@MrVac14 They DO pay for their healthcare for the last fucking time. God if I had a dollar for every cunt that told me a public employee doesn't pay for their healthcare I would be Bill Gates! They also pay for their pensions and they are NOT allowed to have a 401k! We have a pension, you have a 401k it works out the same!
@MrVac14 and people like you are stupid FUCKS who do not know shit about anything.A lesson here for you.It is better to keep your mouth and let people think you are stupid than to say something and prove them right.Who told you Gov, workers do not pay for their health care.Where ever you heard this they are liars or they are like you stupid.
@MrVac14- I am a public employee and I do pay into my pension and part of my health care. I don't know any public employees that don't pay something. This was not just about the 10/15% pickups, the bill was 600+ pages long. And the question I had was that since the GOV. used to manage my pension and LOST alot of the money to stupid investments now that he's in charge he wants me to contribute more to the state to make up for his mistake? I think not.
Don't forget that issue 2 also gives free death benefits to those left behind by firefighters and police officers that have died in the line of duty that is equal to a high percentile of that person's monthly wage until it reaches the time where-in the deceased would be retired. That's a pretty badass deal.
Part of safety equipment IS adequate staffing. SB5 strips away the ability to negotiate for staffing. Without an adequate number of people safety becomes compromised.
Firefighters / paramedics and their unions do not negotiate with management (or as this video says the Chief). They negotiate with city councils, safety directors and mayors. If the mayor wants a statue in the downtown of his city over two new firefighters, under SB5, he and council can make this decision. SB5 would effect fire suppression operations, but would have a much more devastating effect on EMS.
If teachers are granted raises based on performance, as done in other states that restrict collective bargaining, this would be based on student standardized test scores. Therefore the good teachers will flock to the wealthy suburbs while the bad teachers land jobs in the inner city. Those schools will have 1 - 2 year turnover rates on teachers. For instance, teachers unions are not allowed to collectively bargain in five states. These states rank 50th, 49th, 48th, 47th, and 44th in test scores.
If police are granted raises based on performance, you can expect more ticket writing. For instance; Most everyone does not come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Most police look the other way if no one was in danger. 50% of all vehicles over 5 years old have a burned out license plate marker light. Expect these infractions not going un noticed by local law enforcement if issue 2 passes. Ticket quotas were eliminated through collective bargaining, expect them to return on passage of issue 2.
Keep in mind, collective bargaining quite simply is a bargain between employer and employees. They meet in the middle. Proponents of issue 2 / SB5 want you to believe that the big bad unions strong-arm the employers into a contract that always suits the employee and their unions.
Recently, many state and local government leaders across the USA have come to public employee unions before a contract has expired asking employees to take a pay cut, pay freeze or have their benefits reduced. Over 90% of the time in recent years the unions have agreed with these municipalities in order to preserve jobs and help balance budgets.
@mpontones68 No, more ticket writing does not move us towards a police state. More restrictive laws to the individual would move us towards a police state.
Simply put: More tickets means that there are more individuals who should not be driving because they can not follow simple laws. There are signs that have posted speed limits. There are laws against alcoholic beverages being mixed with driving. If you hit another vehicle then you were not paying attention or you were breaking a law.
Honest....lol that is the funny. This video is a blatant lie, in Dayton OH it has already been said if issue 2 passes, they are decreasing staffing to 3 man minimums on fire apparatus, what are your thoughts on that? How about some more lies about something you know NOTHING about!! Vote NO!!
Ohio Education Association (state NEA affiliate): $5.87 million AFSCME (D.C.) $3 million National Labor Table (D.C.): $3 million AFSCME Local 11: $1.94 million National Education Association (D.C.): $2 million Communications Workers of America (D.C.): $1.5 million AFL-CIO (D.C.): $1.5 million AFSCME Local 4: $1.46 million Ohio Federation of Teachers (state AFT affiliate): $1.26 million SEIU 1199 (New York): $1 million SEIU 1199 (Ohio): $1 million
Well if you had any idea what a fire fighter is than you would know that most fire fighters in Ohio are indeed EMT basics or paramedics!! Also in fire classes you get ems training! Guess maybe we shouldn't pay military people that don't do anything either! Well heck how do worthless Americans that sit at home doing nothing get paid? Maybe they should go work at a McDonalds or something productive! I applied for a fire job In southern Ohio and found out my pay would start out at 8.50.
im not a voter but i would like to throw this out there ...one day my dad's girlfriend had an accidental overdose and ended up being in a temporary death state so we called 911 and the ambulance, police cars, and firetrucks didn't get there until 6 minutes after we already did CPR and revived her ...the fire station, police department, and hospital weren't even 4 minutes away....
this completely contradicts the fact that they say they will be able to have a fast response time if you vote no
@KrazyEngima Yeah, the ads seem to just be fear mongering. I remember when this was first an issue people in private unions were coming out swinging too claiming it some how effected them. I don't think issue 2 is incredibly well thought out though. It also doesn't really help matters that we're cutting spending in one area and raising it in another.
How is this an "honest look" at Issue 2 when it is giving one side's version of the story? That's no more an "honest look" as the original ad, which focused on giving the OTHER side's version of the story.
It's unfortunately true that, in America, politics & honesty don't really go together anymore.
I requested Vote yes signs!! During my career in the Military of over 20 years
I never got collective bargaining I never got to bargain over equipment or deployments, not even one raise! My daughter came home recently with a Constitution of the United States without the second amendment!! The school could not do anything! Yes, its about Unions and their product! The Union product is broken! Take back OUR communities! VOTE YES on 2!
@BadGirlzClothing - I was in the militart 21 years and got a raise almost every year. And you didn't get one in 20? You were not in the US military then.
Since when is 8.50 to much to get paid as a firefighter??? Why do you think ff have multiple jobs? You assholes that think volly fire dept are ok are obviously stupid! Say you stop breathing, and your paid fd gets there in 5 mins and saves your life! O wait of its a volly dept it might take at least 10 min to get a crew! Ever think about that!!!! Vote no on issue 2!
@3565ke You find me a firefighter than gets paid $8.50 an hour all the time (not just when they are sitting around waiting on a call) with no benefits and I will gladly vote No on Issue 2. And if you stop breathing you better hope that an EMT, Medic, or Nurse arrives. They're gonna save your life before a firefighter who may or may not even be CPR certified.
VOTE YES ON 2. SB5 must stay. Us working Ohioans in the private sector are being sqeezed to pay for the FAT pay, benefits, and especially the retirement package. We in the private sector have not been keeping up with the state workers. You need to understand that property taxes are killing us. And colemans 1/2 percent (25% in real terms) did not help either. I get NO pension. NO benefits - when I retire at age 67. NO 30 and out. NO frills. Do you State workers understand?
I am a Columbus firefighter and this video does not address the main reason that firefighters are against this bill. The bill states that when the employees ( firefighters) and their employer have a disagreement over safety or working conditions that if they cannot come to an agreement then the EMPLOYER makes the final decision. In other words there is no bargaining (even though the bill says there is, and this ad says there is). Both this video and the politicians never state that.
