  • This will certainly come in handy when I get better at my panting skills. lol I just started painting miniatures (haven't even had a game yet) but I'm loving simply the whole creating process. I started a Black Templars chapter(that my good friend has been assisting me with) and its been a blast so far. My marines actually have Green eyes but perhaps in the furture when I get better I use the glowing effect for them. Do you water down your paints any?

  • @SteelstringDaniel Thanks dude, glad I could help. I do thin my paints, throughout the entire video my thinning ratios are displayed. I thin them quite a bit!

  • Thanks for the tutorial! Very helpful!

  • @aternoxx No problem, thanks for watching!

  • @BlueWarGaming Witch colors can i use if im trying to make red glowing eyes?

    Ultramarines blue = Scab red

    Ice Blue = Blood red

    Skull white = Blazing orange

    or something like that?

  • @2h4d0wDK There's a few ways you can go. What is the main color of the mini or it's helmet?

  • @BlueWarGaming Its red eyes on my Dark Angels :P

  • @2h4d0wDK For a dark green scheme I would say start with a dark purple and work your way up to scab red. Then mix in some orange or yellow for the hottest point. You could try white but it will probably turn pink. Maybe try going to white after yellow but just use a tiny bit.

  • @BlueWarGaming Ok ty ^^

  • Amazing! Really great video. I want to do a glowing eyes effect on my Dark Elf Sorceress, but she has very pale white skin so I'm not sure it'll work as well as the stark contracts against the Red on the Marine... But One way or another I'll use this guide. Thanks again.

  • @THEYELLOWDARTkyle Thanks dude, glad you liked it! On white skin it will be a little different. You might want to use the pale skin color as your final highlight. Make sure to thiin your paints more than in the video.

    Good luck.

  • hello do you know how to create that effect on tanks whith red orange and skull white on a blue tank any advice?

  • @alexanderjex1 Just follow the steps in the video and remember that the first few layers of glow will not show up that much. You will need to build them up in color, possibly more so on a blue tank.

You may also be able to eliminate the white. With using reds you can start with a dark reddish brown and work up the color using brighter reds as reds come in so many different color and hues.

    Good luck dude.

  • Great vid dude! That's really awesome!

  • @EclipsePainting thanks buddy!

  • what paints and transitions would you use for a green glow?

  • @saggyrectum Dark angel's green, scorpion green, yellow, yellow: white(50:50).

  • Liked and favourited. Excellent tutorial and the finished result is better than any glow-effect I've seen. You really know some cool special effects with that brush of yours.

  • @saggyrectum Thanks dude!!!

  • @Hammyangels Really you only need to watch the first 4 minutes or so. The rest is there just in case someone wants to see every brush stroke. Thanks for watching dude...

  • nice man thanks a ton this is perfect for my grey knights

  • @warhammervlogs Glad to help dude!

  • awesome :D was looking for his

  • can you also do this in red? if so how?

  • @kevraets Yep, Base a dark red, use a bright orange for the mid tone.(you may want to mix those two just a bit in between. Then you have a choice depending on how strong you want the effect to be. Your final HL color could be yellow or white(mixed with the orange).

You could also base a dark brown, mid tone red, final layers orange. This would lead to a very dark color though and may not 'glow' as much as you would want.

  • amazing

  • @kevraets Thanks!

  • Fantastic video bud

  • @inspiredprophet Thanks bro!

  • this is a great tutorial thanks for sharing. I am going to try this.

  • @dunk1978banker Your welcome and thank you too!

  • can it work well with non GW paints, and water as thinner?

  • @ImperialAWESOME Yes and yes. The Glaze medium (or any retarder) really helps with the smooth color transition on small things though. Really makes it easier.

For colors you want a dark base, bright mid tone and mix in white for the final layers.

  • @BlueWarGaming thank you so much.

  • i want to do a glowing affect coming from the inside of a tyranids carapace (coming from the inside as they overlap).. can you do a video on how to do that??

    thx!

  • @bSmoove0315 It's the same basic theory. Figure out what your hottest (brightest) point will be, usually the center. And work your colors from the outside in, darker to lighter. If I had any nids I would try to make a vid for you dude, but I don't have any... =(

  • @BlueWarGaming it's cool don't worry about it, would this work on a black base thought?

  • @bSmoove0315 Absolutely, Just make sure to thin your paints and you will need to do a few more layers most likely. You probably won't see your first few layers at all, just keep with it and it will show up.

  • @BlueWarGaming ok cool thanks alot i appreciate it!

  • @bSmoove0315 Anytime! ;)

  • Amazing work mate... Makes me really want to buy a few centerpiece models and take a rediculous amount of time on them lol... Think I might try on my new Killa Kanz coming in the mail, and maybe even the Nobz coming with them as well.

