  • I used to LOVE this song. Still do. Reminds me of my grammar school crush. Ohhh, the angst!

  • This was a diamond, lost in the rock and roll crazy days of the early 70's but what a great song.

I love it, the words are special and she had a great voice. Even charting back in '72 it really had almost a mid 60's kind of sincere message that we all know is timeless and classic. I could see Skeeter Davis or the likes recording this wonderful song. Lost in the dust, this is a keeper for those special mellow music kind of times I would hope we all have once in a while.

  • I loved it I was in training in the Navy made me miss girls at home

  • You won't read this David, I'm so sorry :,(

  • A song as good as this deserves two million hits...minmum.

  • You can not beat the wall of sound-- glorious

  • Only wish I coud see her singing it even it fake--the old wall of sound still holds up--a sweet be bob tune

  • Beautiful. Songs not bad either. Bellisima!

  • She had such a awesome voice to go with such a beautiful face. What ever happen to her, does she still perform. Seems like she disappear around 1974.

  • Haven't heard this in a while. What a great voice she has!

  • jeeesh. I havent heard this song for over years and years till NOW...

  • Summer of 1971, just graduated jr. hi, she was visiting her aunt next door for the summer, such an innocent time,i thought i was in love and Bev`s song just made me cry when she left...............

  • This makes my heart ache in a sweet-tart kind of way. I think of my first 'puppy-dog' crush Her name was Tracy. She was one of my 'buddies' from our neighborhood until that summer of '72 when inexplicably my body, mind and soul began to speak more deeply about her. She was no longer just one of the gang. Her beautiful long blonde hair and deep green eyes began to take on a whole new depth, a whole new sparkle. Suddenly one with whom I could catch fish out of the river, made me go weak.

  • How did you know that The Goggles recorded this song before Beverly's? I got their record in a brown paper bag of 45 rpm records, at a music chain in the DC area in the 70's, called Waxie Maxies. I'm just surprised that anyone would recall The Goggles version of this song, when it never got any real Airplay. Wonderful that you know The Goggles' version, by the way.

  • Are there any videos of Beverly sing this song on an early tv show ?

  • @jstarr1717 According to Beverly, "There are no existing copies of my performing that song to my knowledge. Most were taped over, such as my 'American Bandstand' appearance. The only one is a short lip-synched appearance on 'The Dating Game', which I don't think has surfaced on the web."

  • I'm 58 years old and always loved this song, it has such great back up french horns and other brass. Just love it. Thanks for posting, haven't heard it in years!

  • @letstalkaboutsports1 me, too. am 58, and loved it from the time first heard it.

have spent years trying to find it again.

  • @letstalkaboutsports1 the flip side..get smart girl..was fantastic with even more horns.

  • Never heard this song in my life, but the arrangements (especially the intro) make it feel so familiar. Thanks for posting...and introducing listeners to this unexpected treat!

  • Oldies

  • I Forgot how Beautiful & Sad this song is.

"People never Stay the same Forever"

"Somebody always Loves a Little More"

God her Voice is Fantastic. She should of had different "management"....

  • great song!

  • what did they do her voice in this song. sounds so processed.

  • What a great song Thanks for the memory

  • Is it true that she recorded this beautiful song at age 14 ??

  • @raiderdanCA No, Beverly was in her early 20s when she recorded this. But her first records were recorded a few years earlier, in the 60s.

  • One of my all-time faves. Thanks for the post. Beverly hit a homerun with this classic. Thanks, Bev.

  • Maybe I don't have the right to be so thinskinned about this, but it bugs me something awful.I think it was a FULL paged ad in Billboard, thanking the DJs for making a hit out of a truly lovely and beautiful song.Thing is,it was ALREADY a hit,she only had 1 minor hit after that, and the cost of the ad probobly came out of that kid's pocket.I know that's the way these things are usually done, but the thought of it still kinda haunts me.

  • This hauntingly beautiful song is my favorite song of all time, I have a signed promo shot of Bev and Besides the love of my life Joy, it is my most prized possession, please find What I did for Love and post it! my dog destroyed the single i had!

  • I was in a guard shack at a signal intelligence base on the East German Border frozen to my core when I first heard this recording. The music and words warmed my soul, and to this day, I think saved my life on that cold night on that German mountain. Thank you Miss Beverly. I owe you one.

  • What an awesome song this is...