Why can't the firefighters just accept pay cuts and pay more for their benefits? There isn't any reason whatsoever to cut the number of staff - simply reduce their pay. If they don't like it, they can look elsewhere for employment. VOTE YES FOR ISSUE 2 AND KEEP SB5 ALIVE! The rest of us are sick of paying more each year to fund these folks' excessive pay and benefits. End the practice of double-dipping theft.
@EconCat88 You're so right! How dare these bastards whose job uis to go into burning buildings without batting an eye be paid well! They save lives! they should pay US to do that! Cops are even worse! This year has been a bad year for on the job deaths for police. Why? They get paid a lot. Maybe if we opay them less they will live longer!
Issue 2:so econcat88 can be safe at his Taco Bell job!
Oh, ask Kasich if his retirement from the House and being paid as governor is double dipping you ninny!
Go fuck yourself headinjured. These people will never be paid enough in their own minds. Thankfully, via early voting, I've already voted yes for issue 2.
@EconCat88 Aww man! I am so sorry! I must have hit a nerve with the Taco Bell comment. So let me guess, you wanted to be a firefighter and washed out? Maybe can't be a cop?
I said I wanted hot sauce with that burrito....bitch!
@EconCat88 LMAO I'm not a firefighter OR in a union so my retirement is fine. However little boy I will have to flush that burrito soon! Don't forget my hot sauce next time....bitch!
Many if not allFire Chiefs don't have union protection for their jobs... they can be let go at any time. So... they tend to succumb to the pressures of City administrations to cut monies out of their budgets to save their jobs. That means dropping staffing levels to meet budget restraints set by the City... I'm a retired firefighter... I paid 10% of my salary into my pension... and 20% of my health insurance premium. Most city union employees are already meeting what SB5 claims to want...
FIREFIGHTERS ALREADY PAY INTO THEIR PENSION... THATS THE ONLY WAY WE HAVE ONE!! The fire chief does not negotiate the contracts with the union - the paid city officials, law department and paid arbitraitors 0 e ent a day in a fire unless they were a victime.
really we dont negotiate staffing I guess when the cities are always asking us to give up minimal manning they must just be Joking how silly of us could you please inform me some more about my job cause I guess I really dont know anything
I am a Firefighter. I pay 10% into retirement- I pay for my health care-have had wage freezes for 4 years-give back five 8-hour unpaid days a year-had 0 overtime hours for the first 6 months of 2011-have 3 children in private schools I pay for as well as public school taxes for a school they don't attend. I am always concerned with safety issues concerning manpower.I will statistically live 10 years less than you. I used to be a Republican-now I am just conservative. I am voting NO on issue 2!
As for collective bargaining as a whole, "negotiation" by definition means "To come to terms in which all involved parties agree" Its not possible for unions to bully anyone because both sides have to accept a proposed contract, either side has the ability to reject. Since when has the idea of agreeing been unfair? Yes, SOME (not many) unions have negotiated things like pension pickups, but something is given up in return. It all comes out even in the end.
@Acepatriot1 To say that the issue is "Only asking you to pay 15%" is complete ignorance. Fact is that over 90% of Ohio Public employees already pay 15% and the ones who dont negotiated the pension pickup in return for concessions such as lower pay because it actually saves that particular city money to do it that way. Same with Healthcare, already pay, those who pay less gave up something in return. It WOULD NOT take over 300 pages to ask public employees to do something they already do.
@Acepatriot1 If you really know research, you'll know that collective bargaining had drastically cut down on the number of strikes, which nobody wants a strike. To prevent that, both sides compromise vs being dictated to. As for not allowing teachers the right to negiotiate on class size, issue 2 prevents this. We are already paying for our health care and our retirement. 1.3 million signatures and over 50 % of all people are going to vote NO on issue 2. The RNC already knows this.
@Acepatriot1 If Issue 2 is mostly about healthcare and pension pickup, why is it over 300 pages long??? Do you really think it takes over 300 pages to establish minimum contribution levels? Did you also know that out of approximately 5600 goverment employment units, only about 2500 pay all or even part of employees penion pickup? That's LESS THAN HALF. And why are polititians not taking any cuts first?
WE DON'T NEGOCIATE WITH THE CHIEFS!!! We negociate with City, Township, or County MANAGMENT! Just another example of how little these idiots know about our jobs!
@Acepatriot1 You are claming that issue 2 is asking workers to pay a little bit toward healthcare and retirement and has nothing to do with a voice in working conditions? And you are saying that teachers are in teaching for greed? Is it? What does the word NEGIOTIATE mean? What does the word DICTATE mean? Do you think teachers have the right to negiotiate over class size? Do you? Say it....say it.......SAY IT!!
@baritonebynight Like i said why dont we do a Voucher system and see were the parents decide to send there children .... hmmm because that puts public schools out of business if they dont change the way they teach .... again try to spin it, this is pretty funny i really think your frontal lobe is damaged or something ... because its like trying to talk to a 4 year who is very egocentric
@Acepatriot1 Answer the question. How does removing the voices of service professionals who make your life better help the state of Ohio? A teacher can have 50 kids in the class? Its cheaper that way. An RN could have 5 critically ill patients with the assistance of a non licensed health aid instead of two RNs or an LPN? Is that okay with you? Let these highly trained and educated professional negiotate for what they were trained to do, not have unsafe working conditions dictated to them.
@Acepatriot1 Here the logic poopey pants. How is taking a workers rights away from them going to make the State of Ohio better? Tell an RN she has to take more patients with an unlicensed health care worker? Tell a teacher they must have 50 kids in a class because its cheap. Dictate to fire fighters and police officers what safe staffing is. That's what issue 2 does. Do you deny that? Ohio is my home and I'm not about to let it turn into a right to work for less state.
How do you measure what you call "productivity"? Socioeconomic conditions are directly proportional to academic achievement. If you wish to compare apples to apples, you would need to look at a wealthy public school vs private one and there is probably no difference in achievement (ACT, SAT, OGT, AP scores). If you speak about being productive, you must name a standard otherwise it means nothing. Try again...I know its hard for you.
@baritonebynight haha alright drone thats why you compare kids act and sat from public to private school and you know the private school act and sat scores are ten times better .... why dont we do voucher system drone oh wait because people would choose private schools to public any day of the week
@Elite2121 Where's your data dumb dumb? Its about socioeconomics. Compare a private school to the wealthy suburbs, no difference. Its poverty that is the problem. If you put people who come from a culture of poverty at the Wellington School or CSG or Columbus Academy, do you think they would magically get better scores. The wealthy kids at these school generally have more resouces at home. A kid in poverty may have a single parent who is working multiple jobs to keep a roof over their heads.
@baritonebynight haha my dad did my grandmother came from Puerto Rico poor and my grandmother understood that she had to put my dad in a good school so she worked 3 jobs to pay for a private school for my dad ... it payed off he got good marks and later became a very successful business owner so dont pull the social economics on me because my family is the perfect example of how he out routed from the low class to higher middle class threw hard work and dedication
