I figured I'd ask here since the forum isn't letting me register: For the ear training practice, is our goal to eventually recognize the chords without any previous references? The exercise instructions gave me the impression that they were to help develop a sense of absolute rather than relative pitch.
Okay, BC-117 and 118 are not free on your sight. I went there and tried to find the video instructional lesson for free. Not there. I was going to make a donation too. Your lessons are great, but please don't deceive about the free part...
@cocoprettyhoneybear ok you go to his website and on the beginners course, scroll down until you see BC 117 and BC 118. Then you click on them it shoud work. Bc 117 is just a list of songs you cna play, BC 118 is ear training
@lurewars He doesn't have videos for BC -117 and 118.But there're excercises to practice on the website.I hope you don't misunderstand it.He's a really good teacher (:
Remember 117 and 118 don't have video lessons - see the web site - but don't miss them - they are still free - one is learning songs and one is ear training!!
just subscribed, ive already been playing for about three and a half years but i havent been practicing the right way, so i should be much better but i plan on hitting guitar practice hard this year, thanks for the videos
ull find em on his website... but there are no vids for lesson bc-117 and bc-118 cause they're about songs u can play with the learned chords and about learning how to figure out chords by ear.
i can't believe i only found his videos today by accident! i've been failing at trying to teach myself the guitar for a nearly a year now and this man is a legend!!! i just finished Stage 1 with no problems (it wasn't too hard coz i'm Grade 7 on the violin which kinda helped) and i can't wait to start practicing to see how i improve!!! =D yayyyyy!!!
yes justins great I recommend this to begginers who ask from help to me just to get them off my back cause I wanted to find someone on utube that played lik me ( I'm a bit more metal indie rock and whatever else) .
How does voilin help you play guitar cause I play voilin as well?
Nice job. Make fun of the guy's eyebrows. Way to criticize someone trying to give you music lessons for free! He appears to be a very accomplished player and teacher, sharing his hard earned knowledge with you for NOTHING, and you make fun of him. Ouch!
Anyone who stumbles across this page should take note:
This guy is the real deal. His website (free!) and lessons (free!) are top notch. I guarantee if you do what he suggests you WILL improve. He's SUCH a good teacher and a wicked guy for putting all this work out there for everyone.
Seriously, this guy is the man! You won't be disappointed.
I remember when I started, something that helped me a lot was training pentatonic scales to get picking, alternate picking and then train string skipping.
String skipping was of course the hardest part, but once I had that figured out, I could move to more complex stuff such as longer arpeggios.
It's also really good to expand your 'musical vocabulary', try to play as many genres as you can so you can get a wider range of guitar skills :)
I read on your forums where people really dread on the fact of the redundancy, but I really get a lot out of the redundancy. That is part of the learning process I think, also you must think so too. haha You are really helping me. I want to reward you for your help by sending you money but I have not used my paypal yet so when I get around to finding the cash be sure the money will get to you I will send some. You make it seem so simple, but really hard work of course. haha always Thanks
Your best students must have Dombo-ears by now! :p
Thank you so much for your lessens! They are absolutely brilliant. Especially they psychological tips you give are really helpful. Most teachers ignore that extremely important aspect.
Hi justin Ghaffar Ellis here the Promotions and Marketing Manager from Pure Black Productions Jamaica. I would love to have you on board to help some of your younger player to help teach them a few things. Your number is 876 813 0815, my personal number is 876 870 6305. Give me a call and I 'll explain more then. Would love to have you on board.
Another memory trick is repeating something a total of at least 7 times throughout the day. Once you break the #7 barrier, your brain goes, "Oh, I should really keep this in my memory and make sure I remember how to do this properly"
but because my fingers are long, i have to use all of my fingers or ill hit other strings.
if your fingers are small enough, then try to bar with your 3rd finger. but some people perfer to play with all of their fingers because you can add on to the hord from there, like...its more versatile...
I think this is true, never done it but Justin is the best so I would listen to him.
It is funny I made these little posters they were the kind you just tear the number, but it said guitar lessons and it would lead people to Justins site.
Put them up in all the music stores all but one was taken down I guess they know they will sell less if they stayed up.
The one in my hometown Wendell is still there.
Bought my wife a nice guitar but Justin will teach her.
thats a really great excersize. i myself am a pretty experianced guitar player, and this even helped me clean my playing up a bit. thanks alot justin :)
that guitar sounds good as hell! the 1st guitar i had no matter how good the chords were, no matter how well the tunnin was, it sucked! what made me develop really slowly!

Question; When you play C barré chord, do you use 4 fingers or 2?
1th finger and 3rd finger?
Or 1th finger and 2th, 3rd and 4th? I need to know!
Matheus222 2 years ago
I use first and little finger, but I think third might be better because it leaves the little finger free to make some more exotic fingerings.
NearlyNormalSteve 2 years ago
i think that using 1-3 is easier/faster
but because my fingers are long, i have to use all of my fingers or ill hit other strings.
if your fingers are small enough, then try to bar with your 3rd finger. but some people perfer to play with all of their fingers because you can add on to the hord from there, like...its more versatile...
blackalbino360 2 years ago
I use my 1th and 3rd, because i find it easier.
But i'm not 100% sure if i'm holding more than those notes I should, I might bar some notes that should be the one I hold 1th finger..
Matheus222 2 years ago
The first finger should be barring strings 6 and 5 (and technically you're supposed to mute 1, but it still fits in the chord, so i play it)
The 3rd finger should be barring 4, 3 and 2
blackalbino360 2 years ago
you can play it either way
