  • Thank's this was just want I needed...this is the first year the bugs did not get all of my peaches. Thank you for making it easy to tell when they are ready.

  • Very informative video, but how do you deal with pests that are competing for your peaches? I have a suburban home in Texas and a peach tree in my backyard is full of green peaches, but already the squirrels are starting to pick them, eat a bite, and then drop the rest of the fruit to rot on the ground. There are houses surrounding my property so I can't shoot them safely, but if I wait til the peaches are as ripe as those in the video I'll have nothing left.

What can I do to protect my crop?

  • Those peaches and peach trees look great! I just planted two year old trees in our yard this year, so i can't wait until they are much larger and producing!

  • Great job and informative! Those were some big peaches.

I have a 3-year-old tree and might be getting my first home-grown peaches this year. Thanks for the tip on looking up the date to help predict when to harvest. I did that and found my state's leading college says to expect peaches on July 14 for my tree variety. I am excited and will ask my wife to get ready to cook peach pies! :-)

Do you know what the root stock might be for grafted peach trees?

  • @field16 For some reason when I try to reply, I am receiving an error message.

  • @GLHeilig Aw, sorry I could read what you typed. Well, sometimes I get that error if I exceed the "characters remaining" count. You may have exceeded the limit on the number of characters. Youtube should be more specific in their error messages. Thanks for trying to respond.

  • @field16 Should have said "sorry I could NOT read what you typed."

  • @field16 I will try one more time.

In Michigan, recommended rootstock are: Bailey, Lovell, Halford,

Chui Lum Tao, or Tennessee Natural Avoid:

    Nemaguard, Siberian, Citation

Performing well so far in testing, Guardian Dwarfing rootstock:

Pumiselect trees will be very small on sandy soils

Check with your local Cooperative Extension for suggestions for your area.

  • @GLHeilig That was very specific... thanks.. I checked a few you listed and was surprised they are other peach varieties. I guess I expected something more exotic. I see the Lovell is another peach tree and just had its genome sequenced, to perhaps increase the sugar content of its peaches.

  • This is exactly what I was looking for!!!!....and it was the first on a google search. Your commentary at the end is great too.

  • @daniellecopeland I am happy to be of serivce. If there are any other topics you are interested in please let me know and I will try to make them. For other videos, search Gary Heilig on you Tube.
