and Funny Cars looked like street driven cars, not like some freakin turtle shelled UFO crap they race now!

Yo Greg, Jeg, Conally .etc. lets see ya grab a four speed and win every week like they used to do!!!!!!! MOPAR FOREVER!!!!!

R.I.P. Ronnie & Dick you will never be replaced!

Actually, I think it's the '70 World Finals at Ontario (Calif.)

  • The best video on youtube. PERIOD!

  • wow gives me real chicken skin!

i've dreamed to build a real doorslammer

and when i vieuw this movie it gives me te strenght

but from who is this music??

  • "Dear Mr. Fantasy" by Traffic, from the album of the same name, 1967.

  • dragway park

  • WOW - AWSOME! THX A LOT!

You made my week! The spirit of the 70ies is written all over it... just great!

    Rgds from Switzerland

  • Excellent vintage footage of a great period in drag racing. One quick correction, however. This was not shot at the SummerNationals (as sub-title suggests); most, if not all, appear to be at the World Finals at Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario, California, a track more famous for hosting the California 500, a USAC (Indy car) race. The track lasted from 1970 til 1980.

  • What is the name of the song and the artist who sings?

  • steve winwood & traffic - dear mister fantasy

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks for making & posting this! I've made more than a few quarter mile passes myself, and my friends and family can never understand the beauty of this sport.

This one really takes me back... the drivers working on their own cars... shifting that 4-speed... and smoking a cigar the whole time!

  • THAT WAS A GREAT VIDEO THANKS.

  • wow u know common sence stuff....i realyl wish i could find more old nostalgia video like this with the audio of the cars

  • that guy with the cigar was dick landy. the cigar was a trademark of his, as well as building kick-ass hemis

  • I love the shot at 3:05 of the driver slamming gears with a cigar clenched in his teeth! Now that is style. :) Man, those were the days. Nothing like buring rubber, racing fuel, and chest pounding engine noise.

  • Damn right, that was awesome!

  • Great video, you should make one of these for the Trans Am racing of old.

  • great video/ blues. "Can ya here me Kowalski"

  • oh thank you thank you! Amazing! MAde my day!

  • How can I get a copy of this video? Bill AKA DESOTOHEMIBILL

  • Finally an old video with appropriate music. Very nice.

Back in the days when Pro Stock cars were not funny cars and funny cars actually looked like cars!

  • back when cars were cars and people actually had to drive instead of relying on electronics and slush boxes.

  • some nice cars back then.

  • 10 out a 10, so cool

    thanks for the vid...

  • Bloody cool vid....well done!

  • check out the king or queen of green contest! start a revolution!

  • Please, tell me the name of the first song in this video? thanks

  • Which the name of the music that touches in this video?

  • someone pls tell me the name of the last song in this video? thanks

  • Simon And Garfunkel › The Sound Of Silence

  • Truly awesome! Its sad to think a lot of the pioneers of drag racing are gone, the talent & technology these icons have shared with us and the entertainment will live on as long as we keep it alive.

  • Lots of memories, great nostalgia, good old days, too bad the sound was not with it, well done nonetheless.

  • wicked video, I was born in the wrong decade...haha, whats the song playing in the background?

  • hey corey....my name is jay and i too was born in the wrong decade. lol....the name of that song is "Mr. Fantasy" by traffic

  • rock on

  • Awesome. The glory days of Super Stock when the cars were factory cars, not like now with a bunch of custom bodies all powered by MOPAR-based HEMIs while pretending to be Fords, Chevys, or whatever. Don't get me wrong. I love the NHRA today too, I just prefer cars that are closer to what we can actually own. I would like it even more with the original sound of the cars and the commentary from legends like Dick Landy. Awesome video indeed.

  • Yes... I know exactly what you mean. Back in those days, we went up to the line with both our works AND out ideas.

  • Thanks so much for that video, so hard to find that stuff. I love it. Cheers

  • I wish I were born in 56 not 76,That way I coulda been a teenager back when these cars were plentiful, and the music was awesome.Drag racing today is a pale cold lifeless comparison to what wnent on back in the day.

  • Awesome man . Memories just keep flashing in my head

Thanks for the kick in the pants

  • The guy with the cigar is "Dandy" Dick Landy, who passed away a couple of weeks ago....

  • The song is Mr. Fantasy by Traffic, featuring Steve Winwood on vocals....

  • What's the song ??? It's so freakin' coool !!!

  • Wow ! Nice video ! (but ... no mustang ;) )

  • Thats because Fud didnt win a damn thing back in the late 60's and early 70's in SS or Pro stock....

    MOPAR or no car!!

  • Wow! Really Nice.

  • Very well done. But it's really dating my age. And we'll never see rhese times again. Miss them big time. Don't much care for the direction Drag racing is going these days. (nopi)

  • real racing man tuned with ear drums not computer data

  • Landy @ sox were the men, old skool

  • ahhhh love those times, if only i got some props.

  • Just awesome. Thanks for all the old memories.

  • nice stuff keep it coming

  • awsome thank you

  • The footage of Landy along with "Dear Mr. Fantasy" is

almost sad with the recent passing of Dick. It was

    still great to watch. Thanks.

  • Wow. All the big boys from 'back in the day'. I still love seeing those guys and their cars. Pure greatness. Thanks Drill Sgt.

  • The best video on YouTube. Pure Automotive Porn!

    Landy was the man!

  • The best video on YouTube! It's Automotive Porn!