You seem to water down your paint far more then I do... I think I need to thin it more, and get over the fact that it takes more layers >.<

  • @IamDtram Whats up dude, to be completely honest I sometimes thin them more than this for certain things. It's tedious to have to do 4 layers for even coverage but if it means a smooth coat then it's worth it in the end. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to the viscosity of their paint. You just have to find what works for you. Thanks bro!

  • @BlueWarGaming it's just I keep thinking it's too thin, when it acts in almost the same way as a wash, like... Beginning to pool in areas rather then just go on flat. Some areas have the colour but some areas just look a bit wet, so what do you do in these cases if it dries that way? Like, more of whatever the colour is, in the areas with bumps etc for the paint to pool around a bit? Do you just paint the entire area again, even those areas?

  • @IamDtram If your paints are pooling like washes you may have thinned them too much. It's a fine line between the two. It also means your using too much on your brush. I used to do this too, just because your paints are thin does not mean you can lather it on. Load only a small amount of paint onto your brush then wipe some off, then apply to the mini. If it begins to pool or run clean it up, take your time. For base coats you need at most 2 parts thinner (usually).

  • @IamDtram As to your last question: Yes. It will dry in patchy areas leaving the base show through randomly. Just repaint the entire area until it all looks unified. See that piranha in the background of my page? That took 5 thin layers of paint to get full coverage.

Also; Try Vallejo Glaze medium. It's a bit thicker than water so doesn't dilute your paints but still thins them a bit. I usually mix in a drop of flow improver with it and the paint. Really great stuff dude...

  • @BlueWarGaming Ahh ok, when it's really thin I generally just lathered it on, thinking I can do that since it's so thin :\ Damn lol... With my new Killa Kanz, I'll be trying out this new method :3 Also might try the glowing eyes on one of their visors

but also, do you reccomend I wait until I can use an air compressor to spray my kans Sunburst yellow? Or should I just handpaint the yellow?

    They're Bad Moonz.

  • @IamDtram If you can wait dude an airbrush will certainly provide better results. But you can easily hand brush it on. The airbrush will make it easier and quicker is all. Good luck!

  • Nice work on that!!

  • @badgrendels Thank you.

  • Great Tutorial mate

  • @Arbornoctua Thanks dude!

  • evil looking marines! wonderful effect.

  • @huntercd Thanks bud.

  • Great job on the Vid. I always look forward to Your tutorials!

  • @cheech381 Really! Thanks cheech! That means lot dude. Expect more soon. =)

  • Excellent work and just a wonderful tutorial!

  • @Generalsplatton Thank you General sir!

  • Absolutely beautiful man! Stunning!

  • @TheDizmo Thanks Diz!

  • could this also be applied to making glowing plasma guns?

  • @Astartes40000 Yes absolutely. This can be used for anything that will emit light. Although plasma guns are much more easily done with dry brushing.

  • very interesting. Now show me how to do that in about 30 seconds worth of painting :)

  • @MoreDakka101 Base Ice Blue, HL white, wash about 10 times with blue. Won't look the same but from a distance..... maybe.

    ;)

  • this is really good much better way to paint lenses then the standard way. i have to ask though how did you paint the red on the mini at the start of the vid its really rich and deep in colour any chance of a tutorial ????

  • @Starscream982 Thanks... The red armor was done with 4 different colors. Base Reaper Brick red, zenithal HL with Reaper Blood red, extreme HL with GW Scab Red, extreme extreme HL with the brightest red you can find. I'll see what i can do to make a video for you but no promises on that one.

  • awesome tutorial ...

  • This is a superb tutorial, it will help me immensely. Thanks a ton for sharing.

  • @Wortiger Thanks dude, glad this can help so many!

  • Superb tut mate. Did you send the mini yet bud?

  • @MarneusAugustaCalgar Thanks Marneus! I have not shipped the mini yet. Sorry bud, working on something for it. I hope to send it off early next week if not this weekend. I'll see if I can express it to you.

  • @BlueWarGaming No problem mate ;)

  • Very nice work great effect . Thanks

  • @TheSeasonman1 Thank you.

  • very nice Blue! What exactly does the flow improver do that glaze medium doesn't?

  • @Angels40k I use VGM to thin all of my paints except base layers. It sort of retards the dry time and is also a bit thicker than your average thinner. It thins your paint but doesn't affect the pigment as much, I add in some flow improver just to break surface tension. With VGM you can wet blend or even erase your mistakes with a quick brushstroke.

  • thex man for this vid! I was serching for this vid for a long time! It was very helful!

  • @darmamu Your welcome dude, happy I helped.