  • You're very welcome Beverly. I hope to catch one of your performances some time. I listen to this song everyday on YOUTUBE thanx to OceanKingNY even though I own an original 45 of it. It remains to be one of the sweetest and warmest though also saddest songs ever. The way you sang it so beautifully and expressed the meaning of the lyrics so perfectly is why this song was so successful and is still so loved. A timeless classic by a beautiful lady.

  • Thanks for all your nice comments! And funny ones ; - ) Yes, lots of folks thought Donny sang that song & Marie actually recorded a remake of it a few years later. I never met either one of them, however. If you're interested in buying DSYDR, it's available on my website, amazon, itunes, etc. I still record & perform. Thanks again to OceanKingNY for posting such a nice video. We'll have to meet next time I'm in NY.

  • @beverlybremers1 Beverly: I'm so glad you are still using your wonderful talent. When I listen to this song, I play it over and over. I just can't stop! Classy-very classy!

  • recorando al primer amor ,verano de 1972.terminando el primer año de secundaria, gracias por el recuerdo.

  • Thank you for posting this song...I never hear it anymore. How I used to cry when I heard it (and believed I'd never love again).

  • 250,000+ views! Thanks to everybody for your support, and Happy Halloween!

  • obscure classic stuff that never gets played any more. I won $25 from a radio station (WBBF/Rochester NY) because I could call in and ID this song? Cool huh?

I actually bought this single-on the red and black scepter label when it was out

    very early 1972

  • Beverly - I just heard this song for the first time - I liked it very much and I bow to your loveliness.

    WhatChristDid . com

  • OceanKingNY thank you for sharing this wonderful song, when USA' musician made a good, sentimental music where those good times gone?

  • I love the orchestration on it, too. Where was it recorded? Anyone know what studio?

  • I loved this song back in 1972 Im surprised that so many people feel the same way

What a great song and performance

  • YES I REMEMBER!!

  • oh wow Beverly Bremers what a voice what a woman what a combination whats not to love !

  • When I was a kid, I always thought this was Marie Osmond singing-HA HA!

    Donna~

  • @donnamariemoreno27 They sounded a lot alike.Marie had her debut with Paper Roses about two years later.

  • @donnamariemoreno27 Actually, several people have posted that, way back when, they thought this was DONNY Osmond singing. :D

  • @OceanKingNY You know-now that you mention it, it kinda sound's like Donny singing as well-and I do mean this as a compliment! That being said, Miss Bremers-you have a lovely voice, and nice lyrics as well. It's just a real pretty song. I was 9 at the time, but I would sing to this all the time when it would come on the radio.

  • @OceanKingNY Before puberty,he did sound very effeminate.

  • @OceanKingNY OMG How funny! I thought it was Donny Osmond when I first heard it too!

Glad to know I was not alone!

  • @donnamariemoreno27 The Osmonds covered everything in the Seventies, why not this?

  • @donnamariemoreno27 Marie Osmond, like Donny, never had a hit with anything that was not a cover of a previous hit. (Okay, in Donny's case his first hit "Sweet And Innocent" was an exception.)

  • @vinylsingleman

But even THIS version is a cover. It was first recorded by The Goggles a male vocal group.

  • @cmulwee001 True, but note my term "cover of a previous HIT". In other words, Donny and Marie only recorded songs that had already demonstrated popularity with the public, and were thus regarded as shoo-ins to be hits again, rather than taking a chance on something either new or which had not clicked the first time. The Goggles version can't be called a hit.

  • @vinylsingleman

Okay guess i didn't see that. It's not uncommon for a song that was a HUGE hit for a certain artist, in this case Beverly Bremers, to have been previously recorded by a lesser known or even unknown singer or group(in this case The Goggles.

The Goggles original is on BEFORE THEY WERE HITS-VOLUME 8.

There is TONS of info on the web about Beverly Bremers, but goose egg info The Goggles.

  • @donnamariemoreno27 I thought it was Donny!

  • This sounded more like a hit from the late '50's or early ''60's.There was a retro movement in the early '70's,this was one the first hits from that movement.Unfortunately, most oldie stations have forgotten this record with many other good ones.Thank God youtube posts them.

  • @dlsofsetx It was a 60's sound. I thought it had been brought back from the 60's when I was 13; and I bought the 45; but no it's a 70's song. A big thank you to Peggy Brooks and the staff;over at Mesquite Schools Radio 88.5 Fm. KEOM Mesquite Texas for continuing to play "Don't Say You Don't Remember." in the regular format.

  • I Really Like This Song, Thanks So Much Beverly B.

  • Always loved this song, thanks.

