@Surrilium It's funny, they're both one of my favorite bands. Listened to both bands already when I found out Jay played on Another Day. Yup, my taste is all over the place.
Ladies and Gentlemen SPYRO GYRA hmmm well not much to be said . they are a truely higher esholon band , spanning a good thirty odd years of phenomenal music, a justification of higher education .
just LISTEN the Proof is in their Pudding lol keep pumping it out S..G
very very amazing band!!! fantastic musicians, the sax player makes me dream!!! don't tell about the bass player, wooooaaoooowwwww what a groove!!! keep it up guys!! very gud job!! and thank you for the music!!! cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay :) That's really good !!!! fine arrangements and it grooves crazy :) do you have acoustical versions of the group ? that's the only manner to feel jazz music ;)
I was gonna say, reminds me alot of chick corea and the electric band with eric marienthal as the sax front circa same festival lol...they strive hard to like them here...just search them and tell me I'm wrong lol
@theHellzapoppin That sounds like the critics a good friend of me always had on this kind of music, to smooth, to clean ( he liked the punkstyle or garage-rock more) but I never could agree with him so I don't agree with you also ;-(
@Geepereet totally agree, of course this is a different feeling than in a punk-rock-band, the grooev is amazing and the argument more complex or "clean" jazz music has no feeling is bullshit..
@Geepereet If this guy aint feeling the music....He's doing a heck of a job pretending! lol but seriously a bassist with melodies like this aint uncommon. but combined with the chops. thats what makes him stand out as a voice in this jazz group. This group is very entertaining.
@jazzzzdude noooo ! it's really good indeed, but it likes to formated music. no creativity, no feeling. just really good hapennning :D sorry, it's what i feel when i 'm listening to them ! don'be hungry, man. listen to miles, you'll understand what groov and feeling mean :D
@theHellzapoppin of course there is creativity and feeling. I do listen to Miles and I groove and feel all day everyday. I've just been listening to Bitches Brew and Star People actually.
@bassax7045 Sigh... What an utterly pointless comment. Spyro Gyra are one of my favourite bands of all time, but the guitar playing has always sucked. I was merely asking if anybody shared my opinion, it's got nothing to do with not being able to 'grasp'.
@ubernaffa ok your taste ,,fair enough ,,,i happen to also like julio a lot in several songs ,,ill sent you one you might like the guitar solo in .if not ,,its ok too man
@Nilephan666 does it depend because my friend love speed/thrash metal and like new orleans type of jazz and i love black/technical/melodic metal and i love smooth jazz. I wonder?
@xam154 i listen to thrash (bay area) old school hip hop, grindcore, nwobh, jazz, ambient, death metal, heavy metal, rnb, neo soul, funk, and smooth jazz. :)
I remember the 70's lineup with Eli Konikoff, Jeremy Wall, Geraldo Velez, Tom Shumann, still on keyboards, a bunch of studio musicians, and of course Jay Beckinstein. They set my jazz soundtrack for my teen years. Kenny G may have outsold them, but as far as body of work he couldn't touch Spyro Gyra.
@TheSaxophone Man I live for that part! He killed! I even do the face with him! He dropped it like it's hot, picked it back up then dropped it again! I had the fortune of watching these guys live- THE BEST! They are all amazing, and the live show let them each showcase what they could do.
Well, I saw Mighty Spyro at Ole Miss (the, Uuniversity of Mississippi) back in the very late 70s, and early 80s. took my now 35 year ole son, awesome and revelant to musical history. Good stuff
I heard of these guys after they had the sax player help out on a Dream Theater song. I thought Spyro Gyra was like the recording company and this guy just happened to be awesome at sax.
