I guess it's mostly about knowing the history. I know a guy who uses emo as a negative label and praises The Saddest Landscape in the same breath. I guess people will always eventually find good music, they just might not know its historical context when they do.

I Hate Myself was a PUNG side project that was entirely designed to poke fun at South Florida emocore and everything about this song is exaggerated to the umpteenth degree for comic effect. Yeah I still use the emo term, but I always have to disclaimer it and always say it wasn't about how you dressed, but how you felt. The best emo bands started off just wearing everyday regular clothes and didn't have to be in a scene.
