I finally found out! Samson is from the bible....Apparently God gave him amazing strength from his hair! He fell in love with this girl, who betrayed him and cut his hair...With this strength he killed thousands of soliders.So the girl he loved cut his hair, and the remaining soliders threw him in prison..Well he stayed there, and his hair grew back. Song Explained: Although reference is made to the historic samson and delilah, it says "the bible didn't mention us" so we know that it is about a couple other than the biblical ones. Singer meets long haired samson, and she "loved you (him) first" so a first love...and one night she cuts his hair, he eats a slice of wonderbread and goes to bed, and kisses her til the morning light. So where the biblical version samson is betrayed, in this one he is not. Its all about love lost.

If this were to be applied to the story of Samson and Delilah, I personally feel as though rather than a different lover, she IS Delilah. Interpreted this way, the song talks about her love for Samson, which came before her betrayal. When it says "the Bible didn't mention us," this could mean that the Bible talks about Samson as a man, and Delilah as a women of Philistia, but not the two of them together as lovers. It's almost as if she is trying to prove the love they shared existed.

@emmaengevik Actually, it is. I can't remember the details, but I believe a friend of Regina's contracted cancer. From chemotherapy, his hair fell out. Apparently he ate something called Wonderbread (white, sliced bread?). And I believe hew finally died.

Samson was in a relationship. And he got cancer his hair was beautiful. So when his hair was going away it was like he was getting weaker. So ever since the girl came into his life. "the bible didn't mention us" is her projecting that he was worth being famous for being a strong person and great friend, but nobody knew him. it's incredibley poetic, truly regina!

(you are my biggest downfall..) but in this song, i think regina voiced out delilah's point of view ("i loved you first..") and her what if's if she was given the chance to turn back time and her possible future with samson, ect... "history book forgot about us... and the bible didn't mention us, not even once..." that's what i think :)

I'd just like to say that this is about the story of Samson and Delilah. Only if she loved him. They wouldn't break the 'columns' down, and he would live a normal life, eating normal bread and sleeping. They wouldn't be mentioned and would simply live happily together. @ohxbeverly Actually, Samson's hair was not his strength. This is a common misconception based on him telling Delilah this. In fact, he was born a Nazirite and as such was not allowed to cut his hair, when Delilah cuts his hair he breaks this vow so God takes punishes him by taking his strength. If he has broken a different Nazirite vow (such as not drinking alcohol) he would have faced the same fate.
