I never cared for trophies, the hardest era of gaming was the 8bit days, and if we all had trophies for as hard as those games were to beat we'd be walking around decked out like 4 star generals.
I like trophies, but i dont have to have them to fun with my games. I might go after the easy trophies, but when it comes to beating a game on its hardest difficulty thats insane. HD collections are awesome, and like to see some of my favorite games restored in Hd with trophies, but some people go crazy for trophies. I mean some people buy games that they will never normally play for easy trophies.
Even tho some games don't have it on the PS3, I still prefer trophies over achievements because it shows how hardcore you are and the achievements does not.
Example say if a 360 game have about 1000G, your unified gamerscore do NOT tell you if the gamer played 5 games and got 200G on each game by the "highscore"..... where on the ps3, you got multiple difficulty/trophy levels where you can see if the gamer actually beat the most of the game by looking on the gold and platinum. (platinum = OMG!)
why does xbox has achievement for all their games and sony doesn't? well one simple answer...... sony and microsoft are two very different companies one better that the other........

@spurksterly I understand where you are coming from but i don't get why you are saying "FUCK CONSOLES"; I mean consoles allow for more gamers, some of whom simply can't afford a few thousand for a great computer, to get into video games. Also there are kids and morons on PC, I speak from personal experience.
@XxtheboredonexX because most games are designed around the console and their hardware capabilities, which is 5-6 years old. My pc in terms of gpu power roughly equals 6 ps3's. My thought it the logical thing to do would be design a game to its full potential on the pc and make it fit on the console. not the other way around, which they do for CoD and now BF3 apparently, even Rage and it was fucking beautiful. Its a waste, and consoles are to blame. Unless they find a way to update hardware :(

Got bored with trophies. I ended up with 2,004 trophies and 37 platinum before I got bored with them. Trophies are VERY VERY repetitive. It's always "Beat the game on Easy,Medium,Hard" "Collect all hidden objects" "Get X number of kills" "fully upgrade your weapon" "Max out your character" "Beat the challenge room" "Beat this boss" "beat that boss" ... It's the SAME thing over and over and over and over and over and over.
I don't see the issue here. If you can call yourself a hardcore gamer, then you're going to be able to play and enjoy a game whether or not it has trophies.

I don't care for trophies or achievements, if i had an option to disable that shit i would in a heart beat, i would rather them not have them, i play games for the games i don't care if i get 100/1000 achievements or just bronze trophies. that makes a very good point, Oblivion for example has achievements on 360 but not on ps3, and as for metal gear solid i have another interesting question: why does the game not have trophies, but i own a greatest hits version and it says it has trophies on the back of the case?
Trophies...really in my opinion are pointless. Till this day I dont give a flying fris-disc about it. Its ultimately a lame excuse for people to beat or play a game. Which is stupid. If it isnt fun, dont play it. That simple. The achievement for long time and hardcore gamers is just the enjoyment and end credit of every game. Thats all we got and honestly thats all we need. They have downloadable content now....what more can you really ask for.

Yeah bro, totally agree with you. I love getting the trophies for online accomplishments like in Bad Company 2, I have Airkill, which really isn't that hard, but a lot of people don't have it, and The Dentist which was actually pretty tough to get. Having those makes me feel like I'm a god among those that play online.
To me, I don't buy or sell games for achievements. But when I've completed the game, I love having them there to get as reply value. Any reason to carry on playing the game without just replaying the story is great. Also, I love the noise is makes when you get the trophy, so I kinda work towards listening to the noise again as well as getting another trophy. But no, it doesn't make or break a game for me.
Man...I was just looking to download Symphony of the Night the other day on PSN (even though i own the hard copy) specifically FOR the trophies. I figured it was worth the money considering how much i love the game as well as trophy hunting. Makes no sense to me that the XBLA version has achievements, but not PSN. Fuckin stupid...

Although trophies would encourage us to buy more games, the fact is that with a lot of old games, new copies are no longer produced (case in point, Folklore which I also own), so in most cases with old games, the majority of the purchases would be of pre-owned games in which 100% of the profit goes directly to the store, not the publishers or developers.
I know how frustrating this can be. I have a total of 17 PS3 games and out of them only 8 support trophies. The problem is not with Sony itself, the problem is with the developers. Unfortunately, adding trophies would not be as simple as we would like to think. You would need a programmer, graphic designer, tester and several weeks of time that could be spent doing other, more profitable things.
Sony can't force developers to do trophies because firstly the games have already been released

Out of all the non-trophy PS3 games, MGS4 is the game who needs trophy support. I personally replayed on the hardest difficulty (after watching countless walkthroughs on youtube) and saved right before the final act just to get the trophy for the Big Boss emblem, which will probably never come. I still have the saved point too, lol

