It's bloody fantastic how many components that need to come together for a really good film.

I watched a movie which had good actors but REALLY crappy director.

The end result was so bad I was in tears laughing my ass off.

Quite true, some otherwise great films are often let down by very bad direction. Sometimes direction can be overly stylized and ends up detracting from what you're supposed to be watching. Some fairly straightforward tv shows like C.S.I miami have often suffered from directors and camera men who just cant keep the damn camera still for more than a nano-second. The over-use of hand held cameras, excessive camera-shake and sudden in-out zooms in a simple office scene drives me nuts!

That was funny when you went on describing the old vid camera with the cassette/battery bag. The only thing I could do with that device was rent it for a few hrs to tape my new kid, 1984. Wow, look how far we have come in 25 yrs with that. The 8mm stuff was real expensive and a pain in the arse with splicing, editing the crap out, discovering the whole shoot was ruined because of light getting in to the film box. Oh ya, you could hear the motor on the audio too. Fuckin crap they were.
