  • i was looking at this game for the ps1 and didn't have money for it, now that i have a working 3do emulator i can download this small piece of awesomeness

  • wow the music is really good

  • i was 14 and lied on my job app saying i was 16 just so i could save up for a 3do. this and the 3do version of road rash got houuuuuuurrrrs of play.

  • The 3DO rocks, they should so release this on xbox live arcade :)

  • one of the first playstation games i played... AWESOME

  • Skeleton says: "A ha ha ha ha ha ha"

    Nice game.

  • Best part of all was the drunk driving you do in the jeep while frantically trying to avoid certain death from your buddy's helicopter because of the road-lock.

  • best death screen ever!

  • Probably my first game with default WASD controls.

  • At least this beats Call of Duty. I love this game! XD

  • "Arrrrrrr-ha-ha-ha-HA-HAAAAaaaaaa"

  • My and my brother used to play as Iran and Iraq when we got this game

  • Good video, thanks for uploading - and btw, you SUCK at driving the Jeep :D

  • I don't think I've ever been more nervous than I was driving the Jeep with the flag back to my base and getting stuck on obstacles.

  • It was 2-player too, right?

  • I've tried to find a download of this game forever, and every one that i find has the same problem: cannot find Language .DLL. I'm windows 7 running it in '95 compatibility mode. Where can i get this .DLL file? Help!

  • It was my childhood mission to get away from carrier and see how long i can survive in hopes of actually reaching another country haha

  • This game was so great!

  • I miss playing that game... and Star Control II

  • i wanna playyyyy lolllllll

  • this reminds me of mass destruction on the saturn

  • this is a remake of the amiga game fire power I've played at that time very often super game

  • Used to love destroying everything on the map, and then having jeep races with my bro haha, was funny how when you were a kid you could make up games within games...good times

  • Getting stuck on an object whilst trying to get the flag home was one of the most nerve wracking moments of my childhood.

  • I remember playing this on my old IBM. Boy, those were the days.

  • omg this game brings so much memories. when i was a child playing the game along with my father ah that's so nostalgic.

  • i use to love this game on the 3DO one of the most funniest game,s ever made they should bring it out for the ps3 and xbox 360

  • where can i download this game... pls help. thank you!

  • where can i download this game... pls help. thank you!

  • One of my favorite games of all time. And I agree with agetro82, the music makes this game extremely funny and entertaining to play. When you're in your jeep and you've got the flag, and your running for your life and lobbing grenades around like a madman...and then "Flight of the Bumblebee" starts playing...that shit is amazing. Then if you win, Lou Gehrig recites his famous speech. Fantastic game.

  • @Albeleo And yeah, I got confused, the race back to base with the flag was The William Tell Overture. My bad.

  • reminds me of mass destruction on saturn

  • I LOVED this game on the PS1. I still have a copy.

  • This game was AWESOME!! They need to release it for one of the online versions of a modern game system (WiiWare please oh please OH PLEASE!!!!!!)

This game was ok as single player, but it was best as multiplayer. If you ain't talkin' trash, then it's not really any fun

  • oh damn i remember playing this on the " games for windows 95" cd rom back in the day. great game as i remember it

  • Bad ass game. one of the funnest games ive ever played. The music, split screen, and the map designs made this a super cool game.

  • I like how all the sound effects of men dying, are from Goldeneye N64

  • @liquid49286 this game was relased BEFORE golden eye 64

  • Is this open source yet? It'd be awesome to see someone remake this as a online web-based direct port multiplayer game!

  • 3do return fire was a good lovely looking atmospheric game. But really there was so so much more potential in this game to have many better sequels .The

1 player version on 3do is very v limited once the initial novelty wears off. 2 player is where the longevity is, but the game would have been much much better if it had more vehicle types, more enemy vehicles, ability to win experience points for vehicle battles won, different landscapes (snow, sea and city) & more comman and conquer style

  • loved the hell out of this game. it was so much fun 2 player! plus the skull was badass.

  • Nice game for a horrible console.