@Elite2121 Actually, the largest factor determining academic success is socioeconomics. You're story is special, but it does not stand up against empirical evidence. Try again!
@baritonebynight alright lebron james came from a shitty area somehow managed to get good grades in a private school hmmmm ... so please you try again
@baritonebynight and im actually the greatest example my sisters went to private school i went to a public school i had alright grades As Bs , then as soon as i went to College i found out how hard i had to work for my grades , funny enough i passed my classes by the skid of my teeth i sort of had to teach my self better study habits .... while my sisters are getting great grades in College im still working ten times harder then them and only get decent grades
@Acepatriot1 Really? Education means squat? Education is one of the few things in life that nobody can take away from you. I'm probably a LOT smarter than you are with or without my degrees. What do you mean by common sence, dumb dumb? Its common sence that good teachers will not work without a voice in the work place, its not common sence that they will willingly be dictated to by non educators about their working conditions. I wouldn't dictate to a nurse what her/his conditions are.
@Acepatriot1 My guess is that you are a paid goon of the Koch brothers. I'm a public school teacher with a masters degree. I am too highly educated and trained and have too much invensted in what I do to let a non educator dictate my working conditions to me. Thats not rhetoric, thats a fact. You better hope you never need a police officer, nurse, teacher, fire fighter, librarian, or any other public worker if their voices are taken away from them like you wish. These folks will leave this state.
Is this a joke? It has to be! Negotiating with the Chief!? they are negotiating with greedy city officials who cut staffing, while getting themselves raises. *It really bothers be that you have NO idea how the system works and you try to post this like it is FACT.
@thatcaligirl how is trying to get a city's budget inline bad ,you should cut the fat , get the best employs for the job not just because theyve been there longest ... im tired of this .... im a taxpayer ......good job OHIO im spreading the message .... vote yes on issue 2 , I can tell your one of those cali's who think the tax payer has unlimited funds but we don't.... California should follow the lead by Ohio and other states
@Elite2121 I hope you never need a firefighter, police officer, teacher, nurse or librarian if you want to take their voice away in the work place. Blaming middle class workers and making into lower class workers will not help the problem, for these workers are also consumers. Many are highly trained and educated and will refuse to work in a right to work for less state..including this on. NO to issue 2!!
@baritonebynight I am a lower class worker a poor college student but you seem to be very ignorant on what you watch or your part of a union .... The majority of the middle class is not in union in fact more then 90% of ohioans are not in unions ... tell me why someone should be forced to join a union if they go into public jobs like a teacher or police officer, then forced to pay 1000 a year , shouldn't they get the choice to either be or not to be in a union
@Elite2121 Issue 2 is about taking away a workers right to a voice in the work place. Get it? Collective bargaining means that both sides get to negiotiate. Are you disputing that? I know SB 5 VERY well. SB 5, now issue 2, strips public workers of their right to negiotiate. Are you disputing that too? Or did the Koch brother's training not teach you enough to respond?
@baritonebynight see anybody who disproves of your few is a koch brother im just saying states that are right to work are ten times better then states that have a gun up to there head due to unions .... if you cant see how unions destroyed this country then you sir are truely brainwashed .... i cant go picket at my job as a server , why should the children and the community suffer over the unions ..... i guarantee you that are state would be ten times better off if we pass this.
@baritonebynight Im just tired of how the middle class has to pay for there dential there insurance , and only get paid more money if they perform good at there jobs .... while government workers in ohio get full dential and full health insurance and gets paid each year they work there even if they do a shitty job that has too stop the good should stay and the bad should get the hell out ..... Vote yes on issue 2
@baritonebynight i find bull in that ,tell my why private schools students are ten times more productive then public school students !?!?! and yet the private school teachers are getting paid less then public school teachers .....vote yes on issue 2
WOW after looking at a couple of other vidoe this @GOHPBlog has posted I must say "What freaking nut bag" he just likes to entertain himself while trying to get others to buy into his rhetoric. In his Exclusive NO on issue 2 ad he even try's to pass it off as a We are Ohio sponsored ad. Even if he meant that whole posting to be funny it only makes him out to be a, nut bag! Vote NO on Issue 2 and stop the political abuse of Ohio's taxpayers.
If this is the absolute best solution to helping Ohio's economy and the financially and morally correct way to handle the public employee's then why did the Governer and the representatives that developed this landmark legislation immediatly exempt themselves from it? Mr.@GOHPBlog your as bad as the criminals you are trying to justify. This isn't Ohio vs Unions this is politicians urinating down our backs and telling us to ignore it, its raining. Help improve the current system.
This whole idea needs to be shot down. There are too many uninformed people that are jumping on Kasich's bandwagon. The guy is a complete nutjob. He wants to make these cuts, and for all of you that allow him to do it, you'll probably be next on his list of cuts.
how is stopping the curve of unions not bad im sorry they have to much power we need to return it back to the cities and not to these unions(mobs) the cities no better not the union bosses
@Elite2121 While I agree with some of what your saying... and most level headed members of a union will tell you the system needs improvement on both sides. But what the state is proposing is scrap collective bargaining and rely on politicians to do and decide what is best. Well we all know how well that works out for the average working guy. Their wisdom is what has got us here to start with. Help build a better collective bargaining system is the answer. Vote NO on Issue 2
@jaeberly All im saying we dont have to worry about unions striking on a federal level because they got rid of it in the 1970s by Jimmy Carter and a democrat congress they knew that Unions did more harm then they did good.... thats why i say Vote yes on issue 2
@Elite2121 While I agree with some of what your saying... and most level headed MEMBERS of a union will tell you the system needs improvement on both sides. Boy did you take a little slice of issue #2 and make it seem like the whole pie. This is only addressing equipment and staffing and the truth is most contracts for police and fire in the last several years have inclueded little if any raises and issue #2 will allow mayors to do anything they want to their employees. In Toledo Mike Bell is currently telling all kinds of lies to drum up support for this issue. Read the bill, learn the truth, VOTE NO ON ISSUE #2 !
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@tsgtammo2 Lies? You want to talk about lies? Try the lies being forwarded by the OEA regarding teacher salary and class size. Try the lies being forwarded by We Are Ohio regarding minimum staffing.
Fact: Less than 12% of labor contracts in Ohio MENTION staffing. And Issue 2 will actually save dollars, which saves jobs.
Fact: No salaries are cut in Issue 2. In fact, performance-based pay assures top teachers aren't laid off, like they were in Pickerington earlier in the year.
@GOHPBlog Nice. You are not a firefighter. Should we trust YOU a mysterious voice, or the firefighters who keep us safe. The firefighters are AGAINST issue 2. Who are you? You pays you? What firefighter will want to work in a place where they have no say in the workplace? Please tell us, mysterious voice who isn't a firefighter, why should we trust YOU instead of the firefighters on issue 2? No on issue 2. Unfair, unsafe, hurts us all.
