Jiraiya, Tsunade, Orochimaru? Did the creator of the manga/anime Naruto use this film as reference for his characters? That's so interesting! In Naruto even Jiraiya's, Tsunade's, and Orochimaru's abilities match this story.
@RBIVscreamtherequiem Haha yes! That's badass! I love finding the source of inspiration (or near plagiarism :-p) for stuff like Naruto. Like how Guts in Berserk is almost exactly like Götz von Berlichingen, according to wikipedia.
@RBIVscreamtherequiem Maybe. But this is based on folklore so Naruto could have just based their characters on folklore. I do not know. Do the characters look the same in Naruto? Never seen that show.
@kingbilgames It's hard to tell from this black and white movie, but it looks like the character sin Naruto are just stylized versions of this. It's clear that the writer (Masashi Kishimoto) knew about this folktale going into the project, and incorporated these 3 characters and their abilities into the manga/anime. It's very neat actually, to discover the history behind these characters.
The Art of fighting in a choreographed dance is still seen in many productions and media to this day. Plays, music videos and, very notably, popular video games use it to excite the action. These film makers added their special effects to that and must have dazzled the audience. Nowadays CGI has made us insensitive to a lot of what we see, but in 1921, this was huge. Kevin MacLeod's music, once again, works amazingly here. You did a great job of putting it all together. Thanks.
I love the rhythmic part starting at 3:46 !

Fascinating glimpse at early fantastic cinema. Music cues are well-chosen. Thanks for posting.