  • I worked with Beverly in 1979-80. She was also a guest at my wedding...Hey Bev if you see this....It's Susan...remember, you, gloria and me? Pacific Theatres?

  • I was 16 yrs old when this was new great song thanks for satilite radio I am stuck in the 60s and 70s the best music BG

  • I can hear this song a thousand times and love hearing it again. KXMO 95.3 Fm Cuba played Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep for me today.

I am going to request Mick play this song again. This last weekend they did an excellent job of playing the "deep gold songs" these songs were not only great but hold many memories. and KEOM Mesquite Texas is going to start streaming in the near future. They are playing your song more often now.

  • @ beverly thanks for making us all smile

  • didn't any teach her about using double negatives..geesh!!!

  • I fell in love with "Bev Bremers"...as the Seattle DJ's used to say, a few years back, and I have enjoyed her music for a very long time. This is simply a great song with a strong performance by Beverly and solid orchestration. Thanks for posting......so we don't say you don't remember.

  • OMG! I loved this song when I first heard it and still love it! Beverly, you will always have fans who appreciate your music!

  • DON'T SAY YOU DON'T REMEMBER THIS SONG!!!!!!!!! IT'S FANTASTIC!!!!

  • Oh I love this song thanks Beverly!

  • What a Great song and can never forget. on Scepter wand on records.

  • what a perfect pure strong voice. Those were the days of great singers.

  • One of the best songs of the 70's period.

  • What a sweet song. I was a senior in HS when this song was hitting the airwaves. My girl and I were in some turbulent times and it finally came undone. She was my first love and brings back all the bittersweet memories. Thanks Beverly.

  • I know I am not The only one who loves those French horns at 2:59.

  • @Appleholic1

    Nope... You most certainly aren't.

  • One of my all time favorites from the Seventies...

  • I just downloaded this song on Rhapsody and by the title it said "(Explicit)". I said huh?? Nothing explicit about this.

  • This song was played virtually each and every morning on WSPD 1360 AM in Toledo, Ohio, back in the day. I used to hear it when I was eating breakfast and wondered if the girl singing it was as beautiful as her voice. Answer: yes!

  • Ahhh, 1972, love this song. Thanks for the memories!!

  • This is one that brings back memories-good and bad, happy and sad. 40 years ago- almost takes your breath away when think of how time flies.. Great post-thanks for the memories my friend.

  • A marvelous song by a marvelous singer! I remember when this first came out! This song brings back a lot of good memories -- I was a high school sophomore way back then! Thank you for posting this video OceanKing, and thank you, Beverly, wherever you are, for singing it!

  • Classic song and beautiful voice. It's not often a song makes me tear up. This one does. I still remember the first time I heard it. I was riding shotgun in my mom's 1967 VW Beetle. I believe I had the 45 for awhile too. Looks like Beverly has had a great life and career, judging from her website. But she had the talent and looks to be huge. Don't understand why it didn't happen. Anyway, I guess it doesn't matter now. If that's really you on here Beverly, thanks for the timeless song.

  • What a find! What a beautiful song. And so well executed. Love it.

  • Freshly home from Nam, she thought I was too crazy , imagine that .

  • Boy, some of these comments concerning this song are quite crude and crass---is that really necessary?

  • So beautiful!!!

  • she also released another song, went something like........."i'll make you music, sweet sweet, music, why don't you come along, we'll be together happy forever, singing the same sweet song"...........

  • @definitedoll not worth half a crap as this one - written for The Carpenters . Fact they turned it down - B or C list NY singer here ---

  • @MrGalore44 So do you scrooge ,the Grinch , and Lord Valdemort ,have fun together you soulless creep. This song is a great example of Blue Eyed Soul from a wonderful singer.

  • I always liked this one. thanks for posting it.

  • Holy Shit, Ocean King! I looked to my right, and there was this song that I remember having the 45 of a bazillion years ago! Thanks for posting it, it still sounds so great.

  • Thanks KXMO 95.3 FM. Cuba Missouri for playing this awesome song today just before noon. A special thanks to our new D.J. Mick for looking up my request.

It's been a long time since the old KTTR 1490 AM Rolla Mo. "who manages KXMO 95.3 FM." has played this awesome little forgotten hit. Hopefully it will get put into the format now. KEOM 88.5 Mesquite Schools radio has been playing it some lately.

  • Sue Its been 29 years and not a day goes by without me thinking of you and our daughter.

Just wish I knew you were both safe and happy.