@tsgtammo2 I don't think you want people to read the bill because they'll find out your the one who's lying. Issue 2 is good for Ohio and firefighters. VOTE YES ON ISSUE 2!
@GOHPBlog you give me any piece of literature that says class size is not important and I will be astonished. As a teacher I know that class size is extremely important. The best is that we are being compared to other countries.....other countries that do not teach ALL students like we do here. If we got to pick and choose who we taught, of course we would be in the highest percentages of everything.
@tsgtammo2 the best is the commercial that had Bell saying he was let go from the firefighters, when in reality he quit to run for mayor of Toledo, and now he is turning his back on all of his fellow firefighters...
Who's the idiot that came up with this BS on the video. Whomever created this hasn't a clue what they're talking about. We don't negotiate w/ the chief you moron, it's w/ the city hall dwellers that are only looking at numbers, plain & simple. The fire chief's hands are tied when it comes to staffing levels, he also has to fight the city hall dwellers. SB5 states we can only negotiate our pay, nothing else! Pension pick up, health care premiums, vacation days, all in leu of raises,
YOU are wrong, in fact you are stupid if you believe what you are saying. My fire department is already 5 men below standards. Lets see a video on that douche.
Sorry, but firefighters DO NOT negotiate with their Chief. Negotiations are between the City (Mayor, Law Director, or their counsel) and the Local representatives. It's hard to take your video seriously when your very first point in FALSE! Good try, though.
This group is comprised of hardworking Ohioans. Look at the latest polling: Republicans & Independents favor the law, and 1 in 5 Democrats does too. Modern twists the truth--fire chiefs WILL be at the negotiating table--and the idea that merit pay somehow won't reward Ohio's best performers runs counter to the 85% of Ohioans who excel in the private sector on their merit.
YES on 2 will protect jobs, and our neighborhoods.
@pipersmitty87 Talk about funding is just talk without facts & figures to back it up. The statistics to back up the claim that 1 in 5 Democrats support Issue 2 come from the Public Policy Polling done in Ohio on August 18th.
@JacobLarger Oh the well known public policy poll. HA nice.... well the ohio poll of citizens says your full of shit.Your entire video is slanted and biased and lastly not at all honest.
@JacobLarge actully you are the one with no facts nice job of espousing your bought (and paid for) opinion.
BTW you have no idea really how a fire department/fire chiefrelationship or city coucnil -mayor relationship works by the idiotic video comments you have here- purely laughable.
@JacobLarger hardworking actually working hard to kill the lives of real working people. what do you do? push a pencil? make videos filled with biased comments. There has never in any fire department with a chief at the negotiating table. Best performers are already getting extra pay-its called special teams and Promotions. You are not motivated by any of that anyway, its all about ruining the right to bargain.
@pipersmitty87 Actually I make the videos. And I was born & raised in rural Ohio, so I work for my paycheck, and my community is protected by VOLUNTEER firefighters.
Fire Chiefs are at the table when negotiating, and they won't let their communities have less than the resources they need. Stop simply vomiting union lies and start looking at the facts.
@GOHPBlog we all dont live in the sticks and have volunteer departments. And we dont have a fire chief who is also the mayor. like you do. We are all different -so start looking around at the rest of the world outside of your view. and dont paint Ohio as greedy when we dont just volunteer because noone else would do it, Here it is a competitive profession.
And btw MOST fire chiefs DO allow the city to operate with less resources than they need. The UNIONS make sure it gets corrected.
@pipersmitty87 So rural values don't translate to urban areas? Makes sense, seeing as how hardworking farmers vote Republican while lazy Democrats in the city vote for their paychecks.
And if firefighting is a competitive profession, why not allow them to earn their wages based on their performance? Or maybe you'd rather your community be protected by tenured firefighters rather than the best ones?
@GOHPBlog we do its called "promotions" and "special teams" dumbass- we get more money for performing above and beyond. So by your standards the wise old firefighter with tons of street knowledge should take a pay cut while the new book smart brainiac gets a raise? Exactly how -genius- is the merit system supposed to work in the fire service. It cannot.
This group is not compromised of workers but of private companies that want your tax dollars. They don't care about Ohio or about the budget. Vote NO on Issue 2!
Vote NO on Issue 2. Fine, so firemen may be able to negotiate equipment, but they, just like the rest of the unionized state employees, will not be able to bargain for better wages. Instead they must be forced to get raises based on "merit." Since there is no definition of merit, those who are the best buddies with management are guaranteed the best raises, while those who do their job well but may not see eye-to-eye with management will be hosed (no pun intended) every chance management gets.
This video is absolute NONSENSE. Issue 2 does not leave the staffing decisions to Fire Chiefs at all. Fire Chiefs don't set their budgets, nor do they negotiate labor contracts. Issue 2, if passed, doesn't leave staffing decisions to fire chiefs.
The Columbus Dispatch has reviewed the same ad and found it truthful. This video is misleading and wrong.
Support our fellow Ohio workers! Vote YES on 2! It'll make a better, stronger Ohio workforce.
With the decline of unionized workforce in the state of Ohio, we need to support the growing workforce. Nearly 90% of Ohio's workforce is non-union and we need to support those workers. VOTE YES on 2!
@jasonhunt343 You contradicted yourself--the fire chief isn't going to negotiate for less "pieces" than what his or her station requires. The administration won't reduce staffing unless it's already over-staffed or the budget doesn't allow it just the same as it is today.
Difference with Issue 2 is that, instead of having to go directly to lay offs, fire chiefs have the ability to cut costs & retain the necessary firefighters to keep our neighborhoods--and our dedicated firefighters--safe.
If the administration is able to cut costs by reducing strafing, they will. The fire chief has the job of how to best use the pieces available to them. This will lead to both safety issues as well as response delays. It's a bottom line business.
The point of this video is to illustrate that a Yes on Issue 2 will actually benefit our firefighters. If union members are able to see the facts for what they are, they'll vote Yes too.
Our job is to educate--and that's what we're going to continue to do.
Free ride? Wow hey why don't you think about firefighters risking their lives every day to save your property and with the risk of being killed at any moment in a fire, risking leaving their children with no mommy or daddy. Is that a free ride for the family then? I don't think so. Just because you don't like your job don't take it out on anyone else. Have a great day!
@dodge9406 ,did I mention that MY SON is a firefighter, and he laughs at wanna-be heroes like yourself ranting about 'risking your life everyday',....the average liquor store employee has a more dangerous job than a firefighter, dick-weed....now go get a job in a nursery school if you feel that being a firefighter is so dam dangerous, puss-cake,....
....this is a load of SHIT!!!,...issue 5 has NOTHING to do with how many are hired, does NOT hinder bargaining on wages,,,,it only says that BENEFITS are not subject to collective bargaining,....just like EVERY right-to-work employee,.....please stop lying, union members, Ohio is broke, and your free ride is OVER!!.....
The only thing Issue 2 will aloow to negotiate is wages period. Not ALL chiefs have come from the ranks and not ALL paid firefighters are a union shop. Issue 2 also cuts 3/4 (on average) of all staffing out of the union. The 1983 ruling prevented strikes for safety forces, it gave them negotiations for all issues. Strikes on all levels are a bad thing. It leaves a bad taste with all parties concerned.
Well OHIO HAS SPOKEN. And they agree with me....