I totally agree man. Rewarding you for going through a game jsut to hear a little *ding* is jsut one fo my favorite thing. I just love getting trophies, it's pretty addicting and even though msot are rewarded for easy tasks, there are many games I have that I would not have completed to 100% if it weren't for the trophies. Veteran mode on Modern Warfare 2 doesnt reward you anythign other than a few trophies, a task i would not have even tried to do unless there was soemthing to gain.
@DarthMooglenator I ran out of space. Hell, getting all 69 stars in the Spec Ops missions in MW2 was a royal bitch, but I went and did all of them JUST to get the Platinum trophy. Never would have done it if not for the trophies. And those trophies are some of the most rewarding of all, because they are truly earned :D
dude you have lots of valid points and I am totally behind you but instead of making a video about it in which Sony will probably never see, email them or put it on the blogs on their website. That would probably be a better way of them taking your advice because the chances of them seeing it are much greater. Nah, I'm not a big fan of achievements/trophies, they don't say anything about the gamer at all, considering games hand them out pretty easily for just completing a tutorial or doing something trivial. I know lots of people who just buy shovel-ware to boost their score, so someone like me who grinds through 100 hours in time consuming games like Fallout 3, or Lost Odyseey will have meager scores compared to someone who buys a $5 bargain bin sports game that gives out hundreds of points.
Trophies/achievements are one of the dumbest things ever made. every game now days a required to have trophy support. It does not affect the game in any way and are not needed one bit I loved the hell out of games from previous generations that do not have trophies at all. I wonder how many gamers look at each others trophy's list. I doubt it's very many. I usually just go straight to my game whenever my console is on. I'd rather have unlockables, rather than trophy's. Doing a hard task should give you a tangible reward (costume, extra skill, songs, whatever), rather than a tiny pic of a trophy. My main beef with trophies is that it killed the cheat device market and it also locked up saves.
@longshelton All games as of January 1st 2009 require trophy support so that is why the new Twisted Metal game will have support.
I do agree with the older titles not having trophies. It's stupid that games that are on the 360 i.e. Assassin's Creed 1 do not have trophies on the PS3 because they just need to implement them.

I can see the argument for older PS3 titles, but patching legacy PSone code is probably too much of an expense.
Also, it would be unfortunate to have completed a massive game only to have a patch for trophies released afterwards.
Personally, I don't understand why it took Sony so long to realise they wanted to 'borrow' this feature in the first place.

Part of me wonders if games shouldn't have trophies/achievements forced upon them.
PS1 classics, I might feel like the game should be untouched and preserved, but some trophies probably wouldn't hurt at all.
I am not upset at this and am not going to swear about it, then again, I only got about 5 hours of gaming in across eight weeks these last few months.

I don't see the issue here. If you can call yourself a hardcore gamer, then you're going to be able to play and enjoy a game whether or not it has trophies.

I don't care for trophies or achievements, if i had an option to disable that shit i would in a heart beat, i would rather them not have them, i play games for the games i don't care if i get 100/1000 achievements or just bronze trophies. I can understand that some people are trophy/ach whores but i don't see the appeal but then again i am not a "completioness"

Trophies...really in my opinion are pointless. Till this day I dont give a flying fris-disc about it. Its ultimately a lame excuse for people to beat or play a game. Which is stupid. If it isnt fun, dont play it. That simple. The achievement for long time and hardcore gamers is just the enjoyment and end credit of every game. Thats all we got and honestly thats all we need. They have downloadable content now....what more can you really ask for.

Yeah bro, totally agree with you. I love getting the trophies for online accomplishments like in Bad Company 2, I have Airkill, which really isn't that hard, but a lot of people don't have it, and The Dentist which was actually pretty tough to get. Having those makes me feel like I'm a god among those that play online.

To me, I don't buy or sell games for achievements. But when I've completed the game, I love having them there to get as reply value. Any reason to carry on playing the game without just replaying the story is great. Also, I love the noise is makes when you get the trophy, so I kinda work towards listening to the noise again as well as getting another trophy. But no, it doesn't make or break a game for me.

man i go out of my fucking way to do all that shit regardless of trophies. i ALWAYS beat my games 100%. if its not 100%, then to me it isnt beat yet. like for example assassins creed and getting ALL the fucking flags. and i do it all without guides/walkthroughs/cheats/advice. yeah, im that badass. trophies are just a nice reward for all my hardwork but if there werent trophies, id do it anyways. and i ONLY buy games i like. i wouldnt buy a shit game which has easy(or hard) trophies to get.

Although trophies would encourage us to buy more games, the fact is that with a lot of old games, new copies are no longer produced (case in point, Folklore which I also own), so in most cases with old games, the majority of the purchases would be of pre-owned games in which 100% of the profit goes directly to the store, not the publishers or developers.

I know how frustrating this can be. I have a total of 17 PS3 games and out of them only 8 support trophies. The problem is not with Sony itself, the problem is with the developers. Unfortunately, adding trophies would not be as simple as we would like to think. You would need a programmer, graphic designer, tester and several weeks of time that could be spent doing other, more profitable things.
Sony can't force developers to do trophies because firstly the games have already been released

Out of all the non-trophy PS3 games, MGS4 is the game who needs trophy support. I personally replayed on the hardest difficulty (after watching countless walkthroughs on youtube) and saved right before the final act just to get the trophy for the Big Boss emblem, which will probably never come. I totally agree man. Rewarding you for going through a game jsut to hear a little *ding* is jsut one fo my favorite thing. I just love getting trophies, it's pretty addicting and even though msot are rewarded for easy tasks, there are many games I have that I would not have completed to 100% if it weren't for the trophies. Veteran mode on Modern Warfare 2 doesnt reward you anythign other than a few trophies, a task i would not have even tried to do unless there was soemthing to gain.

Nah, I'm not a big fan of achievements/trophies, they don't say anything about the gamer at all, considering games hand them out pretty easily for just completing a tutorial or doing something trivial. I know lots of people who just buy shovel-ware to boost their score, so someone like me who grinds through 100 hours in time consuming games like Fallout 3, or Lost Odyseey will have meager scores compared to someone who buys a $5 bargain bin sports game that gives out hundreds of points.

I wonder how many gamers look at each others trophy's list. I doubt it's very many. I usually just go straight to my game whenever my console is on. I'd rather have unlockables, rather than trophy's. Doing a hard task should give you a tangible reward (costume, extra skill, songs, whatever), rather than a tiny pic of a trophy. My main beef with trophies is that it killed the cheat device market and it also locked up saves.

I do agree with the older titles not having trophies. It's stupid that games that are on the 360 i.e. Assassin's Creed 1 do not have trophies on the PS3 because they just need to implement them.
