I did mean 381 hp to the crank. I guess I should have clarified that. I wasn't going to guess the r.w.h.p. because I've never looked at a Tundra's dyno sheet. What I can say for sure is that a stock GM 5.3 liter is going to need a nice list of mods to run with one of these stock 5.7 liter Tundras.
Those Tundras are strong. They come from the factory with 4.30s in the rear end. Factor that in with their 381 hp motor, and you have an animal. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the largest gears a Silverado 1500 can come with from the factory is 3.73. The '09 and up Dodge Ram 1500s can only get up to 3.92s in the normal trucks, and 4.10s if you order the R/T.
I'm not rooting for the Tundra. I'm just merely stating why they're quick right from the factory.
381hp? Maybe to the crank. No one cares about what they claim on T.V., or in a brochure. Actual r.w.h.p. is probably more realistically around 300-320. And as far as it being clash of the 5.7L., last that I checked GM is not currently making a 350 for their trucks, they are using a 323ciu.

I don't know where you got your facts from but they are incorrect. GM got 370hp from the 1970 version of the 5.7 and 350 out of the LS1 in 2004. Say what you will but it's sad that Toyota can only get 381hp out of a 5.7 and it's 2010. Either way why are you talking about HP in a conversation about trucks? HP doesn't mean shit when it comes to a truck.

GM is just a company that owns the brand Chevrolet. Still it's 2010 and Toyota still has a low HP and TORQUE rating for their "superior" engineering.

I just want you all to know that GM builds pretty reliable V8s you just need to change the oil and transmission fluid and filter and keep it up to par and it will out last any other V8 out there i know that for a fact. Just look at all the old chevys out there on the road. Everyone could build a reliable engine if they wanted to but that would be bad for business no one would ever need any parts or a new car. So i think that they are all ok but my pick is any GM vehicle and thats my opinion.
Thats cool so if you get one or the other put some videos up on youtube of it. I like the new camaro because the 3.6l V6 has 304 hp and thats alot for a V6. Thats more than the mustang GT 4.6l V8 with 300 hp. Thats one reason why i think GM is good.
You guys talk about Chevy , Ford and Dodge while Chevy is my favorite these are the AMERICAN companies that made automobiles great. So have some respect for them I have heard on the Tundras having their share or problems. Using oil/smoking, horrific fuel mileage, engine knocking etc... Every brand has problems now and then.

Tundras aren't imported, also, I own a stock 5.7 tundra and it has stronger acceleration than my 96 Impala SS did. Please don't flame me, I know they're very different engine/transmission wise and over a decade apart in development. I wound up with a Tundra because GM would not get serious about reasonable pricing. The Tundra is a far better value, and cheaper to boot. You can just call me one happy former GM guy.

one it probably just has a cam swap with ls springs and heads. Forged pistons? never heard of that on a 5.3 and aluminum block? like thats a damn mod. shows your stupidity. The 5.3 comes in either alum or iron block. I will say it again my custom tuned 5.3 as never been beaten by a 5.7 tundra we were even the whole way both extended cabs.

tundra's are overrated. Ive seen a reg cab run a 15.2 1/4 all day long. Ive raced a 4dr and stayed dead even. You can do soo much work to any chevy truck engine, whether 5.3, 6.0 or 8.1 why go buy a plastic jap engine?

i have owned a duramax LBZ. A 4wd with a gasser will not be faster they don't have anything to spool up. My lbz with PPE no 4wd launch ran a 13.8 and once i got the suncoast trans i never went back but it would easily hit 12's. keep driving your little import and thinking you are cool. Also, don't complain when all the plastic comes apart, or the tailgate breaks, bed bounces, camshafts go out, trans fall out or anything else the new tundra has faced problem wise. BUY AMERICAN
i have talked to countless people online with the same truck that have proof that the gas tundra is a bit quicker in 4wd but whatever im shure the 20 of them and their time slips are all wrong and your right... ps it doesnt matter if you have anything to spool up if i punch the gas and spin out then i have more than enough power to be benefited by launching in 4wd

also just for the record we did do it again this summer when the SS GMC was on 24"rims and the tundra installed an intake and exhaust on 20inch rims and the race was dead even to 70mph and then the SS pulled a couple lengths to 100mph.
its pretty simple guys, its a stock vehicle vs. a modified vehicle 5.3 vs. 5.7....NOT 6.0 NOT supercharged,NOT half throttle, WIDE OPEN both trucks 0-80, we did this race last winter 3 times and this was the closest thats why i posted it.
An obvious flaw in the comparison of acceleration: The Tundra 5.7 engine sound(very familiar to me) shift to 3rd at 11 seconds of WOT. That means it's getting to 70-75(it varies on how warmed up the engine is) before it shifts to 3rd. Mine may be the quickest model 5.7L RCSB 2WD but it gets to third with about 7 or less. Maybe the guy gave it partial throttle to begin with and wasted a second but a real Tundra as described would be about to redline 3rd by the time this finished 2nd.

