Ironically, after solving it, both Luthor and Darkseid become a part of the Source Wall (see Part 2 of this episode), which makes them technically dead, unless they can find a way to escape ....

@TheLordBatman Well, as much as we don't want to admit it, no animated show with a coherent story line can go on forever. Eventually either the network will get tired of it, or the general public will get tired of it, or the writers will eventually run out of ideas. Besides, as it stands, this makes for a good ending point: the legion of doom is on its death bed, the Justice League stands triumphant, and they run off to fight crime forever. Pretty solid if you ask me.