Pandaoniman 4 months ago
Part of safety equipment IS adequate staffing. SB5 strips away the ability to negotiate for staffing. Without an adequate number of people safety becomes compromised.
mpontones68 4 months ago
Firefighters / paramedics and their unions do not negotiate with management (or as this video says the Chief). They negotiate with city councils, safety directors and mayors. If the mayor wants a statue in the downtown of his city over two new firefighters, under SB5, he and council can make this decision. SB5 would effect fire suppression operations, but would have a much more devastating effect on EMS.
mpontones68 4 months ago
Saying a fire chief decides staffing is like saying the school principal decides the architecture of a new school building.
15% of health care??? Many union government employees today pay considerably more than 15%.
mpontones68 4 months ago
If teachers are granted raises based on performance, as done in other states that restrict collective bargaining, this would be based on student standardized test scores. Therefore the good teachers will flock to the wealthy suburbs while the bad teachers land jobs in the inner city. Those schools will have 1 - 2 year turnover rates on teachers. For instance, teachers unions are not allowed to collectively bargain in five states. These states rank 50th, 49th, 48th, 47th, and 44th in test scores.
mpontones68 4 months ago
If police are granted raises based on performance, you can expect more ticket writing. For instance; Most everyone does not come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Most police look the other way if no one was in danger. 50% of all vehicles over 5 years old have a burned out license plate marker light. Expect these infractions not going un noticed by local law enforcement if issue 2 passes. Ticket quotas were eliminated through collective bargaining, expect them to return on passage of issue 2.
mpontones68 4 months ago
Keep in mind, collective bargaining quite simply is a bargain between employer and employees. They meet in the middle. Proponents of issue 2 / SB5 want you to believe that the big bad unions strong-arm the employers into a contract that always suits the employee and their unions.
mpontones68 4 months ago
Recently, many state and local government leaders across the USA have come to public employee unions before a contract has expired asking employees to take a pay cut, pay freeze or have their benefits reduced. Over 90% of the time in recent years the unions have agreed with these municipalities in order to preserve jobs and help balance budgets.
mpontones68 4 months ago
Collective bargaining works two ways. SB5 works one. SB5 gives the governments more power. Increased ticket writing moves us toward a police state.
mpontones68 4 months ago
@mpontones68 No, more ticket writing does not move us towards a police state. More restrictive laws to the individual would move us towards a police state.
Simply put: More tickets means that there are more individuals who should not be driving because they can not follow simple laws. There are signs that have posted speed limits. There are laws against alcoholic beverages being mixed with driving. If you hit another vehicle then you were not paying attention or you were breaking a law.