Have you not heard that GM has a new 6.2l engine out and with 3.73s that will beat the new tundra not by much but it still beats it. I mean only in the chevy truck cause the gmc has different options on it. They care more about the durability and pulling power of their trucks. After all that what trucks are for!
I like the tundra but when toyota came out with the S/C for it that made think that they are trying to hard to be the best in class hp. They wanted to make a truck with as much if not more power than all the other companies. They spent along time on this engine to make sure of that. I just perfer a GM over them because they have so many old trucks still on the road and my family has had really good luck with them and we use them to their fullest extent. They just keep going and going!
I believe you are forgetting that toyota has really old trucks on the road too, but they did not have bigger trucks now they do, I had a 95 T100 with over 220,000 miles and I only had to change a clutch master cylinder because I was doing too many burnouts on clutch dumping. Now i have an 05 tundra and my T100 still running.

What exactly done to the silverado, Cause i had a stock 99 silverado ex-cab 4x4 z71 with just exaust, and now have a tundra crew-max 4x4 trd bone stock, and my silverado would have never come close to my tundra and have raced an 08 vortec max (was pretty close but still won) so i know for a fact the stock 5.3 would not have been nearly as good a race much less stomp my ass like this truck did. not bashin, just wanderin what mods cause that is a seriously fast truck to beat a 5.7 that badly.
the ssg has a 220 thunder race cam, nelson performance tune, bbk throttle body, 3 angle valve job, long tube headers, corsa exhaust, aluminum block with forged internals.
Just give it time and it'll handle the blue ovals and compete with duramax. It'll outperform it too, and it will be a lot less $ in the long run because of how little maintanence it requires.

I did mean 381 hp to the crank. I guess I should have clarified that. I wasn't going to guess the r.w.h.p. because I've never looked at a Tundra's dyno sheet. What I can say for sure is that a stock GM 5.3 liter is going to need a nice list of mods to run with one of these stock 5.7 liter Tundras.

Those Tundras are strong. They come from the factory with 4.30s in the rear end. Factor that in with their 381 hp motor, and you have an animal. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the largest gears a Silverado 1500 can come with from the factory is 3.73. The '09 and up Dodge Ram 1500s can only get up to 3.92s in the normal trucks, and 4.10s if you order the R/T.
I'm not rooting for the Tundra. I'm just merely stating why they're quick right from the factory.

381hp? Maybe to the crank. No one cares about what they claim on T.V., or in a brochure. Actual r.w.h.p. is probably more realistically around 300-320. And as far as it being clash of the 5.7L., last that I checked GM is not currently making a 350 for their trucks, they are using a 323ciu.

I don't know where you got your facts from but they are incorrect. GM got 370hp from the 1970 version of the 5.7 and 350 out of the LS1 in 2004. Say what you will but it's sad that Toyota can only get 381hp out of a 5.7 and it's 2010. Either way why are you talking about HP in a conversation about trucks? I just want you all to know that GM builds pretty reliable V8s you just need to change the oil and transmission fluid and filter and keep it up to par and it will out last any other V8 out there i know that for a fact. Just look at all the old chevys out there on the road. Everyone could build a reliable engine if they wanted to but that would be bad for business no one would ever need any parts or a new car. So i think that they are all ok but my pick is any GM vehicle and thats my opinion.

You guys talk about Chevy , Ford and Dodge while Chevy is my favorite these are the AMERICAN companies that made automobiles great. So have some respect for them I have heard on the Tundras having their share or problems. Using oil/smoking, horrific fuel mileage, engine knocking etc... Every brand has problems now and then.