  • some web site sayed this was 3Do best selling game

  • Simple yet super fun when played with a friend

  • miss this game so much ....upgraded to ps3 they need it in the ps store for download

  • funnest thing to do is take the jeep out to sea, then try to outrun the submarine's missiles.. never worked.. but still fun

  • So much fun when I used to play this against my brother when we were kids

  • I want a sequel game for PS3,

    with the same music,

with the same two player split srceen,

with the same camera view not in egoview,

    with better graphics,

    with more vehicles.

  • There will allways be dissagreement over what game suck and what good but that's emotions.

I used up all my space on the last... so this is the rest.

  • Are you crazy? Have you ever experienced 3DO from PANASONIC? It was the ultimate 32 bit interactive multiplayer system...

RETURN FIRE is a funny war game, where you control a jeep, a helicopter and also a tank to see who captures the flag 1st. It does have humor, its fun to play alone or multiplayer and also delight gamers with an amazing classical soundtrack. GRAPHICS ain't all in terms of game. A kick ass game, fun even today.

  • @TheGamerClubber I agree the fact that graphics ain't all in a game, it is just the polish of a game. But this is a game where you fly and kill enemy in a very booring way. I am sure it WAS a great game when it was releast back in the days but everything expires on date eaven classic games. Take Firewarrior for example I love that game.. It has a great history and allright graphics. Allot of the folks in my class thinks the game sucks!

  • @malingmann I do respect your opinion...but you HAVE TO PLAY a game before judging. Believe me, its a good game. And when you are against a partner, its gets even funnier. I have a PS3, but can't deny this one still, even nowadays, a good game to play. I have more fun with this game than, for example, SAW for PS3.

  • I put so many hours into this game on my 3DO. Still one of my favorite systems from yesterday.

  • I just figured out you can put the Playstation version of the game in a cd player and listen to the music....I'm so happy right now

  • Comment removed

  • I think the soundtrack is formed by:

    - The Ride of the Valkyries - Wagner

    - The Planets, Mars, The Bringer of War - G.Holst

    - Dies Irae - Verdi

    - William Tell Overture

  • @sakrilehioHATECREW Very good, but there's also Flight of the Bumblebee (jeep), In the Hall of the Mountain King (ASV) and The Hallelujah Chorus (flag reveal). I produced this game at Silent and had to use my classical education for something! Glad to see people still like this game! ;)

  • @bendix5

Thank you for Producing this game. I'm now in my 30'ies and have very fond memories of playing this game with my friends. It would be great i you guys came back and did a simple remake with some new maps and high resolution 2D graphics. No need fancy stuff! What makes this game is the humor, of it. Don't go for too much of a cartoony look. Go for same vehicles, update the soundtrack with more classic tunes with the same humor, with the option to use the original soundtrack. PSN downl

  • @bendix5 Bro, this was one of my favorite games of all time.... Only 4 megabytes, but back in the day it took 3 hours to download this game. Thanks again old friend.

  • @bendix5 If you get this message, and I hope you do, I'm 26, and however old I was when I played this game on the PSX made a PROFOUND impact upon me and the RTS/TD genres. I still listen to the classical music, and I hunted down a copy of Return Fire just to have it in my collection. No luck getting Return Fire 2, which I have yet to play. Thank you for your contribution from one who considers himself a virtuoso of video games.

  • Oh Dear! I remember I always forget how to control the helicopter, the L1 R1... Oh Dear!! the beautiful soundtrack!!.....LOL I was looking for that laugh.. it's always mekes me laugh and still LOL!!...I miss it.

  • what are the soundtracks in this? i know one of them is hallelujah, and flight of the bumble bee..whats the other ones?

  • "The Ride Of The Valkyries"

  • At such moments, I cry ... Great game!!!

  • one of my favorite soundtracks.

  • 2:58, most aggrovating laugh ive ever heard.

  • sweet memories......

  • oh god what a great music!!!

  • LOL i loved this game. ah so much fun lol

  • God I love this game!!!

