most people have a right to hate their politicians, not the country actually. And why not? The BBC ran an interesting doco on ex-pats w/businesses in Ukraine. They admitted paying money to the mafia, but their businesses boomed as a result. They drew the comparison with UK where they spent more in taxes and reg's than with the mafia!! Difference was, the UK govt couldn't guarantee increased business!! So "corruption", tho not visible, is rife in US, Aust, etc etc in this way.

They dont exactly have the biggest populations, i would say these countries are more clever at hiding corruption...Switzerland with its jewish gold tooth vaults and Dutch dodgy diamonds. I guess that less corrupt places exist at the bottom of the Atlantic and on the moon as no one lives there.
@samullel well maybe to some people it is but i live in finland too and i don't mind that it is winter now but i meant like it is good to live in here because everyone has food and a house cuz of exellent social service...
@ZAR1AC As recently as the 2011 election there was a major corruption scandal. But guess who it involved and who is the most corrupt institution in Singapore? The Government. No deception or con is too low for them to stoop to in order to hold on to power. And foreign companies have for years been victims of economic espionage by locals protected by officials (and also in China and Taiwan) whereby sensitive information is "passed" on for money. A recent case involved Apple.
@ZAR1AC I can go from the founding of Singapore to the present day and trace for you the methods used by the ruling party to stay in power and how they have abused that power repeatedly against decent ordinary citizens who just happen to disagree with them. Not to mention the books written on the subject. You cannot escape the fact that Singapore is a semi-police state and the most corrupt group are the government and ruling party. Corruption with a smile and clean hands.
@ZAR1AC "Singapore police on Wednesday arrested opposition politician Chee Soon Juan Dr. Chee Soon Juan for defying police orders by staging a May Day rally outside the presidential palace. . ." This is but one of hundreds of examples of how in Singapore the government, the police and the judiciary are all led by rulilng party appointed pro-government officials and where "laws of assembly" are designed to severely hamper opposition parties rallying support. The media also aids the ruling party.
@ZA1AC Clean streets does not equate to clean politics or business practices. I think the judges got confused, or just don't know enough. Lee Kwan Yu was a small man with a big ego who didn't tolerate dissent and he always had to be in control -the boss at the centre of attention who believed no one but he had the right and the ability to be leader. He was more a benevolent dictator than a democratic leader. The fact that his son "succeeded" him is more proof that a small elite rule. Anyway. .
@ZAR1AC My point is that if you go through every election, and especially leading up to them and look at the people jailed for so-called 'corruption', then how does Singapore get into the top 10 for least corrupt nations? Those arrests were not cleaning up corruption, they were politically motivated. The Singapore and Malaysian governments harassed political opponents since independence. Singapore is a clean, modern affluent city-state, but it is not yet a model to be followed politically.
@ZAR1AC In addition, the citizens of Singapore are easy to manipulate through a haeavily state influenced/controlled media that is biased in favour of the ruling party. Moreover, where are your investigative journalists scrutinising your leaders? The fact is Singaporeans are conformists with an irrational fear of political paties opposed to the ruling party. As long as their is stability and prosperity they are not interested in justice, true democracy, and open and accountable government.
@ZAR1AC You patriotic Singaporean who is blind to the truth of your own political system and trying to mislead people on Youtube. I have been going to Malaysia and Singapore since 1983, have been present during elections, followed the politics of both nations, and it is a FACT that Singapore is a psuedo-democracy run by elites who have repeatedly and consistently as a method of holding onto power abused their powers against political opponents with "corruption" charges and jail.
That's pretty damn close to a list of the 10 best countries in the world, too. But then Singapore had to come along and ruin it all. Damn it, Singapore. Just... Just damn it.