Tundras aren't imported, also, I own a stock 5.7 tundra and it has stronger acceleration than my 96 Impala SS did. Please don't flame me, I know they're very different engine/transmission wise and over a decade apart in development. I wound up with a Tundra because GM would not get serious about reasonable pricing. The Tundra is a far better value, and cheaper to boot. You can just call me one happy former GM guy.

one it probably just has a cam swap with ls springs and heads. Forged pistons? never heard of that on a 5.3 and aluminum block? like thats a damn mod. shows your stupidity. The 5.3 comes in either alum or iron block. I will say it again my custom tuned 5.3 as never been beaten by a 5.7 tundra we were even the whole way both extended cabs.

i have owned a duramax LBZ. A 4wd with a gasser will not be faster they don't have anything to spool up. My lbz with PPE no 4wd launch ran a 13.8 and once i got the suncoast trans i never went back but it would easily hit 12's. keep driving your little import and thinking you are cool. Also, don't complain when all the plastic comes apart, or the tailgate breaks, bed bounces, camshafts go out, trans fall out or anything else the new tundra has faced problem wise. BUY AMERICAN

An obvious flaw in the comparison of acceleration: The Tundra 5.7 engine sound(very familiar to me) shift to 3rd at 11 seconds of WOT. That means it's getting to 70-75(it varies on how warmed up the engine is) before it shifts to 3rd. Mine may be the quickest model 5.7L RCSB 2WD but it gets to third with about 7 or less. Maybe the guy gave it partial throttle to begin with and wasted a second but a real Tundra as described would be about to redline 3rd by the time this finished 2nd.

The Duramax is a killer.
At my local track, I've seen them do low 13s with only a tune/intake/exhaust.
Hell Bone stock they run mid-high 14s in an Ext Cab/Shortbox, and with 660 ftlbs of torque @1600rpm...i think they're pretty damn good at towing too.

Have you not heard that GM has a new 6.2l engine out and with 3.73s that will beat the new tundra not by much but it still beats it. I mean only in the chevy truck cause the gmc has different options on it. I'm not downing the tundra cause they are ok trucks but i know that if GM truely wanted their trucks to be faster then the tundra they would make them faster. They care more about the durability and pulling power of their trucks. After all that what trucks are for!

I like the tundra but when toyota came out with the S/C for it that made think that they are trying to hard to be the best in class hp. They wanted to make a truck with as much if not more power than all the other companies. They spent along time on this engine to make sure of that. I just perfer a GM over them because they have so many old trucks still on the road and my family has had really good luck with them and we use them to their fullest extent. They just keep going and going!

I believe you are forgetting that toyota has really old trucks on the road too, but they did not have bigger trucks now they do, I had a 95 T100 with over 220,000 miles and I only had to change a clutch master cylinder because I was doing too many burnouts on clutch dumping. Now i have an 05 tundra and my T100 still running.

Yes toyota has a lot of old trucks on the road too but i'm saying that for hauling and stuff i'll stick with GM trucks. But i do know that they have lots of old 4 bangers still going lol. My grandpa used to have one and put it to work too it was a good truck until it rusted all to pieces was the only thing he really ever had an issue with but couldn't drive it when he didn't have any floorboards lol!

Oh stylin... come on now, the turbo and the supercharger achieve the same result... increased HP as a result of forced induction. They are OFTEN interchanged as they are quite simliar.
Furthermore you have gotten EVERYTHING you have said wrong on here... I have had to "flip" nothing. As for my truck, I bought it with my own money, I make the $546/ month payment every month and I maintain it fully with my own money.

JD Power gave the award to the Silverado, but the Tundra had the EXACT SAME OVERALL SCORE. The Tundra actually scored the exact same as the Silverado in the initial quality ratings, you should reread the ratings son.
The Tundra also outscored the Silverado in the "Performance and Design" ratings.

What exactly done to the silverado, Cause i had a stock 99 silverado ex-cab 4x4 z71 with just exaust, and now have a tundra crew-max 4x4 trd bone stock, and my silverado would have never come close to my tundra and have raced an 08 vortec max (was pretty close but still won) so i know for a fact the stock 5.3 would not have been nearly as good a race much less stomp my ass like this truck did. not bashin, just wanderin what mods cause that is a seriously fast truck to beat a 5.7 that badly.

this is the 1st year of the 5.7L engine.
Just give it time and it'll handle the blue ovals and compete with duramax. It'll outperform it too, and it will be a lot less $ in the long run because of how little maintanence it requires.

yeah a toyota jap built wannabe truck is going to be able to compete with a duramax, a 5.7 little tundra engine will never pull/haul like a diesel. heck a duramax can easily break the 11's and 10's in the 1/4 mile..how many tundras do you see there? thats right.
my buddys 06 dmax LBZ with edge evo and 4" straight pipe ran a 13.8 quarter mile and yes he smokes new tundras all day long. He has a suncoast trans coming in soon and new efi live tuning so he will be seeing the 12's soon. Toyota sucks
