  • this is art!!!

  • Don't compare, appreciate both for their uniqueness!

  • 2:31 omfg

  • I always get so giddy watching this video, seeing a man display near-virtuosity on two instruments in the course of less than 2 minutes isn't very common.

  • Shed a tear, crack a smile, ahh memories, ahh Focus............I thank you xxx

  • THIS is music...

  • Oops. Showing my age. It's from Mother Focus, not Ship of Memories. Well, it was over 35 years ago...

  • Yo i might be high but that song is amazing

  • The guitarist pulled off a sweep... crazy man.

  • it must take a lot of breath to play a flute

  • We came here for focus not for the fact that some idiots disliked it. Eternal live for Focus!!!

  • The drummer is boss throughout the whole jazz section, adding substance to the rythm without being too overwheming, and you don't realise how much you're hearing the bassist in the rock section until the guitar soos come along, those two did excellently.

  • THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • @dvidgreen - flute became a rocking instrument ever since Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) invented it to be a rocking instrument in the late 60's ... cheers rodolforibas, you were here 2 days before and you're right mate ;-)

  • @lorendavidsonmusic not compare!!!

  • Sounds like Popeye... I LOVE IT !!

  • Thijs Van Leer is killin' it on that flute solo. He can play some B3 too. And his vocal imrov is genuine. Nice 12/8 feel. Great band!

  • bonkers, but true masters, awesome musicians , and songs that will always be played, probably the best band the seventies gave us, akerman is one of the best guitarist who walked the planet, if not the best, a pick flickin superman ,, awesome melodic speed ,, and when your that good , he can say what ever he likes,;period,

  • @dvidgreen Do a search for "Jethro Tull".

  • These guys are great!

  • these guys are on speed or something like that

  • Ian Anderson does a good job as well!!

  • Ammazza ke schifo de flautista...sta sempre sul do e sul si...insomma facesse qualche volta a casa qualche scaletta...ke gli fa bene.E' proprio una merda.

  • too bad the lead guitarist is a ball sucker because this song used to rock.

    riod

    fuck yall

  • one of my favorits

  • 14 people can't yodel

  • Simply amazing ...

  • Great tune! Somehow thought it was always Jethro Tull. I wonder if a-ha, the 80s group got their inspiration from Focus?

  • he's wearing a wedding ring, i would love to see the woman who married this man.

  • @Jammaz99 I would totally marry this man.

  • What are they laughing about at 3:20?

  • OK. Shocking Blue used to be my favorite Dutch band. Now THESE guys are.

    Amazing music talent!

  • ahhyea! Nice to see this again, all of them superbly skilled musicians. Best Dutch rock band ever!

  • lol why does the guitar player look like he saw this guy yodal for the first time?

  • Absolute genius...

  • @dvidgreen well, listen to some Jethro Tull then to be further enlighted by the rock flute...their frontman Ian Anderson is a bloody flutistic genius:-P!

  • Me desculpe a alteridade, mas 14 pessoas são muito idiotas. Ou simplesmente nunca smokaram comanha.

  • Me desculpe a alteridade, mas 14 pessoas são muito idiotas.

  • this was the kind of band that when play live people can listen clearly all instruments, and they're all in perfect harmony

  • Excellent musicians having Great Fun! I love it!

  • If you like Tool, you'll like this.

If you like this' you'll like tool.

  • this is the song to isten to when writing beatnik poetry

  • los amo

  • 3:19 weed... XD

  • Right on, brother.

  • stick that blunt in your face and smoke it!!

  • I LOVE how when Thijs van Leer is yodeling, the guitar player hits his blunt! Classic track, btw.

  • i dont smell anything

  • this is why i wish i could have been a teenager in the 70's

  • oh my god I dont need drugs as long as I can hear focus...

  • just skip to 4:02

  • I was born too late. Now there's rap :(

  • @bbunters

You can still see 'focus' live, but akkerman and thijs together sadly.. 'focus' are bloody excellent tho. Thijs has a hell alot of energy.

  • Now thats what I call a good blow job! lol

  • fantastic video

  • At 2:45 Jan does THE first ever SWEEP picking lick, as far as I know. Gambale came afterwards and is -de facto - a clone... ;-)

  • @MatsOrbation Think it was Ritchie Blackmore who first did one on El.guitar but maybe I'm wrong :)) Still Jan is another great magician !!!