  • it looks like gta 1 and 2 and london

  • what is the name of the song they play when your killing people lol

  • Hall of the mointain king?!

  • Classic, classic memories.

  • thanks dude for putting this up--now I remember how many hundreds of hours I put into this game--for some reason, I found the 3DO version irresistible and played it just about every waking moment (besides NFS, of course). I definitely liked the rocket laucher, but my favorite was the helicoptor, where you could make a swooping attack to wipe out the mines, and then send in your tanks to mop it. Awesome fun! Gotta love that music, too, talk about getting pumped!

  • Who havnt play that demo lol

  • looks like fire power for the amiga

  • This is a sequel to Fire Power

  • Oh .. guess that is a good reason for them looking the same

  • its funnier on vs mode i should add

  • my favourite part was when you lose a vehicle and that skull pops up and laughs

  • YES! that is EXACTLY the best part of this game that i LOVE!

  • @thedeterminator01 ahhhhhh.. HA HA HA Haaaaa ....

  • What made this game so great was the music it used for each vehicle:

Helicopter-Ride of the Valkyries (a la Apocalypse Now, the quintessential helicopter assault theme)

Tank-Mars from The Planets (hard hitting and very epic)

APC-In the Hall of the Mountain King (starts off slow and light for the run to the base and then hits hard when in combat)

    and of course, the Jeep...

Flight of the Bumblebee (very fast tune en route to the base) and The William Tell Overture (for the race home!)

    EPIC!

  • Reminds me of "Mass Destruction" for Playstation. Great game!

  • bring me sooooo much memories along with firepower on the amiga...

  • can we play this on pc or something else than 3d0

  • yeah...brings old memories, i used to play this game with my dad

  • I loved this game.

Bringing the flag home was the greatest ;D

  • haha shit I haven't played this game in like 10 years, fuck this was the funnest game ever!

  • this game is so awesome !

  • The Game is so funny. I can download the gane for PC but i can't play it, because my PC is to good. This game only need the 256 color mode. I can only Choose 16 or 32 bit. This is crap :(

  • Mate, can you plz give me the link to download the PC version..I really love this game and I can make it work in VISTA (or atleast I hope so ;) ) I'll be grateful if you reply. Cheers !

  • Oh man I loved this game!!!

  • pretty good graphics for that time i must say

  • i just had a demo of this for PC and it was still one of the most addicting and fun games I've ever played.

  • i loved this game in mulitplayer

  • Can you play this PS game on PS3?

  • Anyone else realize that the cries of the soldiers in this game are the same used in N64's Goldeneye when you shot the soldiers??

  • It was one of my favourite games on PSone, i want a sequel on PS3 !!!

With better graphics, the same sound,

    and the same gameplay !!!

  • Right in Return Fire 2, does anyone know what the music for the boat and the jet were?

  • Oh, by the way, best game on the 3DO hands down.

  • I had this game for the 3DO and the PlayStation.

After looking at it again after all these years I've realized that it looks like an updated version of Jackel on the NES.

  • the music was great in this game. i miss my 3do

  • Best game ever!!!

  • aaaaaahhhh, HA HA HA HA Haaaaa ! ! ...

  • rofl

  • Hey I used to play this game when I was a child and today I intalled it in my PC but it won't run:( I guess it's Windows Vista.

Does anybody know how can I make it work? I tried compatibility mode with W 95, 256 colors, but nothing happens, keeps saying FATAL ERROR

  • Comment removed

  • this was and is the most frantic 2 player game ever. bombing it back home in the jeep with the flag getting chased down by your opponent in a chopper with ride of the valkyries playing will forever be 100% winsauce.

  • XD 5:35 to 5:38... XD Really!?

  • This game freaking rules!!! I own the PSX version. The Two Player mode was great as well.

  • You know why I need to kill these guys? Because we don't negotiate with terrorists.

  • Comment removed

  • i had more fun playing the DEMO of this game than i do with any other game nowadays. maybe great graphics arent all that important.