It also doesn't really help matters that we're cutting spending in one area and raising it in another.
merkabaradio 4 months ago
How is this an "honest look" at Issue 2 when it is giving one side's version of the story? That's no more an "honest look" as the original ad, which focused on giving the OTHER side's version of the story.
It's unfortunately true that, in America, politics & honesty don't really go together anymore.

Wow, this is one lie after another after another. I don't even know where to begin debunking them. NO ON ISSUE 2!!!!

Most city union employees are already meeting what SB5 claims to want...

fyrmnjim1 5 months ago 11
As for collective bargaining as a whole, "negotiation" by definition means "To come to terms in which all involved parties agree" Its not possible for unions to bully anyone because both sides have to accept a proposed contract, either side has the ability to reject. Since when has the idea of agreeing been unfair? Yes, SOME (not many) unions have negotiated things like pension pickups, but something is given up in return. It all comes out even in the end.
sxangelxe 5 months ago

The RNC already knows this.
baritonebynight 5 months ago
@Acepatriot1 If Issue 2 is mostly about healthcare and pension pickup, why is it over 300 pages long??? Do you really think it takes over 300 pages to establish minimum contribution levels? Did you also know that out of approximately 5600 goverment employment units, only about 2500 pay all or even part of employees penion pickup? That's LESS THAN HALF. And why are polititians not taking any cuts first?

@Acepatriot1 You are claming that issue 2 is asking workers to pay a little bit toward healthcare and retirement and has nothing to do with a voice in working conditions? And you are saying that teachers are in teaching for greed? Is it? What does the word NEGIOTIATE mean? What does the word DICTATE mean? Do you think teachers have the right to negiotiate over class size? Do you? Say it....say it.......SAY IT!!

