Gens isn't the best emulator to choose for compatibility. I'd recommend Regen or even Kega Fusion over Gens in that regard. Gens compatibility is usually overlooking bad coding.
And more "speedy" sections as you put it won't be put in for 2 reasons; First I'd rather not have this turn into anything more like Sonic 2006 than the classic it is already being worked on and Second; I can't code anything like that, even if I tried.
@SonikkuHedgehog Oh. Ive heard very positive things about Gens compared to Kega Fusion. Also, I've played Sonic 06/Next gen/360 (whatever you prefer) and I absolutely hated the 'speed up" parts. I still think scripted events could work if possible, but they don't have to be just running. They could be like any of the events where knuckles pushes a button and does something, or like the zone transitions. Oh, and do you know if it is possible to make a boss like the Marble Garden Zone boss?
can there be some more speedy segments added to your hacks like the part in the original angel island zone when sonic is getting chased by the flying battery blimp or in mushroom hill zone where sonic fights Dr. Robotnki while running? I always loved that sequence and wished there were more like that. I think sequences like those could be perfect if they were used before each boss fight (before or during the fight).
It looks pretty good, but a few critique if you don't mind.
It could be a little longer, or more difficult. Try to see if you can keep the speed going while making the player do jumps.
@1:58 More of a graphical critique... the Waterfall looks out of place in the middle of the screen there. It would look better if it looked like it was attached to something, or if it wasn't there at all. That area would look awfully boring without it though...
I don't mind constructive criticism at all. In fact, I encourage it. :) Ok, so the difficult I don't think I'll be changing. It's not supposed to be hard, as it is the first Zone of 12 (13, whatever) and as such is supposed to be relatively easy. I will agree the waterfall looks off. I'm actually undergoing a large edit of several parts of AIZ2, due to it being the firsytzone I worked on and it shows, with my lack of understanding how S3K worked back then. Thanks for the comments.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand. If you mean, will it take a while, then yes. I can't do this sort of thing overnight. I do have priorities and this rom hack isn't one of them. It's a hobby and will be completed in my spare time.
@SonikkuHedgehog Speaking of which, hows it coming along? Feeling like it's nearing a milestone towards completion? I love hearing about the big breakthroughs because they give u a good taste of whats to come and a better idea of when it'll be finished
It's being worked on slowly, but progress is being made. I don't really keep track of progress on a scale, but I do have a few levels completed and am actively working on a few others. Completion is still quite a while away, but it's 13 zones of layout to edit which is proving a long and endearing task. When I get to a milestone of sorts, I'll sort out another video. I just don't know when that'll be, unfortunately.
There is no download for this hack as it's not finished. You'll have to wait until it is like everyone else. I'll upload a new video and link with said video once it is finished.
Oh and can you maybe put the rom up on the web somewhere? I would love to contribute to it. And just another question? How do you add objects in ESEII? I can only edit them, and I'd love to be able to add more objects. Love this hack!
Ok, where do I begin. The project isn't open source, so no one apart from me is working on it. I'm not putting any version of it onto the net until it's completed. ESEII can't add new objects, you have to use the ones that are already available. This hack was indeed created with ESEII, where I made a new layout with the existing level chunks and then moved the objects around to fit the new layout. And thanks for the comments.
That's not possible either, as that would increase the size of the object file, thus increasing the whole rom and these tools rely on data being in specific places and being specific sizes. Yes, it can hinder progress, so you have to be creative.
Thanks, I was wondering if anyone would make a S3&K hack, keep up the good work, you can get alot of Credit for it, like Alvin Earthworm Jim did for SMBZ! :)
This looks so cool. I have waited so long for another Sonic 3 & K hack. But do you think you can give the bosses more health just to make it a challenge?
I'll agree with you there, it isn't helped that it's not attached to anything at the top. Seeing as this is a preview, I'll consider changing it in the future.
I like your placement of item boxes :D Semi-hidden in the brush and other places is how they should be hidden more. Nice job.

Oh, and will the ROM be compatible with Gens? A lot of hacks I download don't seem to be compatible, especially Sonic 2 Delta (GRRRR).

I'm confused as to what this is... Is it an altered Angel Island Zone?
dropbows90 1 year ago
Yes, exactly that. The level's layout and palette have been changed, but the art is still the same.

@SonikkuHedgehog WHat I mean by adding new objects is adding a new instance of an existing object.

How'd you do this hack? In assembly or did you simply edit some tiles and moved some objects?

Awesome!
Level design seems inspired by sonicCD but with way more awesomeness!
10/10!

How do you edit the level layouts?
jdpense 2 years ago
With ESEII here. On Sonic 1 and 2 hacks I much prefer to use a split disassembly and use SonED2
SonikkuHedgehog 2 years ago
Hey, that's looking snazzy so far, what editor are you using? Did you edit everything in Angel Island Act 1 before it's set on fire? I'm curious.
KnightofTime 2 years ago 2
I used ESEII for this. I haven't edited before the fire bombing yet, but I will do at one point.

I'd rom hack myself, but I can't figure out this "hack with hex editor" stuff. O.o
