i donb't know where to find them and how do u get them in black i really want one soooo bad i have 4 orandas 2 ryukins 1 comet 1 peralscale 1 red and white lionhead 2 moores please tell me i really want one so bad and i know i can buy them online which i think i will=)))))))
April 07, 2007? I'd really be surprised if your wen fishes are still alive today. These types are problematic and perhaps genetically weakened to begin with, and are they ever prone to swim bladder disease and hole-in-the-head, inspite of the care, expensive medication and injections you give them, even in a "closed" tank.
I bought them in october of 2005.. last one died on june 2008..
As you mentioned above, it is indeed really hard to take care of these fish, even with proper water changes along with good diet. Never heard anyone that kept ranchu more then five years in a closed tank.. November of 2008 I bought more of them.. they are in 150gal tank with better filter...with my previous experience,I will take care of them better this time.
At least, you've kept one alive for more than 2.5 years. 2-years is my record, and this fish has been kept in a big pond with lots of hyacinths. In a 75 gal tank, my record is a year and a half. Perhaps I'm just unlucky to get the genetically defective because my water parameter is perfect, no flukes, nothing. I use Praziquantel and microscope. I've been doing this for almost 30 years. What gets me is I paid top prices. I buy online. I'll stick to tosakins from now on. They're the survivors
To an earlier comment; I prefer sand in my goldfish tanks. Goldfish can choke on gravel but they pass sand right through. None of the food is uneaten because they can easily find it on the sand. That said, bare tanks are fine. Mine do like plastic plants and large rocks to swim around though.
I've seen so many nice goldfish and tank set ups. One thing I noticed is that 99% of them have no gravel in the tank. Is it better for the fish that way? Because I have a few fish in my 45 gallon with gravel, and cleaning it is quite the job.
As you see,I provide them green carpet of algae growth all over the fish tank, goldfish seems to nibble or suck all over the fish tank with this set up.
As you know championranchu, even at perfect water condition, and food goldfish can get sick for some strange reason. And the replacement for more show grade goldfish are not cheap, as you already know I started as hobby first, now i know it is an addition to collect more and more fish, and it is hard to stop.
25%-35% water changes weekly. Feed Hikari Lionhead, cooke green peas. Never had any constipation, but mostly internal bacterial infection or skin bacterial infection that needed medical injection to cure,, that is not possible around my area.. since adding rock salt in every water changes made big difference. well water is best for goldfish but have only city water full of ferric, fluoride, alum, and chorine. I can remove chorine, but other chemicals are hard to remove. wish had good well water here.
I agree its hard to takecare of them...i lost few. I find if you develop a routine for feeding (use a auto feeder) and waterchanges then they seem to do good.
Hey nice goldies, but your calico ranchu is cool, its got nice color patterns...especially the blacks/whites. How big is it...do takecare of it. Wish we get decent goldies like those ones here
They are usually cheaper when it comes to higher grade. The lower grades are usually the same price but in general they are cheaper because ranchu happens to be the more popular.

No gravel makes weekly tank cleaning job less hassel,No gravel means no uneaten food stuck between the gravel,= less nitrate, less maintenance time.
ARTICMKH 4 years ago
But wouldn't the goldfish feel less at home? I know they love sucking on those rocks.

What are you feeding them? How frequent H20 changes?
Are they dying from constipation or bateria infection?
Those are very nice chinese breed fish, they shouldn't die. I have chinese ranchus too, black, calico, & Red+white. hhhmmm. well H20 or City?

Well it was 6 inches. It died couple weeks ago
due to several baterial infections. some say taking
care of fancy goldfish is easy task, but to me it isn't
easy... during the years of goldfish keeping I've lost
many show grade ranchus.. I now add 1 table of rock
salt to every 5 gal in every water change,it is cheap
insurance but it seems to help.. thanks for comment.

I bought them as adults, wen growth depends on blood
line and improvement of diet, most goldfish farms feed
lots of blood worms for rapid growth..tank is 75gal.
thaks for comment..