    Tony. xxx

  • WOW! A great ballad. It sure is nice when you get a response from the artist on YouTube. I was sixteen and had suffered my first love and loss when this was released. I wasn't sure when I did my search anyone had posted it. TY

  • love it. thanks.

  • I know that lots of folks regard this as a "chick song", but it is so musically and lyrically powerful and so beautifully rendered by the vocalist that even a hardened male chauvanist cynic like me can appreciate its majesty.

  • where can i download this song??

  • I am 52.This song still makes me tear up

  • I was sooooooo in love with her when I was 17!~

  • @Danbertex Same here.

  • @beverlybremers1 I love this song-it's one of my favorites! Are you still singing?

  • @beverlybremers1 Miss Bremers this is one of the most emotionally moving songs of all time and the way you sing it so beautifully gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Best of love and luck to you and thank you OceanKingNY for showing it to us here

  • @beverlybremers1 : I had completely forgotten about this song (sorry) until I heard it on the radio the day. And I knew every word! Thank you for a lovely song. I will never forget it now!

  • @beverlybremers1 I Love Love Love you :)

  • @beverlybremers1 Beverly, I have loved this song since I first heard it through my "gigantic" 2 inch speakers in my 64 Impala on WHB (Kansas City, Mo) in 72 - my Senior year in high school.

I didn't know until I saw this on Youtube that you are a stone-old FOX. The lyrics "when we meet you always call me baby, how can it be that you forgot my name" has always gotten to me.

Thanks for a great song and memory.

  • @beverlybremers1 This is one beautiful song that will never lose it's flavor.

  • @beverlybremers1 omg I still cry to this song. so wonderful there are people like you. johntmurhy61@yahoo.com

  • @beverlybremers1 omg I still cry to this song. so wonderful there are people like you. johntmurhy61@yahoo.com you are the best

  • @beverlybremers1 Well I think it is great that you would post here at the tube…if it is really you. I was young when this song was popular but I did eventually realize its meaning when older as I grew up to be the guy you sang about here…had sex and did not remember their names back in the 70’s. But I did learn a lesson about love…. and that is: Men use love for sex, and women use sex for love. Ever think about that and its relationship to your song?

  • @FullMoonVideo It's funny and even seems a little unfair how time reverses the roles of love and pain. Women are light years ahead of men when it comes to emotions. But when men finally do catch up it usually seems to be a harsh lesson learned to late. I wonder...are some men who succeeded in love smart or just lucky?

  • A very emotionally moving song. Sad but beautiful and full of sweet love.

  • classic song -- thanks for uploading

  • Always love to come back to your channel to listen to this great song! Hope all is well with you!! Mike

  • I remember listening to this song so many times the summer after graduation. So many wonderful memories! Thank you for making this video. Great job!

  • wow this is one of the best ranks up there

  • One of those songs you forget how good it was until you hear it again years later...

  • Great voice, but really a one hit wonder. Maybe with better PR and management she could have achieved Dusty Springfield status. This is a great song.

  • I had a 71 SS Chevelle,no aches and pains and loved this song dearly.I was a Rocker but this song still was one of those you always remember!thank you in bunches.

  • Such a pretty voice

Thanks to all of you for supporting this song (and my little video).

And a Happy Memorial Day to our American viewers!

  • Beverly, you are still a gorgeous lady. I believe we might be relatively close in age and this video reminds me of just what a "traffic stopper" you were back then. I kept telling myself I was the only boy who had a crush on you. Yeah, I know. (lol). Even now I am still a poster person like I was during those thrilling days of yesteryear and you are still right there on the wall and in my heart. All the best and thanks once again for "Don't Say You Don't Remember;" I won't, and always have.

  • I've been singing the chorus to this song for about 35 years for no particular reason other than it was stuck in my head from when I was a kid... and one day my daughter asked me what it was so we looked and I found this on YouTube. Now she walks around singing it and I finally learned the whole song! It is truly a timeless classic. Love that BB.

  • A beautiful song. I believe this was recorded on the Scepter label (famous for The Shirelles, Dionne Warwick, BJ Thomas) I am surprised she didn't have other hits.

  • I still have the 45 of this,,my mom bought it for me in 71 when I was only 6.This song of hers was HUGE in Louisville,Ky,,on WAKY (790) and WKLO (1080). I am friends with her on facebook,,she was beautifull then,,and still is. Great memories for my family at 4307 Leaf Drive in Louisville in '71.A very beautifull song. Thanks !!!!