  • they aren't unless they make a remake of goldeneye 007

  • Does anyone know the names of the songs from this game please?

  • Alot of classical... Flight of the Valkeryies and Carmina Burana.

  • best 3do game ever

  • No, that would be either Road Rash or Star Control II. This game still rocks though.

  • This game was the " gold standard " for

3DO. It was also the best 2-Player games I can remember. Companies today can learn alot from this one. If you owned a 3DO like I did, this game is a slice of gaming heaven.

  • this game needs to come out on xbox live

  • OMG I LOVE this game!

  • Ah the 3DO. Of all the consoles I ever owned this is the one I sold and boy do I regret it. Having access to games like this in 1995, and a 64 bit cd based console that was more powerful than the Nintendo 64 and the Sony Playstation was an excellent thing.

  • i love when u find the flag and they sing alleheluia

  • this game is a classic I remember back in the day when my cousin used to download the demo for us and it took like the whole night to download it so we could play it the following day

  • ...the best 2 player game ever made...right here.

  • I used to love playing this against my best friend when I was young. The music was awesome! I always wanted to see a PS port of it. This would make a great PS Store download game.

  • There is a Playstation version of this game. Though it's not in the downloadable store as far as I know.

I got mine off eBay like a year ago, usually runs what a full priced game cost now, but it's worth it. This game is boss! I have the same story as you. I used to play this game against my best friend at the time.

He would beat me much more times than I beat him, but massive fun was had nontheless.

  • To me this is one of the best games i've ever played!

  • this game kicked ass

  • Hey can anyone please tell me the song name of:

When u pick up the flag, that music

    I really want it. cheers

  • It's "The Ride of the Valkyries"

  • thanks for posting, I frick'n loved this game. When the music slowly fades in...love it!

  • Is this game downloadable somewere. love it but i dont have it :((

  • Hey thanks for posting this! I was the producer of this game and it brings back many fine memories. I don't have a 3DO box anymore and wonder if you would mind posting two more things from the game: the opening sequence and the submarine kills the helicopter sequence (fly out to sea and a sub will appear) Thanks! AK

  • Well if you are who you ay you are.. A salute is needed for creating (in my opinion) the best 3D0 game the console had in its short life... This video inspired my to re-hookup my R.E.A.L. panasonic 3D0 system, and now that system and this game (among many others) are now a staple in my community, as everyone used to come over for the X360 gaming nights... now its 3D0 return fire nights....

This was also my first true player vs player game that i had ever played. Salute (flight of the bumblebee)

  • You're very kind and yeah, it's really me. I'm heartened to hear the game is still being played. Every time I run into someone who played that game they always talk about it. A great two player game -- also be sure and pump up the sub woofer, I put in 6 and 16 hz explosions for maximum effect! Also, if you're still playing, try getting the sub's missile to down your opponent - it will work and is very effective. Just get them closer to the missile than you. It really is heat seeking. AK

  • Sounds like a classic manouver (are you talking about leading the missle ALL THE WAY back to the enemy, or brining the enemy closer to the map limits?) Well, Im creating my first video for youtube... A tribute if you may... Towards the marvel of classic (i mean classic like "Space Quest" classic) gaming, based on the "Wow" factor of the past gaming generation, when it took more than on-screen engine glitter to amaze the mind.

One thing amazed me more than any unreal engine...

    Inflatable Tires

  • Would love to see it. I'll subscribe to you. Yes, the tires were fun - although my favorite is stil the sub, consider that most of it is sound effects! Any -- great to see fans.

  • KUDOS!

Seriously, one of the greatest games of all time right here. Thanks for making it a reality. So many memories :)

Wish more devs would focus on two player like this. Classic.

  • Was you involved with the PS1 port? always wondered if it was better or worse. Loved this game, I made a top 40 3DO games for my website and I put Return Fire in 4th.

  • I left the company as it was starting but am still friends with the producer of that version. As I recall it was done mostly by a German guy who loved the 3DO version and put a lot of time into it getting it right - and the port is really good. What is your website and what made #1?