Elite2121 5 months ago
@Acepatriot1 Answer the question. How does removing the voices of service professionals who make your life better help the state of Ohio? A teacher can have 50 kids in the class? Its cheaper that way. An RN could have 5 critically ill patients with the assistance of a non licensed health aid instead of two RNs or an LPN? Is that okay with you? Let these highly trained and educated professional negiotate for what they were trained to do, not have unsafe working conditions dictated to them.

baritonebynight 5 months ago
@Acepatriot1 Here the logic poopey pants. How is taking a workers rights away from them going to make the State of Ohio better? Tell an RN she has to take more patients with an unlicensed health care worker? Tell a teacher they must have 50 kids in a class because its cheap. Dictate to fire fighters and police officers what safe staffing is. That's what issue 2 does. Do you deny that? Ohio is my home and I'm not about to let it turn into a right to work for less state.
baritonebynight 5 months ago
How do you measure what you call "productivity"? Socioeconomic conditions are directly proportional to academic achievement. If you wish to compare apples to apples, you would need to look at a wealthy public school vs private one and there is probably no difference in achievement (ACT, SAT, OGT, AP scores). If you speak about being productive, you must name a standard otherwise it means nothing. Try again...I know its hard for you.
baritonebynight 5 months ago
@baritonebynight haha alright drone thats why you compare kids act and sat from public to private school and you know the private school act and sat scores are ten times better .... why dont we do voucher system drone oh wait because people would choose private schools to public any day of the week
Elite2121 5 months ago
@Elite2121 Where's your data dumb dumb? Its about socioeconomics. Compare a private school to the wealthy suburbs, no difference. Its poverty that is the problem. If you put people who come from a culture of poverty at the Wellington School or CSG or Columbus Academy, do you think they would magically get better scores. The wealthy kids at these school generally have more resouces at home. A kid in poverty may have a single parent who is working multiple jobs to keep a roof over their heads.
baritonebynight 5 months ago
@baritonebynight haha my dad did my grandmother came from Puerto Rico poor and my grandmother understood that she had to put my dad in a good school so she worked 3 jobs to pay for a private school for my dad ... it payed off he got good marks and later became a very successful business owner so dont pull the social economics on me because my family is the perfect example of how he out routed from the low class to higher middle class threw hard work and dedication
Elite2121 5 months ago
@Elite2121 Actually, the largest factor determining academic success is socioeconomics. You're story is special, but it does not stand up against empirical evidence. Try again!

I wouldn't dictate to a nurse what her/his conditions are.
baritonebynight 5 months ago
@Acepatriot1 My guess is that you are a paid goon of the Koch brothers. I'm a public school teacher with a masters degree. I am too highly educated and trained and have too much invensted in what I do to let a non educator dictate my working conditions to me. Thats not rhetoric, thats a fact. Elite2121 5 months ago
@Elite2121 Issue 2 is about taking away a workers right to a voice in the work place. Get it? Collective bargaining means that both sides get to negiotiate. Are you disputing that?

31buckeye40 5 months ago
@31buckeye40 Firefighters are against issue 2 dumb dumb. No on isssue 2.

@jakexu50 Well said. Thanks for being a voice to cancel out these Koch brother goons.
baritonebynight 5 months ago
@tsgtammo2 I'm voting NO on issue 2 also. Its unfair, unsafe and hurts all us...Except the Koch brothers that is.
baritonebynight 5 months ago
@tsgtammo2 the best is the commercial that had Bell saying he was let go from the firefighters, when in reality he quit to run for mayor of Toledo, and now he is turning his back on all of his fellow firefighters...

which save tax payers money, this would include equipment fool!!! So gets your shit straight before spreading republithug BS numb nuts!!!!

Pension pick up, health care premiums, vacation days, all in leu of raises,
apple22sauce 5 months ago
YOU are wrong, in fact you are stupid if you believe what you are saying. My fire department is already 5 men below standards. Lets see a video on that douche.
You must be insane .

