If I'm not wrong, the order of F-Zero GBA releases is:
Maximum Velocity -> GP Legend ->Climax.
So the music got refined and improved later-on. But again, this is matter of taste, like for me I liked everything in Climax audio-wise a lot more (although the original Lightning was very good, too).
This arrangement is wonderful, actally it sounds close to an RPG special battle theme or final boss battle theme but it actually fit very well with an high speed race it has just something even more epic than the N64 version. It's also the proof that a system weak in audio generation doesn't suc if you make a good melody
it's just how you program around the weaknesses, ever noticed how good the sega genesis sounded at times? thats becasue some care to get good quality out of a system.this could have been done on genesis i think but the storgae was minimal thats why it sounds pretty scratchy at times,if the scratchieness wasn't in allot of genesis games you would have had something equal to this.
It's always a matter of taste. That "screechiness" is also noticed by me, but it is no screechiness at all, just as the Genesis spouts out the sounds. On the other hand, the SNES sounds "MIDIsh", so both have their disadvantages.
There is one thing I hate about handhelds: High-pitched sounds. Come one, even the Game Boy and Lynx could do it good, now some GBA and DS (dunno about the PSP) games sound bad, even for a handheld... Though there is awesome-quality sound, like in AW - Days of Ruin.
@aryinc no it was due to the fact that the SPC700 (sound processor) which was still great for it's time was limited to 64 KB of RAM for the whole sound data, which means the samples had to share this tiny space with the code used to generate the music and sound of the game which forced the developer to put low quality samples.
