I believe that's P.J. Proby at 00:35. He sure managed to get a lot of television exposure for a guy who only had one minor hit in the U.S. (some two years after this aired). At least he had a long string of hits in the U.K.
How's this for wierd? I just ran this video again (needed cheering up!) and, as it ended, what should I hear coming from the kitchen but Elvis doing 'All Shook Up' - my wife is listening to a regular weekend oldies show. I don't believe in coincidences!
The strange thing about this video is Nedra running off stage while Billy Preston sings. I wondered why there were only two Ronettes at the end until I noticed this. I know it's trivial but once the fevered mind gets going, well, you know the rest.
Am I THE ONLY ONE here that noticed how FUCKED UP Darlene Loves teeth are?! Lol. My mouth isn't a DENTIST TROPHY AWARD BUT I THANK GOD that my mouth don't look like THAT! The BEST Performers here are OBVIOUSLY The Ronettes-HANDS DOWN! THE WORST? = Sonny & Cher!! The Righteous Brothers were TRYING TOO HARD! The Most Relaxed Performer was Glen Campbell. He was a "Country Boy" and didn't try to be ANYTHING BUT... Where were The Crystals? Talk about 'Your red-headed STEPSISTERS!' They GOT SCREWD
@zodiolestes They probably just weren't on that episode. It was a regular Shindig thing to get that week's acts together like this. The funny thing about this is how it all ends up as a promo for the current Righteous Brothers single (I don't know about them trying too hard. It sounds to me like a tamed version of what's supposed to be a wild song.) What I can't figure out is why they threw an obscure-in the U.S-Cliff Richard song into the middle of the medley.
Oh what a blast...great stuff, fun to see some legends (and semi-legends) that far back in the day...and those ads at the end are a definite bonus...sorry, but I don't remember any Polaroid camera developing anything in 10 seconds (truth in advertising was far far away)...but Dippity-Doo sure dug up memories (and no, I never used it)...5***** for the whole thing and thanks...
@coxmillelementary I have listened to that song in the last month on the internet. She also put out another song that was titled, "The Naked Boy" I think. Yes her voice is similar but, Estelle was a soprano and Ronnie is a vibrato/tremelo alto.
@desert3347 Ya got that straight!! I absolutely love to hear Estelle's beautiful soprano on their version of "Sillhouettes". Boy, her voice sounds angelic. We are all at a loss because of her death!! G_d rest her precious soul.
Thanks so much for this video! How great to finally hear Estelle and Nedra of the Ronettes! They sound terrific -- why didn't that bastard Phil Specter use them in all the recordings?????
@jennifersenn i agree with you 100%. they could have done so much more. their glory was too short and estelle had so much potential. hell she could have been a model, so tall and beautiful.
@promerops Well, I don't know that I could say that I love her. I never knew her. The closest that I ever came to knowing her is when I became friends of one of her friends. I do feel strongly drawn to her. I don't know why. Had I the chance to go out with her, I would have done anything within what is condidered lawful to do so!! My impression of her is that she was a complete angel. My kind of woman. I recently found out that she never married in her life time.
ahhhh nedra "wow"..
