2nd reason : Look at the game itself. It is full of violence and suitable for mature. Not same with other FTG game such as SF, KOF, Tekken, which less element of violence and suitable for under 18. So MK wanna make difference than other FTG games(mostly from Japan) & show the self-identity & uniqueness of MK; they put main villain as main character, rather than the main protagonist, Liu Kang.The conclusion, evil game is a chance for evil character to get famous, that's all. Sorry for my grammar.

@karadanianoI i don't think so. in my opinion, there are several reasons why Midway or Boon & Tobias always highlight Scorpion as main character.

1st reasons : maybe because his appearance is so cool, with the ninja costume, compared with Liu Kang's appearance (costume) that is less attracting peoples. The proof, we can see modification on Scorpion's costume in every version of MK that is more nice than before. For Liu Kang? only headband...
