Tenchu was unique. It is the only series of games where I ever felt like really controlling a ninja. Ninja Gaiden, and Shinobi are just Hack n Slash and platforming, which is great too. Tenchu 2, and Wrath of Heaven are also awesome games.

But I did buy the newest one for the Wii, and I'm sad to say... it downright sucked. R.I.P Tenchu.

Now its 2011, and looking at 1:00-1:05 I still am impressed at how they pulled off such a 3D movement so ninja-like in 1998. Haven't seen better interpretation of how ninja moves in other media yet :)

The music in games always stand out for me, my memories of games with great soundtracks are Tenchu 1,2,3, Ecco the Dolphin (16bit), Silent Hill 2, Metroid Prime and Legend of Zelda. There are probably a few others but the songs and intro's from these games are so atmospheric.

@Jydekris idk, i thought tenchu 2 had better gameplay and story. Well it was a little bit more refined than the first game. Also, I don't think there was a story in tenchu 1 at all. Gohda sent you on missions, and the only story was really at the end of the game. Tenchu 2 had that whole Tatsumaru thing going on.

"Epic" is the only word I can use to describe this intro. No flashy fight scenes or super ninja powers, it's just subtle and thought provoking. Where I live, the release of Metal Gear Solid actually coincided with Tenchu (I'm in a PAL territory), which unfortunately, completely overshadowed this awesome, unique game.
