@korgboy98 Not everyone is as repressed as you. In MANY cultures men kiss each other on the lips or cheeks as a sign of affection, respect, friendship, family, love or all of the above.
Other cultures, but not this one. Despite your demeaning, charged term "repressed", korgboy is right in it is still unusual, and unusual in MOST cultures, not just us horrible, repressed, unaffectionate, unfriendly, unloving Americans.
this was the most touching things Ive seen other then the lion hugging the man after years of being separated. You can really see the love he has for his sons and the respect he has for his co-workers. Very nice clip, and thanks for posting this.
@atomus Uh, I was thinking that might have been mean. Seeing that you're probably liking the idea of kissing your daddy on the mouth. So go fuck yourself, ass.
@atomus You're a complete douche bag. I mean I openly expressed how I thought something was weird and I respond to your comment and you still seem to have trouble digesting some simple statements. Rather than sending a stranger a random remark, perhaps you should follow through with you're incest fantasy and not bash others if it seems to be contrary to what you like. Fuckstick.
@walterkeathley And you're putting your level of stupidity display now because I don't even live in your country. Obviously I wouldn't have voted in anyone one of your nation's elections (nor would I care).
@frrrrrunkis Well I don't think I would brag right now about that. I'd give it another year from now when is no longer President, then that would have some clout.
@gspendlove Well sure there's the spreading of diseases, but my main point really was for the haters. They're not using logic like you, but rather just hating on Richard Dawson for breaking a social norm.
There was a negative comment about Richard kissing his son on the lips... My dad used to kiss me (female) and both my brothers on the lips. I still kiss my brothers on the lips. It's the quickest of a kiss. I've seen lots of other people in my life do the same thing. Maybe it was a generational thing, regional, who knows. My dad died 10 years ago and I would give anything if he was still here to kiss me on the lips.
@22lyric No, I don't think it's a generational thing. There's simply people out there that miscontrue things negatively. And it's sad to see what goes on in their minds. There was nothing wrong with RD kissing his sons like that especially when he hasn't seen one of them in a long time. And like you, I miss my dad who died 12 years ago. Sone will never know the real meaning of love and devotion.
by the way, how the fuck is it homo to kiss your own son on the lips? i can see if it was a stranger, then yeah, that would be gay, but its his SON. he's not trying to get it on with him, he's just showing some affection. shit. why is that so wrong? i wish more parents these days would show affection
Mannnn this Richard Dawson had so much swaaaagg!! The kissing now seems a little excessive, but it seems to be ok with them...although he kissed the young girls real creepily LMAO
I think this was back before it was wierd to show people affection. It was a different time, before women wore tight skimpy outfits and declared men are perverts for staring at them. When you could say sweetheart to a girl and she didn't call it sexual harrassment. Basically this was before political correctness.
Steve Harvey would have did six dances, shook his head for a few minutes, asked the other family to "save him" and stared at the camera for a while. That's why Harvey can't compare to Dawson.
Richard Dawson......a legend. As big as Clint Eastwood... I still watch re-runs of Match Game....Brings back many upon many memories....We all love you in the state of Maryland. Wish you all the best. with love in Jesus Christ, Richard. You are the best host, up there with Bob Barker buddy...Miss you on the Feud...
I never saw this episode when I was younger. But these moments on TV in the older days brought us closer to the tube, unlike the garbage we see today.
I find it amazing with all the strides we've made in society that people have become more uptight. It's sad that a family showing affection is getting so many negative comments.
Yes, and things have been so much better ever since.
One of the first things Reagan did was to scrap all the alternative-energy programs Carter had put in place and to get the solar panels taken off the White House. And here we are, in wars for oil.
I agree with wizziebaldwin, it's imbarrasing. OMG! someone kissed someone! but it's perfectly fine to go and murder people in other countries for no reason other than lies. It's ok for people to starve in American cities because the rich are eating. But look that person kissed another person! it's the end of the world! If you send money we will pray for you. did I get a little too carried away?
