I came to this video looking for tips to improve my pinch harmonics to play a Quo song of all things (Gerdundula if you're wondering). three single coils strats have a higher pitch squeals my guitar leaves your ears ringing for days because i max out the mids and treble and i throw in boss od3 with the tone contol and volume maxed
Pinch harmonics will hit really well regardless of what pickup position you're in, what type of pickup it is and where you hit them. If your rig is well designed, which usually requires custom built gear, you can get squeels even with your tone control cutting the treble.
I can hit pinches on any guitar I own in any position, anywhere on the strings. It's all a matter of gain frequency saturation and the circuit emphasizing the right harmonics.
@JonDeth Well then...if that the case, I would like to hear them then. Would be a breaktrough within the artificial harmonic environment, due to the muddiness of the harmonics, like I imagine they would sound. Cheers.
@darkisois18 I do it in one of my videos demonstrating an overdrive I designed from the ground up and had slaved over for 2 weeks due to the enclosure being such a challenge.
I can hit them not just in the bridge but the neck as well with the treble cut.
@JonDeth In the meantime you received and wrote the comment, i checked your videos, the first one the death screamer, I just could not stand the poor sound quality the video had, the saturation on my headphones nearly put me on deaf mode, and the other one where you are with your guitar, I think that yes, it`s real defined and clear, I mean the sound, but the tone of that video still got a nice amount of treble.
@darkisois18 The treble is cut on the guitar, not the pedal and amp. It's a scooped midrange tone with the treble and bass boosted like what you hear in Industrial, Numetal and yes, even Pantera who was notorious for this type of tone.
Just the same, I can cut the treble on the pedal and amp and still get wicked pinch harmonics. I just don't care for the midrange driven, stuffy nose tone of the 80's that all the going nowhere shredders still used today.

@darkisois18 when I turn the radio on and set it to the rock stations, I always hear someone from now, shredding and tearing it apart, maybe not like it used to be, but yeah, the shred can take you to the sky, IF you know when and when not to.
Well, anyways, it`s just all about feeling what you play and try to others to feel it to.
@darkisois18 I use the 80's type tones frequently enough but ultimately when it comes time to record or compose, the mids get gutted, bass/treble boosted and modulation/depth effects are abandon. Even with 80's metal, for rhythm anyway, plenty of bands would use the scooped out mids, sharp jagged thrashy tone.
For a guy like myself playing modern thrash doing both rhythm and lead at once, scooped tone is the only way to go. Cut treble with boosted mids and bass lacks balls and attitude.
@darkisois18 there tends to be a lot of tone snobbery online from shredders who insist upon using tubes and your tone being all thick, smooth and layered in chorus and delay. 25 years ago that was fine but today, it's useless unless you're doing instrumental work.
I hate modulation and depth effects, they're crutches as is midrange.
Bottom line is if you want great pinch harmonics, you need a good solid state pedal in front of whatever type of amp you choose be it tube, s.s. or digital.

Okay placement of the pickup has NOTHING to do with harmonics. That's all in the string. NOTHING to do with pickups... They just don't come out that clear when over the bridge. But you can certainly get harmonics behind the middle and rhythm pickups.

you cant do SQUEALS like pantera on that guitar. im talking about the squeals at the end of cemetary gates. those are squeals. not just regular pinch harmonics which an example of that is also in cemetary gates.
there are certain tremolo bars that are similair to the floyd rose in that you can also PULL the bar... you can use that bar with a pinch harmonic to squeal... it just depends on if you have a whammy or a tremolo or a floyd rose. the floyd rose is the easiest way to do it, though

For a guy like myself playing modern thrash doing both rhythm and lead at once, scooped tone is the only way to go. Cut treble with boosted mids and bass lacks balls and attitude.

@darkisois18 there tends to be a lot of tone snobbery online from shredders who insist upon using tubes and your tone being all thick, smooth and layered in chorus and delay. 25 years ago that was fine but today, it's useless unless you're doing instrumental work.
I hate modulation and depth effects, they're crutches as is midrange.
Bottom line is if you want great pinch harmonics, you need a good solid state pedal in front of whatever type of amp you choose be it tube, s.s. or digital.

Okay placement of the pickup has NOTHING to do with harmonics. That's all in the string. NOTHING to do with pickups... They just don't come out that clear when over the bridge. But you can certainly get harmonics behind the middle and rhythm pickups.

well the pickups on a lot of guitars in the neck position have less output for rythm playing, so on a lot of guitars it does matter.
but you are right that it's not really where the pickup is as it is what kind of pickup it is.

Yeah they would have done it more privately, I guess. To be honest, I got my influence on trying cannabis from Pantera, but back then I was young and stupid.
Now I'm 18 and I still like smoking occasionally. The truth is, that most people have a wrong view on cannabis, and that makes potsmokers outsiders in many situations. In fact, it is just a good way to relax with your friends and to make your thinking more creative and deeper. It's not like something that starts to control your life.

you cant do SQUEALS like pantera on that guitar. im talking about the squeals at the end of cemetary gates. those are squeals. not just regular pinch harmonics which an example of that is also in cemetary gates.

there are certain tremolo bars that are similair to the floyd rose in that you can also PULL the bar... you can use that bar with a pinch harmonic to squeal... it just depends on if you have a whammy or a tremolo or a floyd rose. the floyd rose is the easiest way to do it, though