Sorry, but firefighters DO NOT negotiate with their Chief. Negotiations are between the City (Mayor, Law Director, or their counsel) and the Local representatives. It's hard to take your video seriously when your very first point in FALSE! Good try, though.
mouthbre 6 months ago
This group is comprised of hardworking Ohioans. Look at the latest polling: Republicans & Independents favor the law, and 1 in 5 Democrats does too. Modern twists the truth--fire chiefs WILL be at the negotiating table--and the idea that merit pay somehow won't reward Ohio's best performers runs counter to the 85% of Ohioans who excel in the private sector on their merit.
YES on 2 will protect jobs, and our neighborhoods.
JacobLarger 6 months ago
@JacobLarger Being funded by associates of Gov. John Kasich. Please correct me if I am wrong.
1 in 5 democrats? ha now you are sipping the kool aide. Show me where you dreamed that up.
pipersmitty87 5 months ago
@pipersmitty87 Talk about funding is just talk without facts & figures to back it up. The statistics to back up the claim that 1 in 5 Democrats support Issue 2 come from the Public Policy Polling done in Ohio on August 18th.
Where's your facts?
JacobLarger 5 months ago
@JacobLarger Oh the well known public policy poll. HA nice.... well the ohio poll of citizens says your full of shit.Your entire video is slanted and biased and lastly not at all honest.
pipersmitty87 5 months ago
@pipersmitty87 Thanks for the civil discourse with absolutely no facts. Definitely the image you want to present. Good job.
JacobLarger 5 months ago
@JacobLarge actully you are the one with no facts nice job of espousing your bought (and paid for) opinion.
BTW you have no idea really how a fire department/fire chiefrelationship or city coucnil -mayor relationship works by the idiotic video comments you have here- purely laughable.
pipersmitty87 5 months ago
@JacobLarger hardworking actually working hard to kill the lives of real working people. what do you do? push a pencil? make videos filled with biased comments. There has never in any fire department with a chief at the negotiating table. Best performers are already getting extra pay-its called special teams and Promotions. You are not motivated by any of that anyway, its all about ruining the right to bargain.
pipersmitty87 5 months ago
@pipersmitty87 Actually I make the videos. And I was born & raised in rural Ohio, so I work for my paycheck, and my community is protected by VOLUNTEER firefighters.
Fire Chiefs are at the table when negotiating, and they won't let their communities have less than the resources they need. Stop simply vomiting union lies and start looking at the facts.
GOHPBlog 5 months ago
@GOHPBlog we all dont live in the sticks and have volunteer departments. And we dont have a fire chief who is also the mayor. like you do. We are all different -so start looking around at the rest of the world outside of your view. and dont paint Ohio as greedy when we dont just volunteer because noone else would do it, Here it is a competitive profession.
And btw MOST fire chiefs DO allow the city to operate with less resources than they need. The UNIONS make sure it gets corrected.
pipersmitty87 5 months ago
@pipersmitty87 So rural values don't translate to urban areas? Makes sense, seeing as how hardworking farmers vote Republican while lazy Democrats in the city vote for their paychecks.
And if firefighting is a competitive profession, why not allow them to earn their wages based on their performance? Or maybe you'd rather your community be protected by tenured firefighters rather than the best ones?
GOHPBlog 5 months ago
@GOHPBlog we do its called "promotions" and "special teams" dumbass- we get more money for performing above and beyond. So by your standards the wise old firefighter with tons of street knowledge should take a pay cut while the new book smart brainiac gets a raise? Exactly how -genius- is the merit system supposed to work in the fire service. It cannot.
pipersmitty87 5 months ago
This group is not compromised of workers but of private companies that want your tax dollars. They don't care about Ohio or about the budget. Vote NO on Issue 2!
tackett44 6 months ago
Vote NO on Issue 2. Fine, so firemen may be able to negotiate equipment, but they, just like the rest of the unionized state employees, will not be able to bargain for better wages. Instead they must be forced to get raises based on "merit." Since there is no definition of merit, those who are the best buddies with management are guaranteed the best raises, while those who do their job well but may not see eye-to-eye with management will be hosed (no pun intended) every chance management gets.
bt25 6 months ago
This video is absolute NONSENSE. Issue 2 does not leave the staffing decisions to Fire Chiefs at all. Fire Chiefs don't set their budgets, nor do they negotiate labor contracts. Issue 2, if passed, doesn't leave staffing decisions to fire chiefs.
The Columbus Dispatch has reviewed the same ad and found it truthful. This video is misleading and wrong.
modernesquire 6 months ago
Support our fellow Ohio workers! Vote YES on 2! It'll make a better, stronger Ohio workforce.
With the decline of unionized workforce in the state of Ohio, we need to support the growing workforce. Nearly 90% of Ohio's workforce is non-union and we need to support those workers. VOTE YES on 2!
noggin7717 6 months ago
@jasonhunt343 You contradicted yourself--the fire chief isn't going to negotiate for less "pieces" than what his or her station requires. The administration won't reduce staffing unless it's already over-staffed or the budget doesn't allow it just the same as it is today.
Difference with Issue 2 is that, instead of having to go directly to lay offs, fire chiefs have the ability to cut costs & retain the necessary firefighters to keep our neighborhoods--and our dedicated firefighters--safe.
GOHPBlog 6 months ago
If the administration is able to cut costs by reducing strafing, they will. The fire chief has the job of how to best use the pieces available to them. This will lead to both safety issues as well as response delays. It's a bottom line business.
jasonhunt343 6 months ago
The point of this video is to illustrate that a Yes on Issue 2 will actually benefit our firefighters. If union members are able to see the facts for what they are, they'll vote Yes too.
Our job is to educate--and that's what we're going to continue to do.

Free ride? Wow hey why don't you think about firefighters risking their lives every day to save your property and with the risk of being killed at any moment in a fire, risking leaving their children with no mommy or daddy. Is that a free ride for the family then? I don't think so. Just because you don't like your job don't take it out on anyone else. Have a great day!
dodge9406 6 months ago
@dodge9406 ,did I mention that MY SON is a firefighter, and he laughs at wanna-be heroes like yourself ranting about 'risking your life everyday',....the average liquor store employee has a more dangerous job than a firefighter, dick-weed....now go get a job in a nursery school if you feel that being a firefighter is so dam dangerous, puss-cake,....

....this is a load of SHIT!!!,...issue 5 has NOTHING to do with how many are hired, does NOT hinder bargaining on wages,,,,it only says that BENEFITS are not subject to collective bargaining,....just like EVERY right-to-work employee,.....please stop lying, union members, Ohio is broke, and your free ride is OVER!!.....
corksterism 6 months ago
The only thing Issue 2 will aloow to negotiate is wages period. Not ALL chiefs have come from the ranks and not ALL paid firefighters are a union shop. Issue 2 also cuts 3/4 (on average) of all staffing out of the union. The 1983 ruling prevented strikes for safety forces, it gave them negotiations for all issues. Strikes on all levels are a bad thing. It leaves a bad taste with all parties concerned.