So a father kissed his son on the lips? I don't see the issue here. I think some of us got a bit of growing up to do if this bothers us. Look at it this way, would you rather see that, or see people doing harm to eachother? I 've been watching the news and I think there's enough of that going on in the world. Just enjoy this heart-felt moment between a father and son. Don't sit at your computers and pick it apart.
I'm 100% American and can only think that most people commenting on a father kissing their sun are teenagers, but in my day it was quite common to see and understand this without question. There isn't anything wrong with it and any American thinking it's wrong is obviously quite young. Basically back in the 70's (and early 80s) it was very normal in the US and your last name didn't have to be Jackson either.
Americans, ignorant and uncultured that they are because they're separated by two oceans, are the biggest PRUDES next to the people from the middle east.
In Europe its customary to kiss people, families kiss each other.
That's normal. What's not normal is the way the USA views sex and sexuality!
@wizziebaldwin Don't put all Americans in the same category a ignorant and uncultured because it makes you look bad as well. Not all Americans are the way you perceive them.
Seems like a good guy to me. I don't really know. As far as the kissing on the lips thing. Some families are that way. My friend growing up would kiss his Dad on the lips every once in a while. There was not a weird vibe about it or anything. It was just saying I love you. It took me back the first time I saw it but then I thought it was kind of neat. Boy has the world changed since the time of this show. I love how genuinely grateful he is for this acknowledgement.
@paulallan1000 probably he (Gary Dawson) was going prematurely gray, a la Anderson Cooper or " that the"werewolf" look was in style back in 1980 or maybe he thought gray on the temple's was cool, in other words, who cares?
@samuricex They did on the next show. Both families were brought back. And in this episode both families got to play fast money. Not a bad deal at all.
Omg so he kissed his sons on the lips, big deal!!! Get over it, if that's how he shows his affection, and its acceptable for him and them, then so what?? Let him. It seems as though he doesn't see them that much. This is a very touching moment
@d9y8l7a6n5 I totally agree. All the Walton boys (Walton's Mountain) called their father "Daddy" and I find no fault with that either. My father died in 1983 and I was nearly 40 years old. Until the last minute - I called him Daddy (of my own chioce).
@WingsOfDay Ummm no. In no era has it ever been ok for a man in his 40s to kiss a 12 year old girl on the lips and he isnt even related to her. Sick sick sick. Shame on the old perve.
Absolutely love this episode. My grandmother watches these old shows and told me about this episode, I dashed home to view it on the PC. Love you Richard!!!
It's a great video - nice to see real emotion! FYI, I have always kissed my children & grandbabies on the mouth. It's just a smooch. What's so disgusting?
Regarding the kissing deal, keep in mind that Dawson is English and the Brits go about their lives a little difference than us... "chips" are french fries and they usually use mayo instead of ketchup on them.
@siriusjs yeah, I'm British and we do do some things differently. Kissing on the lips is no big deal (at least, not in Scotland anyway, I'm not sure about England) especially if it's a member of your family! But I have to say that I don't know anyone who puts mayo on their chips! :P
Im guessing american familys like to kiss all their children in the mouth, its not a diss or an insult, i just never thought it was something familys did.
I always loved when the network daytime game shows would be decorated for the holidays. Really miss simpler times like this, quality entertainment without the need for millions of dollars to be at stake, or backstabbing so-called "reality" trash.

@siriusjs This is why the US had no choice but to revolt.

Im guessing american familys like to kiss all their children in the mouth, its not a diss or an insult, i just never thought it was something familys did.

@Johncarson9113 I would say that most American families do not kiss their children on the mouth, at least not mine:)

@Johncarson9113 That would be wrong. I don't know any families (here in America) that kiss their kids in their mouths. That's disgusting.

I always loved when the network daytime game shows would be decorated for the holidays. Really miss simpler times like this, quality entertainment without the need for millions of dollars to be at stake, or backstabbing so-called "reality" trash.
