I was with Laidlaw transit up until 2006 when Veolia Trasportation took over the contract with the county, then after that Laidlaw got bought out by first student here in OC.
here in new hampshire we used to go by laidlaw company but i think first student bought them out and there been a couple things happen since taking over it seem nothing bad has yet to happen for a few years.
I think what you're hearing is a very sick compressor, or a misfire. It's definitely not gasoline, it's the T444E.

@Etimthetool It couls be anything from a cracked manifold to a string of the belt material slapping stuff as it spins around

That is not a Thomas its an AMtran/Ward International with a DT466 engine and 5 speed allison tranny
