  • one thing they should get rid off is those wheel disc's and shark engine covers, real horrible features, we wana c the brakes glowing up again!!

  • Yep, agree 100% mate. Glowing brakes AND spark showers please! (Pep)

  • According to Toyota's technical director Pascal Vasselon, Ferrari's 2009 challenger contravenes the rules.

"The Ferrari has a few illegal features, like the (exposed) exhaust pipe," Vasselon told the BBC. "We expect that to change as it is outside the regulations."

  • From the FIA

1.4 Bodywork : All entirely sprung parts of the car in contact with the external air stream, except cameras, camera

housings and the parts definitely associated with the mechanical functioning of the engine, transmission

and running gear. Airboxes, radiators and engine exhausts are considered to be part of the bodywork.

  • TheRealJakeKool... it is illegal... everyone knows the exhausts of the 2009 car must come from the body and not from chimneys like ferrari did. That is why McLaren have opted for a huge bum, so that they could have the same stream line of chimneys but used the body to cover them.

I am still looking for the FIA rule, but it seems like Toyota, McLaren and BMW have expressed concerns. I'm sure they know what they're talking about and not just impending Ferrari design. They would've done that to.

  • Doesn't take long, people already complaining the Ferrari is illegal ! lol !

  • I think Ferrari are freaked out to have released a really thin car. Everyone's cars are huge maybe to cling on to more downforce, using the surface area of the car as a wing. Look at BMW's nose, they have used the maximum width but have added more on the sides of the nose... Ferrari used a thin one. We'll see how it all unfolds. Williams and McLaren for me are the best looking cars for 2009! when's the next podcast. And I hate the fact that Buemi is still running an old 08 car, it looks ugly now

  • Pep & I spoke off camera last week about Buemi topping the times in the 08 STR. Means nothing comparison wise. What it does do though is give him much needed time to get use the brutal acceleration & awesome breaking power of an F1 car. That wont change in 09 thankfully. I don't think F60 that lines up on the grid at Albert Park will look much like the car we've seen so far. Next Podcast? We're shooting it tomorrow (Saturday, Sydney time)! - Max

  • The McLaren is awesome. Form is indeed function on that car. Look at the angle of those exhausts, they are directed to the underside of the rear wing.

A lot will obviously change before the first race and I think some things are still being held back (McLarens end plates for example).

The Williams is also nice and is directing air using curves on the sidepods which gives us those humps :)

Mclaren are using an '08 wing as a baseline. It's a known item so makes sense to base setups on it.

  • Pep & Max, question. On the Ferrari F60 car, the exhaust pipes seem to be exposed much more that others. What about heat and fueling safety? Is it just me??? Over all, looks alittle new and old, just love. LOVE THOSE SLICKS<3 Kat.

  • Hey Kat! Yep, there is lot's of banter all over the web right now about those Ferrari exhausts eh? Safety wise I'm sure they are fine either way but why did they build them like that in the first place?

Some are saying it's a technical breach, but c'mon they stand out like dogs balls so they didn't do that. Time will tell I guess. Cheers mate, Pep.

  • Yah Pep, Ferrari has balls and I hope they hold tight this year. Would not be F1 with out some secrets, a? Can't wait for first race, I'm goin bananas. Lv ya, Kat :)

  • Yo kat! As Stefano Domenicalli said at launch, the car you see at Melbourne will look nothing like the car you see today. I think Ferrari are throwing us all a 'curve ball', to use some American slang!!! - Max

  • Max, don't ya just love all the secret stuff the teams play to screw with each other. Thats the 1 good thing we still have with F1, O and THE SLICKS... Reminds me of your sexy head, makes me drool. LOL, lv ya, Kat :)

  • The Ferrari and Williams are the pic of the bunch for me. The BMW looks more or less the same as their hybrid and the Macca looks horrid.

Lets hope we get used to this look one day!

  • McLaren ran d '08 spec wing to evaluate the wet tyres of BS. I think it's a big risk for them to run low downforce on a new car on a wet track. If Pedro slams it on the wall that's basically 1/5 of pre-season testing lost. So we can say that it was a safe decision. I also read somewhere that the Ferrari exhausts are illegal because of their protrusion hence, running close to Maranello. Ferrari = Thorough-bred. McLaren = Innovative. Toyota = Toyota (hehe). Renault = Dick. Williams = F1 Car

  • Thanks for that. It seemed weird to me for McLaren to run last years wing. (Pep)

  • can u tell me why they would use last yrs wing, it wouldnt benifit anything because they arnt going to use it

  • First I saw the Ferrari and I thought Wow!

Then I set eyes on the McLaren...

It made me drool and wanting to lick the car!

What a piece of art, dangit!

Renault looks a bit odd, but I never really liked that yellow colour. The car might deliver, however.

Yes, the Williams looks nice & tidy. I hope they don't mess too much with it.

