  • Umm also another question...how many computers/render farms do you have in your ILM headquarters? and what is the spec inside? since i believe that by looking at Pirates 3 that must have took large amount of memory and render time.

  • Like seriously, until now, I thought the Malestrom was created with real water.

    Wow astonishing effects!

  • ILM should also create proprietary hardware :D

  • I have on question do your software for fluid simulations uses Navier-Stokes Equation, FLIP,SPH or volume grids for their simulation ?

  • @MJGVFX As noted previously, we use our own proprietary fluid dynamics system which sits atop of, and heavily extends, Stanford's PhysBAM library- physbam.stanford.edu Navier-Stokes is at it's core.

  • @ILMVisualFX How does your proprietary software compare to others such as RealFlow?

  • @EtienneLF Hard to say since we do not use RealFlow.

  • is there something spinning in the middle?

  • John Knoll is a MASTER!

  • Amazing fluid simulation! So this is ILM proprietary fluid sim software, correct? and not RealFlow or PhoenixFD or Lagoa?

  • @DeonelKumara Correct. We use our own proprietary fluid dynamics system which sits atop of, and heavily extends, Stanford's PhysBAM library- physbam.stanford.edu

  • To create the maelstrom (physics), ILM used proprietary software or used a commercial software, like the RealFlow? And the render? Mental Ray?

  • i truly enjoy ILM's work........keep it up....u inspire a lot of ppl!

  • i want to ask what is the name of the program in a university that if i studied it i will be able to make this computer generated imagery like in movies as transformers and pirates

  • @mrtarek171 There is no single program that will give you everything your after however I would suggest you focus on one area, say compositing, animation or modeling & lighting and see what your school has to offer. Most likely, the principles learned in one software package can be applied to others.

  • Is ther any DVD of the making of or juste some 2-3 minutes videos on youtube? i wouldlike to get the whole video plz. Thx for answer :)

  • This is your program or software to another company?

  • @VlaDjihar Ours.

  • hey you guys used naiad!

  • Can't wait for the new ILM book comming out!

  • It's great to see the straight simulations before rendering and comp! There's some lovely details in there. How many GPUs was this split over? How long did a frame take to simulate? What kind of resolutions were you using?

  • Hi, I want to ask, have the graphics card NVIDIA Quadro any software for make ani water animation? Thanks

  • @Lilcolaperrr We use NVIDIA GPU technology across all of our shows.

  • @ILMVisualFX Thanks...but what program you use to make any animations with NVIDIA GPU? I think any Autodesk products ;D //Please answer me at Inbox Message\\

    Thanks

  • @Lilcolaperrr Our primary animation tools are Autodesk Maya and ILM's proprietary platform, Zeno.

  • @ILMVisualFX Do you use Max at all?

  • @PhotoShopChannel Yes, our digital environments group uses it for digimatte work.

  • This is really interesting thanks.

  • Are you also WETA or are they a competitor?

  • @HillierSmithStudios No. We have no association with Weta.

  • @ILMVisualFX Thank You, I have yet to achieve knowledge on the Computer Generation market, just a moment of curiosity

  • The warping of gravity etc was very ingenious.

  • Was realflow used at all or 100% proprietary? Oh and that "John Knoll" character in this video looks totally FAKE - I thought you guys were supposed to be the best :P

  • @3Daver Realflow was not used - As noted previously, we used our proprietary fluid simulation system co-developed with researchers at Stanford University.

  • @ILMVisualFX AH my mistake and apologies. Thanks for the reply..

  • amaizing work !!

  • I love clever little optimizations like that warping trick!

  • do you guys ever use after effects? (lol)

  • @acml26 Yes, we use a number of off-the-shelf solutions albeit customized to operate in our pipeline.

  • This is utterly inspiring

  • This is now my favorite channel on YouTube. Seriously awesome.

  • That is the most epic fluid simulation I have ever seen :o

  • Renderman?

  • @Track19Films Yes ; )

  • Anyone know what program was used to achieve this genius?

  • @NikieVFX We used our proprietary fluid simulation system co-developed with researchers at Stanford University.

  • @ILMVisualFX Ha so it's called What You Have And We Don't?....Wyhawd I like it! Time for me to get back to work...

  • wow, you sure know how to pick catchy titles for you videos.

  • @minieggg1 Step one - get the videos out there for you all to see... Step two change the titles to something catchy... Got it.

  • i wish these were longer :)

  • I wish that realfow could do that. may be it can but i'm not sure. It is the most detail fluid simulation i have ever seen !!

  • Incredifabulousness! The most meaningfull making-offs I've ever seen, keep them coming guys. If you make a DVD with that stuff, I'm camping at Amazon :)
