  • I will always love listening to the songs of bird singer... ♥ ♥ ♥

  • he sounds like a seagul...

  • songs can be translated to fit whatever audience you have, it doesnt matter what they were originally. Roger Whittaker was good at singing in german, then again so were other artists who were not german like Nana Mouskouri & Jantje Smit. In fact Roger was born in Kenya & wasn't fluent in german till recently, he began with singing his german songs phonetically until he could sing them from memory. i came from a german background so at xmas time i sang carols in both english & german.

  • Amazing how he could get the sound of seagulls on a deserted shore down perfectly. Always loved Roger's whistling and couldn't wait to hear it again. Tried so hard to whistle like him when I was younger! lol. What a blast from the past.

  • Seagulls on the shore, waves crashing. I can just picture it. wonderful music.

  • @britecho He now resides Co.Galway, Ireland, I have talked to some people who have met him and chatted to him when he is out for one of his walks, they have said he is a lovey person with no airs or graces about him.

  • Good idea to use the "Flesh Whistle" instead of the Tin Whistle! LOL!

  • @Mattias455. What a bloody ridiculous thing to say. How many German people have you actually met in order to form that opinion? This song is about peace and love and you come out with that crap as a comment on it. You're pathetic.

  • @niwty Sorry to pull you up on saying it is a song about peace and love. Wrong, it is about Bonnie Prince Charlie escaping to Skye from Uist after being defeated at the Batlle of Culloden, before he could be killed, Not really very much about peace and love there.

  • @megadocs. By your comment then you'll be singing "Silent Night" in German this Christmas then?

  • Beautiful- in memory of my Dad, Gene. Rest in Peace x

  • We make a serious mistake assigning evil to any particular group of people – the fact is, humans are only one race, and all humans have the potential to do evil. What the Nazis did was a human condition, and not limited to any nationality.

  • Roger hits another one out of the park .

  • I believe Roger was very popular in Germany. Perhaps he felt compelled to learn some German (good for business and all that LOL)

  • @britecho Roger has lived in Germany for years. He speaks very good German and has made several albums with songs in the German language. Now he lives in Ireland as far as I know.

    Kind regards from the Netherlands.

  • uum... i dont get the whistling.. lol

  • Magnificent.

  • Emotional !!!

    Amospheric!!!

    Sung with conviction!!!

    Sublime!!!

    Like someone else said ...5*****

  • Okay this is a Scotsman ( ...and a musician ) here and let me say that it doesn't matter what the language is ...this song gives the chillz ( ...in a good way! )!!!

It doesn't have be in a Scots language ( besides there several Scots languages I can think of ), and many Scots ballads, tunes, etc are sung in English by the Scots themselves!

We're not talking about an " only blacks can sing the blues" thing here ...JUST ENJOY IT COS HE'S BLOODY GREAT AT IT!!!

    One of my favourites

  • @iceguyred123 exactly i agree, there are many folksongs in many cultures but to say that german songs should stay german a scottish should stay scottish is absurd, after all Roger was born in Nairobi, if we're gonna quote such nonsense then we may as well say Roger should only sing Kenyan songs! LOL

  • This song is one of my favourites of my almost 30 year old life. It has followed me a LONG time...

  • The whistling is in German too.....

  • This is a great song to kick back and smoke a joint to.

  • wow, i never knew it was actually him whistling :)

  • @wirklichdoof

yeah & its hard to whistle in german too!!!!

  • Wrong Wrong Wrong. Roger is a great artist. The Skye Boat song is great. It should not be translated. German songs are best in German. Scottish songs in Scottish. Sorry for the whinge

  • Oh, it´s not translated. It´s a song about peace and happyness not about a little boat;)

It sounds more like he took his own lyrics to the melody.

  • @megadocs10 i cant agree more

  • @megadocs10 Great for germans to hear and see as well as us..

  • @megadocs10 I couldn't have put it better. I also like Roger, but this song just does not do it for me.

  • It's pure magic to hear Roger perform. It makes my spine tingle to! I so wish I'd been to see him live.

  • Very talented man. Still going strong. Very enjoyable, thanks for posting.

  • what language is he singing in, it sounds like german.

  • You're right it is German

  • @Metalead666 The germans are an evil race :)

  • @Matthias455

I'm British. To say the Germans are 'an evil race' has got to be the most incorrect statement of the century! The Nazis were (are) evil - not all Germans support the Nazi ideal.

  • @britecho hey..not all germans are nazis..thats like saying all british people are nothing but limeys

  • @louiseoregon Isn't this exactly what I was saying? I believe you may be getting me confused with someone else!

  • @Metalead666 I only recognize the first and the last part. It's a birdy language :)

  • @Metalead666 I thought the first minute and twenty four was german too

  • That was just great he is a marvel i have seen him live and he is master of his art..5 ********..