  • Great vid guys, and I love that phrase Pep used to describe the way he feels about the Mac, LoL , This break feels like its never ending and the start is a million miles away. Well Done fellas !

  • THE RENAULT NOSE IS ****ING HIDEOUS!!! THATS JUST THE WORST DESIGN IVE SEEN. THE LIVERY ALSO LOOKS DOWN GRADED.

Williams look like they know what they're doing. I wont be surprised if Rosberg gives Hamilton lots of runs this year. Don't forget they know one another like brothers being team mates before... but honestly, the only good thing about the Renault car is, that's the worst and i can't possibly believe how they could release an ugly championship "contender" alonso vs. hamilton round 3

  • I agree with you - that Renault does not look good at all! Geez. The Williams seems like a very tidy car, I really like what they have done. Plus noticed that Toyota are running a sharkfin which they didn't have at launch.

One more thing - is that an 08 spec rear wing I see on the McLaren testing at Algarve?? (I DID say that I like the scrutinize the pics! lol - Pep)

  • the whole car looks like the car theyve been testing with lately. i didnt think it was the mp4-24 but thats what the headline says

  • so far i think i like the looks of the toyota the best. id like to see toyota do well this year. at least a win a piece for timo glock and jarno trulli and beat bmw in the constructors championship.

  • Yeah we got a much better look at the new Toyota (with added sharkfin) now that they have tested it. - Pep.

  • Felipe Massa calls his new Ferrari "Cute".

Although I must the Toyota looks good for this year aswell as the Ferrari.

What the hell is up with that crazy thing!!! Uh!!! The thing!!! Look the thing!!! THE THING!!! THE BMW THINGY!!! THE THING!!! CAN'T YOU SEE? THE THING!!!

    JASON

OH NANO!!! HEY HEY HEY!!! OH NANO!!!

ALONSO!!! HERE WE GO!!! ALONSO HEY!!!

  • McLaren's integrated exhaust bodywork looks fantabulous.

The rear wing which resembles a cheese grater also looks sexy. The front wing, looks the same with all '09 spec cars. I just really think that the McLaren car has a huge ass, maybe to compensate for the diffuser and the rear wing. I actually think there might be winglets in the inside of the engine cover.

  • Huge ass ... yes I noticed that when some overhead comparison photos were published. (Pep)

  • Hi Guys, good post again. Got to agree about the Mclaren, the sculpting around the exhausts is just outrageously beautiful (my girlfriend is worried!). I'm stupidly excited about this season, it's what F1's all about. Throw the teams a curve ball and see what they come up with. The next car I really want to see is the Red Bull. Very interested to see how Adrian Newey has tackled the new rules.

    Keep up the good work

  • Totally agree ChrisGeorge1970. I didn't mention the exhausts to my wife, she would have looked at me very strangely I think. I too cannot wait for the RBR car. I am guessing that Bed Bull may have the most to gain from said changes.

  • Thank God it's not just me with the exhaust thing. I feel unburdened!

  • Cheers mate! My girlfriend is the same. Let's just say that when I start talking about F1 cars being like pieces of art - she quickly switches off ... (Pep)

  • lmao, same with my gf haha..... but when i told her tht honda reached 415km/h she got hooked on2 it lol

  • Mclaren looks best, I seem to recall Mclaren stealing an advantage the last time we had such drastic rule changes (98). However, what makes 09 so exciting is the unknown element. Do anyone really know whether we'll see Ferrari and Mclaren at the top or Renault and BMW. Can't wait. Great job again guys.

  • About the looks of cars; I like the Ferrari, the Mclaren is a hog, those fat a sides and small air intake looks horrible.

The exhausts are interesting, I would think they would get burned like, when ferrari had that failure on Kimi's car in france (?!) we'll see I guess

  • A hog??? LOL - you sure about that?? ;-)(Pep)

  • Asked for your comments on the MP4-24 in the Ron Dennis vid you put out after this one. Missed this one where you address said question. Apologies. That McLaren does look schmick.

  • LOL, first yet again mate! Your on fire! Cheers, Pep.

  • Yo guys! That McLaren is one of the best looking F1 cars i've seen since the Jordan 191.

Pep, you've got a bit of a James Nesbitt going on. ; )

Keep up the vids. Can't wait for the Williams and Renault. Ciao.

  • Nesbitt - you had me googling on that one mate ... lol.

Yep we'll have our next podcast with Williams, Renault etc online by the weekend. - Pep.

  • what kind of beer is that max ? looks like a local beer.

  • Hey Stren. It was the one and only Victoria Bitter (VB). Other unflattering names that Aussies have given it are: Vomit Bombs, Green Meanies and Very shit Beer!!!!! - Max

  • jeez what about ferrari's livery?

  • I think the Mclaren looks the best...

  • You the dude who always gets the first reply?