  • The flute player in this song reminds me of whats-his-name from Jethro Tull (both the look/mannerisms and the sound)

  • @Oldiesmann Ian Anderson

  • @cachaslokas Wrong my friend. The flutist is Thijs van leer.

  • don't make em like they used to, such a shame for the Berber generation

  • Focus is the best thing that came to my childhood

  • lol wtf!!!

at 4:53 the yodeling guy starts looking at the guitarist, but the guitarist only thinks "damnit, youre so stoned man, watch yourself.." and starts smilling and the yodeling one turns for a short moment to the camera with a satisfied look and is thinking " say what?!?!"

the song is somehow quite addicting, i heard it 3 day ago the first time and now the 100th time =)

those guys defenitely made their thing (i mean concerning their music...)

  • yeah, they were def. brilliant musicians. - the yodeling guy was also a mullet pioneer.

  • @subgenius2012

    loooooool brillant!

I've got the feeling that you need a mullet to be a musical genius! There are plenty of exemples and he's one of them!

  • Does anyone recognise the model of amp behind Jan Akkerman?

  • @oldsyphilitic

I think it is a fender Bassmann very commonly used as a giutar amp in those days

  • @eriksoer Thanks, but I'm not so sure- I think I would have recognised it if it was. In fact the whole layout of controls looks very unlike any fender valve guitar or bass amp I've ever seen and I wondered from the style if it was one of the second generation transistor amps, perhaps not Jan's but perhaps the bassist's. I'm not being dogmatic about this. I'm genuinely uncertain, although it's appeared in other film of the band from this oeriod.

  • " PAUSA MUSICALE? QUESTA MERITA."

  • dutch people rule!!!

  • yeah make that 14 bullets! and maybe 14 sacks, some concrete and a very deep abyss

  • /gives 14 bullets....

  • These guys are still ahead of there time.

  • genius

  • Those of you that don't think the flute is a rock instrument probably forgot about Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull

  • Comment removed

  • Specifically around 2.00

  • . . .Am I the only one who thinks some parts (keyboard) sounds like final fantasy music?

  • @TheChopstickWitch Sounds a fucking lot! Reminds me a bunch of VII and a bit of VIII and IX.

  • @TheChopstickWitch Listen to a few of Thijs solo stuff, I think one song is called Pastorale, and all you can hear is nobuo's classic style to a tee. They both must have had the same composer as a major influence. I would love to find out who and listen to it.

  • lol i love how jan akkerman starts smirking when the yodeling starts

  • It gets sweet from 2:37 onwards, the rest beforehand sounds like a shitmonster fighting a cat.

  • They were (are) really good! They played with the music. Tnx for posting.

  • looks like 1050 people missed the dislike button

  • @Liekkek This guy knows the truth.

  • @Liekkek Your are gay

  • @PaulThe123 'your are gay'? brilliant.

  • @Liekkek more like the 14 who clicked dislike need to be shot, focus were awesome and this song is pure genius.

  • @LilTattooedWhore shot for not liking this gay flute music? rofl

  • @Liekkek jethro tull would be disappointed that you said that. dick

  • @tittydick5000 who?

  • @Liekkek so Jethro Tull is gay?

  • @notafraidoffuture probably lol i've never heard them but if they're anything like this band then yes they're probably gay

  • @Liekkek So maybe you should listen to some samples of someone's music before you comment on their sexual orientation :) So have you checked out Jethro Tull yet? I recommend Aqualung or maybe Locomotive Breath for starters. You may not like the yodeling on this but these guys are good musicians. Guitarist way ahead of his time in the 70's

  • He's no Ron Burgundy...

  • Can anyone tell me what is the first piece before they launch into Hocus Pocus? Thanks.

  • @bgwcl Eruption

  • LOVE these guys - lead singer is crazy but great! You can see they are laughing at it too..

  • does anybody else smell weed?????

  • @bigwo56

  • @bigwo56 Id be amazed if it was only weed

  • Yeh, that´s my mother in law

  • It's more like cocaine

  • A real delight! Thanks for a wonderful rendition of Hocus Pocus! Incidentally, I'm getting old howadays and had forgotten all about Focus and how excellent they were. I have Steve Coogan and Saxondale to thank for the re-acquaintance.

  • we 999 like the song--10 fukers dislike this piece of art, oh!!! well go listen to your trash (Jonas Bros and Hannah Montana)

  • This vid is completely G R E A T !!!

  • Thank You Focus, brilliant

  • 4:11 Jan plays a lick from the opera Carmen! I love how they laugh at Thijs' operatics.
