One of my all time favourite 80's synth tracks, such an exciting time, no more banging on stretched pig skins with a stick or twanging strings to get sound and rythm, long live Linn drum machines and Moog Emulators. PLUG IT IN, PROGRAMME IT UP, AND LET IT GO !!!.
Vince Clarke has been responsible for some great groups, Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure and The Assembly. He has no doubt been the inspiration of many other synth pop groups as well.
@kevanickes One hit or 2, are u joking? Erasure has 17 top ten singles, 24 top20 hits consecutive between 1986 and 1997. They had a couple of failures after that, in 2005 they had another Hit number 4 "Breathe". They released their 14th album "Tomorrow's World" last October, Vince wasn't. still IS a Genius. What sucks with Erasure is that Radio prefers to play garbage like the one we can listen anywhere, letting great bands without the chance to be on the charts.
How I enjoyed that L.P. a lot ! ...such a strange voice, those of Alison Moyet...a voice that was the voice of another singer too...don't remember the name of that band...Today, a Singer I adore named MO'SEAN is on the point of becomin' a Major artist with "Give you my soul" + a Super L.P. which will become, I guess a Major album too..I just can't wait any longer...Thanks YOU TUBE 4 all these good good little jewels...Straight ahead to the Stars...
I don't know if Gaga is a genius or not (I've never heard anything of her, other than her name), but as far as music, we can only know genius if their work encapsulates some zeitgeist. Bowie, Yaz and many others do this. Perhaps Gaga does this as well, it's just that the 'Geist' sucks. Ass.
I wasn't born in the 80's but boy some of the music from that decade was genius. This shows up a lot of modern day acts. The electronic sound and stupendous vocals of Alison Moyet (that some one like Gaga could only dream of copying). Great group, great song and great album!
I see. I don't think I'll be paying much attention to her then. But then I don't pay much attention to any contemporary music, hence my channel name. Although that "Rage Against The Machine" stunt was f*cking excellent !
Yeah I thought it was excellent but I would have much rather had another song spear heading the anti X-factor campaign. But I can't stand Gaga, she thinks she is it and people who listen to her are the type that follow X-factor religiously. Thank god for the like of Alison Moyet and Kate Bush I say!
Well it all happened so quickly, and Rage Against The Machine may be crap but they were ready, willing and noisy ! So it was just a great spontaneous protest against this X-Factor monopoly nonsense. And the money went to charity. But when you get Johnny Rotten and Paul McCartney signing the same petition, then you know times are bad !
I'm a Siouxsie And The Banshees fanatic, mainly their early stuff. "The Scream" is the best album ever made...in my humble opinion !
Well apparently she has the best video since Thriller! Do kids honestly listen to that and think oh isn't this absolutely wonderful, what a great melody? I wonder what their response is when they hear something from the 70s or 80's, whether or not it registers as actual music or fossil based entertainment that old people enjoy? Nothing in the charts in the last 20 yrs has come close to the genius of Vince Clarke or any other 80s act.
Well I'm not close minded or anything (yeah, sure), but to me virtually all music before 1976 is the Dark Ages, and all music after about 1987 is the end of the world ! I blame Stock, Aitken and Waterman, the "Bernard Mathew's" of pop !
Although there was a brief revival in the mid 90s, but that was soon stamped out by the big record companies, and the likes of Simon Callow. May he rot in hell !
18-year old here. I have an incredibly eclectic music taste (Roddy can attest to that). Actually, I'd say my favorite period of music is from the late 70s, (it seems to reflect my eclectic taste well; so much variety!), though I like a great deal of the music from the 30s/40s to the 00s (I haven't bothered to look much earlier than that, and I haven't discovered too many good bands from the last decade or so).
Yes, I get your point. The fashion may have been total crap, but it was different and original. And Goths ! Girls with short leather skirts drool drool shame about the make up.
As far as most music was concerned I couldnt agree more with the title of this one, superb sound (and album) one of the best 80's electro tracks, brillaint live aswell. What an era !!!!!.
They were called "Yaz" in America, they had to change their name because of some tinned fish company...on, wait, that was ABBA. Well, for some copyright reason.
one of my favorite songs off one of my favorite albums....EVER...

I prefer 70's music. :-) I don't like the tinny 80's drumbeats. Prefer proper drums.

Yes, "Vince" left Depeche Mode after their first hit single, and formed "Yazoo" ("Yaz" in the USA, due to some copyright nonsense) with Alison Moyet.