  • Beautiful lady with a smashing voice. Songs from that period have such a special charm.

  • She was a hottie. I was born 20 years to late

  • This reminds me of when I was 16. I forgot all about it until I heard it the other day on the 70's oldies. Now I have bought at ITunes, and cannot stop listening to it. Great song from a great time.

  • ~~~AWESOME~~~

  • Well thanx for thunkin' it. It's timeless and priceless...

  • I had forgotten all about this song. When I heard it here, a flood of memories came with it.

    Thanks for posting.

  • she's my singing coach. she's the best(:

  • 4 for four fore

  • MY FAVE OF ALL TIME, NONE COMES CLOSE . I WAS LIVING IN AZUSA, CALI. WHEN I FIRST HEARD IT, HAVE IT ON AN OLD K-TELL ALBUM, THEN CAME THE INTERNET AND I LOOKED UP BEVERLY, SHE SAID SHE WAS THE ONE AND SENT ME A SIGNED PROMO SHOT, I FINALLY HAD A FACE TO GO WITH THAT LOVELY VOICE, NOW ALL I NEED IS THE 45 THAT MY DOG ATE TITLED WHAT I DID FOR LOVE FROM BEVERLY. ANYONE HAVE A COPY?

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Being a DJ for over 40 years this is truly one of my favoriates. I play it at least 10 times a week now on oldies xm. I dated a girl named Donna and I keep asking her if she remembers this song. Great memories!

  • really nice, thanks for posting!

  • This song along with 3 others still gives me the goosebumps

  • @YOU2UUB And the other 3 are?

  • Wow! It has been over 40 years and I still remember all the words to this one.. What a song!

  • Like the fellow just below said, I was in jr high school in 1971. I had just about forgotten about this song. Seems like there was way better music in the early 70's than in the later 70's.

  • i totally remember this song from when i was in junior high school. that adolescent lonlieness thing...

  • tell me how can 2 people at this point have a thumbs down except for it is sad

  • How can anyone on the face of this planet say that this is not a truly genuine masterpiece?????!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beverly turned a good song into a great one.

  • Back in the early-to-middle 1970's - shortly after Beverly's song was released - we got a promotional copy of this song at the radio station where I worked - WAHR-FM (Stereo 99) in Huntsville, Alabama. Our program manager liked the song (or maybe he liked Beverly's provocative pose on the record sleeve!) so he approved the song for air play. I was the weekend DJ, so I played this beautiful song just about every time I was on the air. I had a wonderful email chat with Beverly a few years ago.

  • One of my all- time favorite songs ! Really takes me back to my high school days . Thank you for posting a great video .

  • me myself and irene.

it was so hard looking for this track.

and its not even the movie version...but it's still awesome.

  • Beverly was my voice over coach years ago - you've heard her on hundreds of animated shows and on the radio. She's a total doll.

  • @SueSnell How cool to have worked with Beverly! What shows or commercials can you name where we might have heard her voice?

  • @OceanKingNY - I used to have her demo reel - lots of radio stuff for grocery stores and commercials. But I remember her telling me that she was a voice on the Cow and Chicken animated show for a few episodes and she was doing a lot of gaming voices for dark queens and such. I'm sure she still has her website up where you can listen, too - check it out if it's still there. She autographed my single of Don't Say... when she was on my college radio show. She's the best.

  • @OceanKingNY - also - she was performing in LA in 2006 in Menopause the Musical, so I know she's still keeping busy. :)

  • @OceanKingNY I totally remember this song off the jukebox in the 70's at the Windy Hill Pavilion at N. Myrtle Beach in S.C. Had some great summers there as a kid and this song brings all those memories rushig back!!!!

  • @OceanKingNY I totally remember this song off the jukebox in the 70's at the Windy Hill Pavilion at N. Myrtle Beach in S.C. Had some great summers there as a kid and this song brings all those memories rushig back!!!!

  • @NerdyPooStainZ -- Windy Hill?!?! Wow - my family was always @ OD proper then later @ Crescent Beach (all part of NMB. I can still hear this playing on the Ocean Drive Pavilion juke box, too. Those were wonderful summers for a kid from Spartanburg.

  • @OceanKingNY yea really id like to know that too

  • SARDAGNOLA@PALMBEACH.K12FLUS

  • Wow, 1971, I was 7 years old and liked the song. Now 40 yeras later, I love this song. This is a classic.

  • @hawaiianstyler I was ten. Same thing. LOVE her voice and the song.