  • my website is called retro-sanctuary (com) I'm a humoungous Star Control 2 fan so that was number one, followed by Street Fighter 2, 3rd was very difficult as I like Return Fire and Space Hulk equally, I ended up putting Space Hulk higher just because of it's long in-depth single player modes, tbh 3rd could've gone either way it was that close :)

  • Wow i loved this game on its release, i remember me and a friend playing it to death it was awesome. One day we even played it non stop for 24 hours, what a marathon that was, a classic

  • OMG, LOVED THIS GAME! 3DO Was PIMP!

  • amazing game. the only problem was that i was so much better than my friends at this game so multiplayer wasn't always fun.

  • anyone know how to play this on computer now? like on vista/xp? ive got the installer but it wont run on the current OS

  • Compatibility mode, 256 colours and you should be good to go. I have mine set as windows 95 and 256 and it runs like a dream.

  • lol phukin awesome!!! I remember this being one of my favs on the 3do, especially when you ran over the tents and heard the splatter LOL!!! and the audio track, lol such a great!!

  • i never heard that Panasonic have video game :-S

how come they stop making Panasonic video game?

  • That game had the best music ever for a war game!

  • Oh my god, I remember I used to play this back when I was 7 or so. Damn, it's 12 years ago, and I still remember it so well. Good times^^

  • I love this game... i played it on my computer... awesome

  • nice music nice game

  • love when you die and the skull laughs at you

  • I remember this game, damn what a classic, I loved it alot when I was a kid. this brings back the memories.

  • I remember playing thois game alot, but on what on whit whom I don't remember. But it was freaking awesome, that I remember :D

  • This game was so freaking kool...I used to play for hours back in the day... Loved Satr Control II also... Ahh... the memories....lol

  • Do you know where i can get a sound byte of JUST the laugh from when you die?

  • Yes it's really easy :) You have to set 16bit color mode and then use comtabilty mode

  • TOO FREAKIN' COOL MAN!!!

oh man i had to send my 360 in to get repaired, so i booted up my 3d0 and have been having a blast with all those classics

(GEX..woo) (Flashback..woooo) (Shockwave..WOOOOO) (SSF2 Turbo, PO'ed, Crash n burn, Incredible machine, AND THE HORDE oh yea)

  • You rock! :)

  • I know I rock... You can't say your a hardcore gamer if you dont own a Panisonic 3D0

But man... I actually have my 360 back now, and im still playing The Horde (fucking hard)

and the classic Alone In The Dark (I refuse to look at walkthroughs) so its taking me a while. Its interesting as i was young when i aquirred my 3D0 and therefore did not have the patience to sit though a long difficult game. Classics they are,... classics they are

  • Yeah dude, all that is fine and great... but you do know it's 3DO not 3D0... right? (OW not ZEROW)... ugh...

Anyway, congrats for your taste in games and respect for the classics. :)

  • Oh of COURSE!!

I used zeros in the three-dee-ohhh

Did you know that after the system flopped, 3d0 became a 3rd party developer (like SEGA) and created games such as the original "Army men" series. Unfortunatly that was pretty much it for the company.

I keep on getting flashbacks of starting up the console and watching that tank roll accross the screen, only to blast away the 3D0 symbol in all of the early 90's surround sound glory. I think that was the first time that console sound "WOW'd" me.

  • Hah! To 3DO's credit they let us do that to their logo. Little did we know it would happen for real. Return Fire was the very first video game in Dolby Surround. My attitude was: I wanted you to know why you spent the time and effort putting in those back speakers and made sure you could hear the 3DO pieces fly behind you. I personally took it to Dolby for processing and the whole team there came in to see it. I'm glad it wowed you! AK

  • Return Fire was much better on the 3D0 than the Playstation. It was more cartoony on the Playstation. Just wasn't the same.

  • I had great fun with this back in the day and found it again but can't run it on my XP. A DOS emulator was unhelpful. Does anybody know how to run it on XP?
