  • Wonderful playing by all concerned, but especially Jerry Coker.

However, only a country unaware of Cockney rhyming slang could take a trombonist called Slide Hampton seriously! (Only joking - he's great.)

  • Yep, I'm a "Cokehead..." Jerry Coker's wonderful little book "Improvising Jazz" expanded my jazz mind. Similar to Eugen Herrigel's "Zen and the art of Archery," Jerry's way of communicating struck a sforzando with me, a musically illiterate

young man with some born-into skillz, and I got the news...I'm in the process of spreading it...All Thanks to Jerry

  • Great guy, too. I took History of Jazz from him at UTK. Fascinating course. He loves Bird. :>

  • I learned more about playing and listening to jazz from this man than anyone. If there is more footage of JC, please post.

  • Besides playing a mean sax, Jerry Coker was a great teacher. I took several jazz classes under him at Tennessee.

  • Jerry is playing a whole lot of tenor and he always improvises thematically so it tells a story...and he's shoutin and cooking too....big expressive sound and lots of chops...what more would anyone want out of a tenor player?...and he's telling a story I want to hear...

  • I was at this concert! Thanks for adding!