Thank you for posting this video, interesting enough most of the countries listed are socialists. capitalism cant work, communism is a nice idea but cant work, but socialism is in the middle and works! these countries proove it!
Canada has its curruption, mostly from the states.
@GenomeSoldier87 I don't know your ethnicity or nationality, and that is not important, but why you brought the slave trade into our discussion I do not know. If you knew your history you would know that the northern European nations in the top 10 least corrupt nations were not the designers or implementers of the slave-trade. But since you raised it, the biggest exploiters and abusers of African people are the African leaders who took control of the resources after independence.
@keveydaking I agree with you that when you look at the nations in the top 10 for education, lifestyle, healthcare, lack of corruption, etc. then Australia and Canada appear in all of them. There can be no denying that both are very desirable places to live where the term COMMON WEALTH for the COMMON GOOD truly applies.
@GenomeSoldier87 I might sound to you like a cocky elitist scumbag, but I don't believe I am because you missed my point. I know about Europe's slave trading, which is why I referred to the fair-skinned fair-minded northern Europeans. Those countries, Denmark, Norway, Sweden did not participate in it. I deliberately left out the colonial powers of Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, etc.
it seems te same countries appear on the most educated appear on most friendly and anything positive. It appears canada and australia are the places to be
It is no coincidence that so many Scandinavian nations are in the list. Home of fair skinned and fair minded Europeans. Note no southern Europeans in the list, and no African of Asian nations. Ok, ok, ok, I know there are people who are immediately going to describe my comments as "racist". That is not the intent. More of a comment about the temperament and values of the Northern Europeans. More a cultural comment than an racial one. Please note.
@rosemaya48 you sound like a cocky eletist scumbag. If it wasn't intended racial then why would you mention fair skinned. fair minded? my ass,Europe has been the main benefactor of the slave-trade and the colonization of a great part of the world. murdering and purging their way through land and harvesting recources. It's not a secret, in fact it's one of the biggest reason's why there's a political drawback in those coutries. the scars of oppression are revealed in their politics
@rosemaya48 in my opinion the best countries are democracies, but dont have the necessarily alot of power when it comes to global talks. I have noticed that the countries that tend to keep out of world affairs seem to be the best here.
There is something very wrong in having Singapore in this list. Anyone who is remotely familiar with Singapore knows that the entire political system is corrupt. My god, they do not have a true democracy but instead arrest prominent opposition leaders or discredit them with fake corruption charges prior to an election. If there are so many "corrupt opposition politicians", and only oppostion ones, then how can Singapore be classified in the top 10 least corrupt nations. BULLSHIT.
Australia is number 8 and shares it with Switzerland? HAHAHA, must be pretty bloody corrupt then. What a laugh. Oh well, I guess it's also true that usually we're only *really* corrupt when Labor is in power.
In Denmark you get free education from when you are 6 to 16 years old. If you want you can take another 3 years of high school for free. And if you would like to go to a university (college) thats free aswell, although you need good notes to get into some of the better universities. Students from the year 18 and up get economic support each month from the government so that they can focus on their education.Your right when saying poor education and corruption are connected.
@bnbalenda Yes many countries should, and alot of countries are always saying they should pump more money in education and Denmark is a perfect example!
@KageStodder I can agree with this as being a Finn. Actually based on what you wrote, Finnish education system is almost exactly the same. Basically the free comprehensive school is from 7 to 15 years. After that you can choose either 3 years of vocational school for free or 2-4 years of high school for free. At the age of 17 you can get economic support monthly also. Universities are free, and almost everybody has a chance to get into one. We don't rly rate them as you propably do
@Achaventures I know, there was just not room enough to write that it's a model used in nordic countries and that probably is the reason to why they all are on the top 10 list :-)
@KageStodder There is also one bad thing about Nordic countries and especially in Denmark and Finland. At least we have in Finland a phrase "the most important things to a Finn are job and alcohol".
If I remember right Denmark and Finland are EU's most alcohol drinking countries.
@Achaventures Yea, We Danes drink alot, but its mostly young people partying. We (students and other 16-25 years) drink so much that i think we can take credit for most of the honor compared to older people (35+)
@KageStodder Ok. I think that the situation is here just the other way around. Young people drinks also, but not so strong alcohols. Older & unemployed people usually drinks very much strong alcohol and suffers from alcoholism. In the end alcoholism results in their destiny. Sad that in welfare country alcohol causes so many deaths.
explicame entonces porque los daneses en vez de continuar ese modelo, se la pasan mandandole dinero a grupos asesinos, secuestradores, terroristas, violadores de mujeres, amputadores de campesinos como las FARC
ah yes, ofc Finland is 2nd -.-" can't say im suprised. wherever i go here i can't see any people with any kind of individual characteristics, self-knowledge or anything like that. Everybody just walks around living by the same patterns as everybody else (its really rare to see people that stand out of the crowd). And lets not forget about that almost everyone seems to be stressed out 24/7 and just give u cold looks (even when u smile and look them in the eyes)... such a boring country
Depends on what do you call corruption. Rich people stealing (or trying to) costs the world trillions. Like Icelandic banking costing the world billions. And, the amoral Swiss (amongst others) hidding the loot of the world. They say no we are just the fence. We Sweiss did'nt steel it directly. If they factor this in then the rankings would change a lot.

@KageStodder I agree with you totally. Many countries could learn these ones.

We don't rly rate them as you propably do
Norppavalley 1 month ago
@KageStodder i agree. Its pretty much the same in Australia

@KageStodder
Same thing in Finland and Sweden, propably in Norway, too.
It's called "Nordic model".
Achaventures 1 month ago
@Achaventures I know, there was just not room enough to write that it's a model used in nordic countries and that probably is the reason to why they all are on the top 10 list :-)
KageStodder 1 month ago
@KageStodder There is also one bad thing about Nordic countries and especially in Denmark and Finland. At least we have in Finland a phrase "the most important things to a Finn are job and alcohol".
If I remember right Denmark and Finland are EU's most alcohol drinking countries.
Achaventures 1 month ago
@Achaventures Yea, We Danes drink alot, but its mostly young people partying. We (students and other 16-25 years) drink so much that i think we can take credit for most of the honor compared to older people (35+)
KageStodder 1 month ago
