I loved this movie in high school, and I still love it today. Why? Because....hell, it's FUN! It is glittery, ridiculous, over-the-top, Classic Pop Hits of the Eighties camp, and I love it for holding nothing back (even though doing so might have made it a lot more coherent in some ways.)
It struck me as the kind of movie a director has DREAMT of doing--something that's totally indulgent and wacky and memorable. And I can appreciate that.
@bubblesishot46853 i dunno about that, i think he forgot to put it in there like he forgot to make the two headed dragon scene a big lipped alligator moment
I gotta go with NC on this one;A mediocre story chock-ful of plot-holes which they attempted to disguise with gargantuan amounts of rapid-fire editing.I liked some of the visuals in this, but not enough to make me tolerate watching it a second time.
I read why Baz Luhrmann chose to do a score made up entirely of other people's music, but his reasons aren't good enough for me.Call me old-fashioned,but if I'm going to watch a new MUSICAL,I want new MUSIC!!!
If Doug Walker ever does kick the bucket, they should perform 'The Review must go on' with all of his friends and associates joining together; kinda like what they did at Jim Henson's funeral with 'If just one person.'
To this day, people like Nostalgia Critic will feel alone when it comes to the opinions of certain media hits. like for him, Moulin Rouge and for other people it could be Twilight, it could be Avatar *cough my brother*cough*, or even The Dark Knight.
It's a testament to the talents of the ThatGuyWithTheGlasses crew that, even though I love this movie alot, this is by far my favorite Nostalgia Critic video!
After watching this review and seeing how bad it is, I called up my cousin and told him about watching this review. He said that to not listen to the review and watch the film. So I took his advice and watched this film. And boy, now I'm regretting it. Why did I even listen to him, this film was a pain to sit through beginning to end!!!!
I've always wondered about the scene where Setee tries to seduce the duke in her theatrically crazed movements. I dunno about u, but it doesn't look seductive. It just looks like she's a crazy chick. Even if the duke is mostly distracted by her sex appeal, any sane man would be asking if there's something wrong with this hoe and should they quickly boot out before they get smothered by Looney-Tunes-meets-Broadway.
I feel like this could have been a really good movie if there were several changes. Maybe if they actually analyzed love and romance in a mature way instead of using cliches. (Love is an interesting topic, it's just been really ruined in movies by hollywood style romance and teen vampires, but it would have provided for a more interesting story) Also if it removed the fight for the bordello, and just went with a story of the people backstage, that would have been a great improvement.
Wow. I can sympathize with the Critic. Every now and then, a horrible shitfest of a flick comes out that everybody loves, INCLUDING THE REVIEWERS, even though it's a repulsive fuckfest, that makes Uve Boll look like a cinematic genious by comparison.
I love Nostalgia Critic, but how can he bash or make fun of this classic masterpiece!! It's like making fun or bash La Mona Lisa or The Sixteen Chapel! I saw many of his favorite movies and many of them are actually a little weird but artistic, how can he thinks that this movie is ridiculous?
P.S: I respect his opinion but maybe he went a little far on this.
@comaster2 Calm yourself, honey. I'm a big fan of this movie, too. Only thing is that I found this review hilarious. It's okay for someone to poke fun at the obvious flaws this movie has. It's not perfect at all. Far from it.
@comaster2 Oh, come now. It's a matter of taste. It's like taking offense from somebody who says they don't like to eat sushi while you happen to enjoy it.
@comaster2 there are as many tastes as there are people my dear. I fell in love with the movie lost in translation way before I heard Doug´s comment about it, and even though to (surprisingly?) many it seems boring, I love it. Sure if you take a look at the so called mainstream of movies today, it is different. But so are all those ppl around the world who enjoy the ever growing world of movies :) all of them agreed that this movie has it´s flaws, as WELL as smth good ;) like any movie.
OK! OK! I WILL CHILL OUT! But is hypocritical to compain about many reviewer's opinions but not the Nostalgia Critic. If everybody is entitled to his opinion then NOBODY should have that right to complain about somebody's funny opinion, no matter how wrong they are because it's only a joke. (that includes Irate Gamer).
P.S: I am not the only one who complains for some of the Critic's reviews. Let's not forget Mortal Kombat. That movie didn't deserved that kind of review.
I was reading a magazine yesterday that has all the films that are showing over the Christmas holidays. I got all excited when I saw Moulin Rouge. I went to my mum screaming, "IT'S MOULIN ROUGE! MOULIN ROUGE IS ON!" It's a well-known fact in my house that my mum LOATHES that movie, so she wasn't impressed. Then I told her about the review and she STILL doesn't understand why I want to see it. I want to see it to see how bad it is. OK, Mum? XD
I've never seen Moulin Rouge, but my goodness this video was fun. This is easily my favorite nostalgia critic video. There was a big smile on my face from beginning to end. Thanks and congratulations to everyone involved for making something so wonderful, especially to Brent for writing the songs. I think you guys just set the bar for what a "youtube video" can be.
That was hilarious! I didn't realize they turned the review into a musical until I was like 29mins in....after bopping along to all the songs lol.
The NS chick can sing! She has such a pretty voice. & I've never seen anything by that Brent guy, but he had me laughing so hard. 'Grab a girly beer!' I usually hate the crossovers (except Ferngully), but this was so funny.
I think my guilty pleasure is watching Showgirls even though the acting sucks, the dances are stupid, & the dialogue is lame
at 17:54 he said "elephant" is the BK on vacation or something where is he? that's his cue! oh yeah in the sonic commentary he said he's done with that I think it sucks balls that it stopped! I always laughed at that!
i don't think nc categorizing this as a "typical art film" is fair. this is not a real art film, and not THAT bad actually (it IS definitely overrated). and brentalfloss should definitely put the "it's fun" song on itunes. hilarious review.
I gotta say, this is properly the best Nostalgia Critic review I've seen. This was just so fucking awesome!
