this fucking game gives me nightmare! man i dreamt of it and i was in some kind of a first person view and this fucking monsters keep coming into me shit all i remember is that i keep blasting them with my weapon.
This is what I think the marker is for (and maybe this is really obvious): There's an extinct alien species that creates markers at the last minute as an attempt to rebuild their species. The marker's job is to create a s***load of death, and then Necromorphs turn the dead into human-alien hybrids. In the end, the marker "makes them whole" by turning the full-alien. Thus, the species lives again.

(The red marker is a copy of the black one that the government made, the government found the black marker and after studying it, tried to build one that changed people differently, appearently they suceeded.). as for people going insane my guess is that its an defensive system of the marker, should it fall in wrong hands (as it did) people just go insane with monstruous allucinations just to start killing each other, so the marker mind has bodies to control and finish the job killing everyone, then rearranging the bodies elements for later reconstruction. nolan stross (in the movie DS:Aftermath) studies a shard of the marker and finds out some interesting stuff about it.

they find this marker on a planet that makes people insane... but where do the monsters come in? are they living on that planet? and what connections do the monsters have with the marker?
@constipationnow The necromorphs originated form the black marker. The dna code from them was taken from the black marker and created by humans in a lab. The necromorphs cant go near any of the markers (i'd guess around 100 feet), this space is named the "Dead Space".

I dont think it explains why they cant go near, in the book a halucination tells the doctor (1st one infected) to run to the marker to stop the infection, but guards shoot him before he gets there, then on the way to his autopsy he turns into a necromorph. also in the first movie the girl is making her final stand and she ends up by the marker, but they just circle around like they can't enter the circle. @hifatpeople The first marker was what the first book was about. They havent told us where it originally came, but it was found on some planet i forgot the name of, deep deep in a swamp. They had a submarine with a drill to get to it. Once it was discovered (and everyone in the submarine died and went crazy), the government took it for research. Altman tried to destroy it but only destroyed the labs. The book ends with the government winning, saying they can still get the marker. more info

He grabs a syringe and injects what he thinks is a sedative, into his arm. but it was actually the sample of necromorph flesh he made. Then his grandma tells him to run to the marker quick, he gets shot by guards that are freaked out by his arm breaking and twisting and stuff like that. more info
@hifatpeople the red marker (original one is black) was made by the government and im guessing they put it there to bring the markers to public eye while fueling the unitology thing cause its a lot easier to control the public with all the crazy stuff going on if they can tell them its the markers fault. It was a fishermen that somehow got infected at sea and drifted ashore. He was still in the early stages of transformation (into one of the air filter necromorphs). They burned it btw, no deaths.

The sprawl starts with a government scientist (crazy guy with a knife in ds2) studying a necro, then accidentally setting it free. 7 months later u get an answer, lol

Actually Dead Space 1's story is like only 7 hours after the necromorph outbreak spreads on Ishimura. You can check that out in Dead Space:Extraction(wii) when Gabe, Nate, Lexine escape from USG Ishimura you can hear the transmission from Kellion which is the beginning of Dead Space 1

They took the Red Marker to Aegis 7 to test fire it, I guess they decided to take it far away from Earth in case something went wrong. And....it's a good job they did lol.
The writing on the marker is a code to create the Necromorph DNA....but the marker also keeps the Hivemind from getting up to any badass antics. Well that's what I was led to believe from playing the game and watching Downfall. Hopefully things will be explained fully in future games!
I know what you mean when you say that. But let's just stay on the positive side here with: Nothing easy is worth having. The things in life worth having take hard work, commitment, and dedication. And along the way a tough mental attitude to keep going while the nagging doubts keep telling us to quit, give up, or it's not worth it. Really, all you've got to do is submit a portfolio with your resume and you're in. Think about it. I believe it's what God wants you to be doing. : )
It's tough though. I have been doing things like this since college to keep me sharp. When there were no job leads in this category I just got a normal job like everyone else. I haven't given up though. Just maintained a focus on surviving and putting my hobbies last.

...But in the end of DS2 the Site 12 Marker starts to self destruct and the space ship/station blows up...
Are there any other human colonies or are those Isaac and that chick the only humans left?

@FlowOD No knowledge of the second but I am sure that order is not too big of factor for purchase. The 2nd will probably be just as great as the first, however, the surprise element will be much more anticipated.

ok so dead space extraction and downfall happened at the same time telling you about how the necro came to be and how they got on the ship, then dead space 1 ure isac trying to find nicole who is already dead. and on dead space 2 ure isac again but in a city in space called sprawl who youll probably meet Nate Lexene and Weller from dead space extraction. ITS ALL COMING TOGETHER!!!! i sorta get it now

The Black Marker was found on Earth, and is actually an alien creation, the Red Marker on Aegis 7 is a man-made replica of the Black Marker.

They took the Red Marker to Aegis 7 to test fire it, I guess they decided to take it far away from Earth in case something went wrong. And....it's a good job they did lol.
The writing on the marker is a code to create the Necromorph DNA....but the marker also keeps the Hivemind from getting up to any badass antics. Well that's what I was led to believe from playing the game and watching Downfall. Hopefully things will be explained fully in future games!

I know what you mean when you say that. But let's just stay on the positive side here with: Nothing easy is worth having. The things in life worth having take hard work, commitment, and dedication. And along the way a tough mental attitude to keep going while the nagging doubts keep telling us to quit, give up, or it's not worth it. Really, all you've got to do is submit a portfolio with your resume and you're in. Think about it. I believe it's what God wants you to be doing. : )

It's tough though. I have been doing things like this since college to keep me sharp. When there were no job leads in this category I just got a normal job like everyone else. I haven't given up though. Just maintained a focus on surviving and putting my hobbies last.
